Nationalist Croatian Rock Star Causing a Stir in Cleveland

Marko Perkovic, who performs under the name "Thompson", is causing a bit of a stir in Cleveland as his upcoming concert continues to draw fierce criticism from the area's Serbian residents. Local Serbian residents claim that Perkovic's songs glorify Serbian ethnic cleansing.

Perkovic is currently scheduled to perform in Cleveland on November 9th. The Serbian Unity Congress has condemned his North American tour. Milosh Milenkovich, a resident of Cleveland and former President of the SUC, said that Perkovic's music is a glorification of fascism and genocide, and vows to protest his Ohio concert.

While performing a concert this summer in his home country of Croatia, Perkovic's audience gave Nazi salutes. Perkovic was banned from performing in the Netherlands due to his flirtations with neo-Nazism.

His supporters, however, claim that his music is merely about his love for his country during a time of civil war.

Rock star Thompson: Nazi ideology powered by rock music

All the text that the Thompson defenders are posting about World War II and three finger salutes and the rest is intended to suck us into a discussion to divert from the issue: The charge that Croatian rock star THOMPSON is a clerical-fascist.

Emperor's Clothes tenc.net has charged that Thompson's top song, "Alas my people" ("E moj narode") contains the central theme of Nazi propaganda, the slander used to justify millions of murders: that supposedly a Jewish plot, inspired by Satan, since the time of Jesus, uses Communists and Masons to destroy gentiles. That is the theme of Hitler's favorite book, the infamous fabrication, "The Protocols of Zion." That is the theme of "E moj narode" ("Alas my people") written and sung by Thompson with audience participation on this tour. Here again are the first two stanzas:

[First two stanzas of Marko Perkovic Thompson's top song, ‘Alas My People’ or 'E moj narode' starts here]

Since the times of Christ,
New faces but the scene is the same,
Evil forces battle against us to destroy us

Antichrists and Masons,
Communists of all sorts
[Note: This is the Nazi/clerical-fascist fairy tale of a Jewish-Masonic-Bolshevik plot, the Jews being the antichrists - J.I.]
Spread diabolic Satanic phrases
To defeat us.
Alas, my people, alas, my people.

-- Lyrics in Serbo-Croatian at http://www.crolinks.com/cromusic/e/emojnaro.htm

[First two stanzas of Marko Perkovic Thompson's song, ‘Alas My People’ ends here]

Thompson is singing this fascism on this tour. The issue is not the Serbs - though those defending Thompson lie about Serbian history. The issue here is THOMPSON's clerical-fascism, here, in the US and Canada, this week, indoctrinating Croatians in North America. If ANY fascist singer were making such a tour, www.tenc.net - Emperor's Clothes - would expose him. But THOMPSON is worse - because Croats and the Catholic hierarchy endorse him as Croatia's cultural ambassador to the world.

Why is the Croatian community sponsoring this clerical-fascist? Why is the Catholic church hierarchy saying there is nothing wrong with concerts that include 'E Moj Marode,' an exact copy of Nazi propaganda?

In 2004 Thompson ADMITTED Singing Songs Rejoicing in Holocaust

As discussed in detail here:
http://tenc.net/croatia/times1.htm#sing
in late 2003 and early 2004, the website index.hr exposed that Thompson had publicly and for many years (including at major concerts) sung two songs *celebrating* the Holocaust - celebrating as in 'let's have a party.'

One song is about the Croatian Ustasha (clerical-fascist) Jasenovac death camp complex. The song REJOICES in this "slaughterhouse" (the song's word) run by Ustasha "butchers" (the song’s word). It is called "Jasenovac i Gradiška Stara." Its lyrics are posted in full with analysis here:
http://emperors-clothes.com/croatia/times1.htm#reb

Performing "Jasenovac" from the early 1990s until at least 2002 (maybe later) he sings: "I AM USTASHA" - i.e., a clerical fascist, responsible for the mass murder of over a million Serbs, Jews and 'Gypsies' during Holocaust. Referring to the notorious Croatian Ustasha SS 'Black Legion' - basically a Nazi death squad - he sings: "Who said - may his father f--- him - that the Black Legion is not coming back?"

The other song,"Here Comes Dawn, Here Comes Day," expresses love for the leaders of the Croatian SS 'Black Legion' mass murderers.

At first Thompson tried to evade the accusation that he had been singing these songs, saying he couldn’t remember (a ludicrous attempt at evasion - who could forget singing songs celebrating the Holocaust?) but then, after index.hr posted links to Internet audio files of him singing the songs, he did an about face and posted on his website a letter mocking index.hr for telling everybody what was already well known - of *course* he had sung these songs. He wasn't ashamed of it. He was proud of it. The Serbs and commies made him do it. And so on.

Emperor’s Clothes www.tenc.net backed up his home page at that time. The backup is posted here.
http://tenc.net/croatia/thompson/perkconfess.htm

Emperor’s Clothes also has links to Croatian discussion lists and other Croatian sources that quoted his boast/confession, some quite favorably (i.e., cheering him on) in 2004.

Here is the beginning of his "dear friends" letter, translated into English:

[Translation of beginning of Thompson's statement starts here]

"Dear friends!

"First of all, I would like to emphasize to you that my official website is the only true source of information about me and my opinion and you can find this in articles edited by the administrator.

"We are witnesses of yet another insane campaign, which, because of their election defeat, hysterical Communists and their collaborators are starting against me.

"This time they have discovered warm water; They have 'discovered' that I've been singing songs like 'Here Comes Dawn...', 'Jasenovac...' and similar.

"I am not the author of these songs, but I have been singing them, which is well known to all of us, during a certain period everywhere in Croatian squares and in halls without hiding, therefore this makes their sensational discovery ridiculous to say the least.

[Translation of beginning of Thompson's statement ends here]

The text may be read in Serbo-Croatian here:

By searching for phrases from his 'Dear Friends' letter, one can find substantial quotes from it on the Internet. For example, the following web page from a Croatian news web site published Jan. 9, 2004 quotes the part of his letter where he says his singing of these two songs is no secret:
http://tinyurl.com/yskxtb

Are these songs what the Croatian community in the US means by 'singing about love for God and country'?

Jared Isreel, somebody here is laying!

Somebody here is lying!
Your search - http://tinyurl.com/yskxtb - did not match any documents! ???

Jared, You think if you repeat a lay 100 times, it will become a truth?
That was a method from Nazi time! Joseph Gebels (Goebbels) was a master in it.

By the way, did you see those Serbian stamps from Belgrade's Anti-Masons exhibition of 01.01.1942 ?

http://www.masonicinfo.com/hatestamps.htm

Belgrade's Anti-Masonic exhibition of 1941-42
Nazi Germany occupied most of Yugoslavia by April 1941. After a Serbian uprising of July 1941, Gen. Hermann Bohme, was given emergency powers to govern the country. SS - Gruppenfuhrer Harold Turner and SS Untersturmfuhrer Fritz Stracke handled the administration of Serbia.. Milan Nedic was the "nomial" local ruler, comparable to the collaborationist regime of Quisling in Norway.

Under the Nedic regime a heavily anti-semitic "Grand Anti-Masonic Exhibition" opened in occupied Belgrade on 22nd October 1941 and ended January 19, 1942. It was funded apparently by the German occupiers and supported by Nedic to intensify hatred against the Jews, although the title of the exhibit suggested the Masons (Masonic Orders had been closed in Germany). While Nedic was a supporter of the German plan for extermination of the Jews, Serbian partisan groups often tried to save Jews from victimization. The history of this period is complex, filled with mutual accusations regarding the role of perpetrators and rescuers.

The central theme was an alleged Jewish-Communist-Masonic plot for world domination, similar to propaganda once put out by the Tsarist secret police before the Russian revolution in the well-known forgeries The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Besides the exhibits at the exhibition, an enormous amount of propaganda material was prepared: over 200 thousand various brochures, 60 thousand posters, 100 thousand flyers, 108 thousand of samples of 9 different types of envelopes, 176 propaganda movie clips, four different postage stamps etc. Organizers advertised that "This concept of exhibition will be unique not only in Serbia and the Balkans, not only in southeastern Europe and Europe, but in the world."

The images on the posters shown in the exhibition were hardly new, and had been seen before in Germany during "The Eternal Jew" exhibitions in Munich and Vienna during 1937-1939. Serbian newspapers such as Obnova (Renewal) and Nasa Borba (Our Struggle) praised this exhibit, proclaiming that Jews were the ancient enemies of the Serbian people and that Serbs should not wait for the Germans to begin the extermination of the Jews. A few months later, Serbian authorities issued postage stamps commemorating the opening of this popular exhibit. These stamps, which juxtaposed Jewish and Serbian symbols (but did not contain Nazi symbols), portrayed Judaism as the source of world evil and advocated the humiliation and violent subjugation of Jews. The 20 posters shown here give a sense of the vile flavor of the exhibition and the theme of Jewish domination. Of special interest is the material showing alleged Jewish domination of the American Press and "Finance," particularly control of The New York Times.

This type of anti-Semitic propaganda is useful for seeing how art and propaganda posters in particular can help create the "other." Jews were both capitalists and communists at the same time, and the alleged secret force that dominated all aspects of European, indeed world economic life. Norman Cohn has described this as a "warrant for genocide."

Yes, Virginia, Croatia's Thompson does REJOICE in the Holocaust

Someone calling himself Martin Krpan writes:

"Somebody here is lying! Your search - http://tinyurl.com/yskxtb - did not match any documents! ???"

The link works fine. It is a 'tiny url' taking one to a web page with a link 144 characters long; therefore, I used a tiny url. The web page is the first part of a Jan. 8, 2004 article on the newspaper website, Novi List, which quotes from Thompson's confession/boast that he sang two songs celebrating the Holocaust, rejoicing in the mass murder of Serbs, declaring "I am Ustasha!" and so on. ( Thompson had just put the confession/boast on his own home page.)

Stating that the songs in question are "Jasenovac" and "Here comes dawn" (celebrating the Croatian death camps and the Croatian SS, respectively) Novi List quotes Thompson's confession, in Serbo-Croatian, of course:

"Ja nisam autor tih pjesama, ali sam ih pjevao, što je svima nama poznato, u određenom periodu svugdje po hrvatskim trgovima i dvoranama ne skrivajući se, pa je time ovo senzacionalno otkriće u najmanju ruku smiješn."

This translates:

"I am not the author of these songs, but I have been singing them, which is well known to all of us, during a certain period everywhere in Croatian squares and in halls without hiding, therefore this makes their sensational discovery ridiculous to say the least."

Thompson's letter is backed up in full in Serbo-Croatian on the Emperor's Clothes website, which I edit, at
http://tenc.net/croatia/thompson/perkconfess.htm

I posted the link to Novi List for credibility - to show that the backup was authentic.

In his comments, Mr. Krpan again brings up the subject of stamps supposedly issued in Serbia in 1942. Serbia was conquered by Nazi Germany in 1941 and annexed by the Axis powers until 1945. They issued the stamps and everything else. Period. So the stamps business remains: irrelevant.

He is trying to divert from the issue which is: Croatia and the Catholic church are supporting Thompson who sings songs applauding the Holocaust - and who in 2004 confessed/boasted doing so, although now, three years later, he and his apologists try to lie about it.

Why are they sponsoring this Thompson who right now, on tour in the US and Canada, is singing "Alas My people," which is based on the most violent statement of anti-jewish hatred, the infamous fabrication, "The Protocols of Zion"? Thompson has set this Nazi book-of-slanders to music:

[First two stanzas of Thompson's "E Moj Narode" or "Alas My People" starts here]

Since the times of Christ,
New faces but the scene is the same,
Evil forces battle against us to destroy us

Antichrists and Masons,
Communists of all sorts

-- Full text of English translation is at
http://emperors-clothes.com/croatia/moj.htm

[First two stanzas of Thompson's "E Moj Narode" or "Alas My People" ends here]

This is the song that a Youtube video shows Thompson singing in Toronto Nov. 4, 2007. It seems to be Thompson's BIGGEST HIT. It is the title-song of not one but TWO of his seven albums. The song ends by calling for a religious war to free Croats from the supposed oppression of the masonic-antichrist-bolshevik plotters. This is 'fascist-speak' for 'the jewish people.' Meaning: a call for war against Jews, at least 30,000 of whom were murdered in Croatia by Thompson's predecessors. This song is exactly what Hitler and the Croatian Ustashe said in order to 'justify' the Holocaust.

Why has the Catholic Church sponsored Perkovic's tour, at least the part in New York City - and almost surely more?

Why did it fight to hold a Thompson concert in Sarajevo?
See: http://tenc.net/croatia/times1.htm#what

That's the issue. And they have no answer, so the only answer is: they are again pushing clerical fascism, which gave us the the murder of a million people in Greater Croatia alone, mostly Serbs, but also most Jews and Roma (meaning 'Gypsies,' - they were killed because they were 'non-white.')

Why is the Catholic church sponsoring this renewal of clerical fascism? WHY?

Jared Israel

Thank you Mr. Jarred* for your honest admission that so after all this hate mongering against Mr. Perkovic, and Croatia, your real agenda is to destroy the CHURCH.

I have news for you, CHURCH is stronger than ever. BOTH, Catholic and Orthodox Church are uniting and I believe very soon you will need to look for a DAY JOB.

* I could not address you with your last name because I hold ISRAEL very dear to my heart and can not allow it to be mixed up with your hate mongering. It is sacrilegious and insulting to all hard working and God loving Israelis. It is people like you that are creating the distances between the people, nations and we can not allow that. Is Israel your real name? Who is hiding behind that to us so holy name?

In closing may I take this opportunity to wish all Americans of goodwill, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Never forget that life is a special and very precious GIFT from God and should be lived and guarded as such. The life that knows only LOVE.

May God’s blessing follow everyone on their path to better life.

Marija

P.S.
On another note:
To know about Mr. Jarred and get the true picture you may go to Google and you will find out that he is fervent propaganda machine for Serbian political agenda. It was people like him that high jacked Croatian past and now is desperately trying to high jack present history.
What is keeping them together so close, perhaps the MONEY or the LIES from the past?
I urge everyone to look closely to different lobbies in different governments that are so strong, ARE THEY good for your government, for your people or do you have to thank to their false, purposely false interpretation that the AMERICAN people and the WORLD find themselves in at the present. We live in very dangerous times and may God help us all.

God bless,
Marija

Songs that Kill: Mr. Perkovic and Croatian Propaganda

Songs that spread hateful propaganda among the young can kill because they lead to the destruction of real human beings when hateful propaganda bears its fruit in genocide as it did during World War II in Europe and in Croatia against Jews, Christian Serbs and the Roma people. The shameful record of the civil and clerical leaders of the Ustasha regime and its supporters cannot be hidden, no matter how much history is revised and no matter how much propaganda is used to cover it up, as in the case of the songs of Marko Perkovic Thompson and his crew. Songs can kill and woe to those who use them as weapons against the innocent and as instruments of the rebirth of fascism. What the Ustasha did to the eternal shame of those who call themselves Catholic cannot be hidden because historical truth testifies to their crimes. Read the stories of the innocent individuals who suffered under their regime and you know that the God of us all, the God of heaven, weeps when human beings do such things to one another. Please, no more songs that kill--only songs that heal and build unity among people of different faiths and ways of life.

Some Truly Bizarre Anti-Semitism from the Clerical-Fascist Lobby

Marija’s post, just above, is an overabundance, like a plate with too much food. One hardly knows where to start.

For one thing, she asserts her undying love for Israel. But then in her postscript she suggests I am working for unnamed lobbies. She tells Americans to "look closely to different lobbies in different governments that are so strong, ARE THEY good for your government."

SO I work for foreign lobbies, plural, and Americans should beware of those lobbies – but which ones? China? France? Luxembourg? Monaco? Who? She doesn’t say.

When people refer with a knowing wink to unnamed, evil foreign lobbies unduly influencing America they ALWAYS (from Ralph Nader to David Duke) mean Israel which, Nader and Duke and Buchanan have ludicrously charged, controls Congress. (Which is odd, since the US forced Israel to abandon the militarily crucial Gaza Strip, but that’s another matter.)

So one of the lobbies must be Israel. Is the other one Serbia? If they are paying me, the least they could do is let me know!

So: she loves Israel and she loves Orthodox Serbs – but – Serbia and Israel are paying me to attack Catholicism and undermine America? Which, aside from the fact that I take orders from nobody, which is probably why I am poor as a church mouse, shows that Thompson supporters are so anti-Jewish that even when they know that for the sake of PR they should pretend they love love love Israel, they cannot resist adding that PS – that Israel is an evil, foreign influence on the US. (Along with, I guess Serbia.) Their hatred of Jews is so intense it is obsessive.

Second, having declared her love for Israel – which, if you check, you will see that other Thompson apologists sneeringly attack throughout this thread – having declared her love for Israel, she neglects to comment on two facts:

A) Marko Perkovic Thompson has admitted - as I proved in a post two up from this one, at http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/3386#comment-4976 - Thompson has admitted that for over a decade he sang two songs celebrating the mass murder of Jews, Serbs and Roma - a million people in all - in Croatia during the Holocaust. In those songs Thompson calls the Croatian death camps "slaughterhouses." Thompson proclaims the Croatian Ustashe are "Butchers." And Thompson declares "I am Ustasha."

B) As I also proved in that comment, two above, at http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/3386#comment-4976 , this week, on his US-Canada tour, Thompson is singing his song (he wrote it, sings it) "E moj narode," ("Alas my people") which incites violent hatred of Jews, repeating the infamous lies of that persistent fabrication, the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion," that Jews use Masons and Communists to destroy Christian society, and calling for the army of the brave, led by a religious figure, to free Christians of this curse. So: Holocaust II. We now have two videos to prove he is singing this song NOW.

And here is Marija, applying the same "Protocols of Zion" lies to me - saying Christians are uniting and Jared Israel (whose last name she loves so much because it recalls that dear place, Israel, although, of course, you know who lives there…) Jared Israel is trying to destroy this Christian unity. So: the malevolent Jew; as usual. And why? For money, of course, a frankly ludicrous idea, but one with a sub-text: after all, why else do Jews do anything?

As for being anti-Catholic: no. I am anti-Fascist. The fight between clerical-fascism and anti-fascism that raged in the 1930s and 1940s was in large measure a fight within Catholicism, and fascism took the lives of millions of Catholics, not only in Poland, which was hardest hit, but also in Spain, Italy, France – after all, most of the anti-fascists who were murdered in that whole period were Christian. It is the people, inside and outside the Catholic church, who are once again pushing Catholics towards clerical-fascism, it is those people who are anti-Catholic, just as the Nazis, who dragged the name 'Germany' through filth and wiped out the cream of German culture (Catholic, Jewish, Protestant or none of the above), were anti-German.

I do have personal reasons for studying and writing against clerical-fascism. First, the clerical-fascists erased my ancestral culture, the Yiddish-speaking Jews, along with its practitioners. Such a wonderful culture it was; what a loss to the whole world; what a terrible crime against all of humanity. Now, museums and silence.

Second, the clerical-fascists warped other cultures with their horrible ideas. Forced children into their horrific mold whether the parents liked it or not. .

Third, they are trying to do it again, and I don't want the world turned into a nightmare, again.

My greatest wish is that Catholics - especially Catholics – will denounce this clerical fascism. Many are, and I believe many more will. As for Marija, she is not defending Catholicism. She is defending clerical-fascism.

Never again!

To Jared Israel (3.)

To: Jared Israel
You say NEVER AGAIN, so do I?
Never AGAIN we should let you write our history. The miss information about actual happenings in Croatia during WW II. has done so much harm to Croatia and Croatians in the past and at the present.
Let’s observe recent history:
We were all witness to what happened during 1990-1996 to Croatia.

Serbia 3rd European army attacked Croatian unarmed civilians. Croatia was totally unprepared, no army, no arms. Croatia tried to reach an agreement with Serbia (Pres. S. Milosevic) through negotiations, but Serbia had no intentions to negotiate. They had Army, arms, police, media and international diplomatic support, which they built over 50 years through the diplomatic positions they held all over the World.
According to you: Croatia attacked Serbia? False!

Croatia endured 5. years of shelling, destruction at the hands of Serbia before it was able to recapture her own, Croatian land. Croatia never attacked Serbia. There was no war in Serbia. Serbia attacked Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina! You, I and the whole world was the witness to this destruction of Croatia and Croatian citizens. True fact!

All this was happening before our and your eyes and you are still blind. Not only that you are misled, but according to your articles you even formed a defense team and went to Haag to defend S. Milosevic. In your opinion, he is your hero and according to you, innocent of all evil that unfolded before our eyes 1990-1996.

According to you Srebrenica is a HOAX. Not only your opinion, but according to your sight, you even went so far to make a movie, to prove your false belief.
Now in view of your distortion of the true facts of present history, what would one be able to assume about the past. The past we did not witness, the past that you have promoted. What about the past, WW II. In Croatia? The evidence from that time was much harder to obtain, thus much easier to fabricate.

You are afraid of the song and are making much ado about nothing, but in process of the same to destroy a man, nation, you feel no guilt at all.
How cruel and evil.

I am not defending Fascism or Nazism, but I do find your using the same, to promote your evil agenda very bothersome. A song puts you into frenzy and the lies, name calling does nothing to you.
CROATIA WAS NEVER, IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE FASHIST.
CROATIA WAS NEVER IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE NAZIST.
CROATIA was occupied by Nazis, Fascists and Serbs, so called Yugoslav communists, but thank God, not any more and I pray to God, NEVER AGAIN!

Marija

Marija- dont falsify parts of recent history all of us remember

unarmed-unprepared Croats against JNA??!!

In January 1991, the Kontraobaveštajna služba (KOS, Yugoslav counter-intelligence service) showed a video of a secret meeting that they purported had happened some time in 1990 between the Croatian Defence Minister Martin Špegelj and two other men, in which Špegelj announced that they were at war with the army and gave instructions about arms smuggling as well as methods of dealing with the Yugoslav Army's officers stationed in Croatian cities. The Army subsequently wanted to indict Špegelj for treason and illegal importation of arms, mainly from Hungary.

try this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Špegelj_Tapes

text:

Špegelj Tapes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Špegelj Tapes were audio and video recordings of conversations of Martin Špegelj and Josip Boljkovac, which were secretly taken by the Yugoslav Army counter-intelligence service KOS, then turned into a documentary film by Zastava military film centre, and aired in January 1991 to the larger Yugoslav public.

In the conversations, Špegelj and Boljkovac—at the time of filming Croatian Ministers of Defence and of Internal Affairs respectively—discuss arming of Croatians in preparation for secession of Croatia and the impending civil war with local Serb minority, which started the Log revolution and rebelled.

The more controversial parts of the tape consider brutal ways in which to deal with families of the army personnel. The tapes were a shock in the still peaceful Yugoslavia, months away from the civil war.

The Croatian leadership, including the main "actors" themselves, initially quickly dismissed the tapes as fake, claiming that the presumably innocuous videotaped conversations were subsequently dubbed. Their authenticity, however, was later all but confirmed, and Stipe Mesić was one of the first on Croatian side that admitted that parts of the tapes are probably authentic, although some of the sentences were taken out of context.[1]

The JNA leadership wanted Špegelj tried for treason. Croatian president Franjo Tuđman dismissed Špegelj from his post due to the affair (and possibly was ready to hand him over), but the later fled into Austria, returning less than a year later when it became apparent JNA has attacked Croatia in support of the local Serbs, triggering the Croatian War of Independence.

Quotes
As for border posts, when border posts are disarmed, then they will be disarmed, all of them, as many as there are, but leave Albanians five bullets in their automatic rifles, and the rest locked up in cellars and given food and water if this goes on for a few days. As for this, if something happens, then just give instructions to all your people who you know. Kill extremists on the spot, in the street, in the compound, in barracks, anywhere. Just pistol and into the stomach. That will not be a war, it will be a civil war in which there is no mercy towards anyone, women or children, that doesn't concern us. Into homes, family homes, quite simply grenades. (Špegelj)
We are going to resort to all resources. We're even going to use weapons. Knin we're going to resolve in the same way. We are going to slaughter everyone. We have international recognition for that that we're going to slaughter them now that this whore won in Serbia. Now the Americans, on the second day when he won, offered us all assistance, and until then everyone was speculating, they would, they wouldn't, this way, that way, 1,000 combat vehicles." (Špegelj)
We are going to use all resources. We're going to use weapons as well. Serbs in Croatia will never be there again for as long as we are there and we hope until now too their supremacy is a thing of the past. Their Knin will never be Knin again. We are going to enter Knin too. Knin has to disappear as Knin. All Croats should bear this in mind and we are going to create a state created at all costs, if necessary, at the cost of shedding blood. (Boljkovac)

Anti-Semitism Raises its Head in Serbia

http://iwpr.net/?p=bcr&s=f&o=242031&apc_state=henibcr2005

Anti-Semitism Raises its Head in Serbia

Though very small in number, Serbia’s Jewish community is being increasingly targeted by an array of ultra-nationalist groups.

By Dragana Nikolic-Solomon and Ljubisa Ivanovic in Belgrade (BCR No 544, 04-Mar-05)

The slogans hint at a future settling of accounts. "Juden Raus", "Achtung Juden", "Jews out of Serbia" and "Death to Jews and Gipsies", they proclaim, the words providing a chilling echo of the Holocaust that decimated European Jewry more than half a century ago.

But few Jews actually see these slogans in Serbia today. Providing ample proof of the claim that anti-Semitism doesn't need Jews to flourish, the latest wave of anti-Semitism in Serbia has broken over a community that is a shadow of its former self.

The community is now down to a tiny 3,000 or so among Serbia’s total population of around eight million, and in the 2002 census only about 1,200 people declared themselves Jewish.

Most Serbs have never even met a Jew. Even before the Second World War, the community was small, making up 0.45 per cent of the population.

After the Holocaust and the migration of most survivors to Israel, the figure has dwindled further to 0.3 per cent.

But while few Jews remain, anti-Semitism is flourishing. Many bookstores stock copies of the infamous Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, the early 20th-century book from Russia that fraudulently claimed to reveal a Jewish conspiracy against the world's non-Jewish, and especially Christian, population.

More disturbingly, a list of prominent Serbian Jews was recently posted on the website of a neo-Nazi organisation, alongside messages posted by site visitors calling for them to be killed.

Although Stormfront is a German group, most Serbian commentators conclude that they could only have obtained this list with the help of Serbian colleagues.

The list includes prominent activists and artists, such as the head of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, Sonja Licht, actor Predrag Ejdus, singer Djordje David, marketing expert Srdjan Saper and the head of the Union of Jewish Communities, Aca Singer.

A catalogue of anti-Semitic literature in Serbian, which it says "every National Socialist and racially aware nationalist should read" is contained on the site on a page named "Serbian National Socialist Library".

Among the recommended texts is an article entitled “Jews – the Enemies of the Balkan Peoples.”

Professor Ratko Bozovic, a sociologist at Belgrade University, told IWPR, “These incidents are not isolated. They are part of a growing phenomenon.”

Other experts agree that Serbia is becoming a hotbed of extreme racist ideologies - partly a consequence of a decade of warfare under Slobodan Milosevic, when the media painted Croats, Muslims and Albanians as the demonic enemies of innocent Serbs.

At the beginning of the wars in Yugoslavia, the regime initially tried to link Serbs and Jews as joint victims of fascism during the Second World War, promoting the activities of front organisations such as the Serbian-Jewish Friendship Society.

But when this initiative failed to achieve the desired result internationally, anti-Jewish propaganda began to circulate, including claims that Serbs were falling victim to a Jewish lobby in Washington.

This propaganda reached a climax during the 1999 NATO air strikes over Kosovo, when Jews in President Bill Clinton’s administration were accused of being behind a master-plan to bomb Serbia.

Bozo Prelevic, a Belgrade lawyer, says belief in an anti-Serb conspiracy among the Jews is a legacy of the Milosevic era, when the regime media began to list Jews and Freemasons among all the other schemers plotting Serbia’s misfortunes.

Even after democratic parties took power in October 2000, Serbian society continued to blame others for its problems, Professor Bozovic says - regardless of whether these others are Roma, Jews, Albanians, Americans, the Hague tribunal or rich investors, whom many see as economic colonisers.

A casual surf of right-wing web sites in Serbia reveals an abundance of anti-Semitic literature and propaganda.

The site of the Serbian Defence League, an organisation which says its mission is to document the Zionist "genocide against the Serbs", features the claim that "research has uncovered that Jews in position of power were conspiring to break up Yugoslavia into states friendly with Israel, because it needed their votes in the UN Security Council".

The organisation claims Jews were directly responsible for NATO's bombing of Serbia in the late Nineties. "The Jews introduced resolutions [to the UN] to bomb the Serbs and make them pay for what Israel is doing to Moslems," it says.

The Serbian Defence League says Jews have "stolen the Serbian holocaust" because "the biggest genocide in World War II was committed against the Serbs in Nazi Croatia, and not against the Jews in Germany".

Aca Singer, veteran leader of the diminished Jewish community in Serbia, says the wave of hostile graffiti, as well as the threatening messages on various websites, are a cause for concern.

The community has now filed six criminal-law cases against the perpetrators but there is little hope that anything will be done.

The websites are located abroad, so neither the police nor the courts can take action and there is no law penalising the propagation of hatred on the internet.

Singer says it is significant that anti-Semitic incidents have increased since the fall of the Milosevic regime in October 2000. He believes this may be because the advent of democracy has released feelings about Jews that were previously well concealed.

"In the past five years over a hundred anti-Semitic books have been published in Serbia," said Singer.

"Some of the latest are ‘The Serbs In The Claws Of The Jew’ and ‘Jewish Ritual Murder’. The latter, published by IHTUS Christian Books, says

Jews kill Christian children in order to knead bread with their blood."

The IHTUS web site features copious amounts of anti-Semitic literature and calumnies. An article entitled "Ritual Murder among Jews" repeats all the old medieval libels against Jews as killers of innocent Christians.

"When a ritual murder is carried out for [the Jewish feast of] Purim,” it says, “then the victim is usually a grown-up Christian.

“This blood is then dried and mixed with baking powder to make triangular cakes…. It is possible to use the dried blood left over from the murder at Purim for the upcoming Passover festival."

The IHTUS publishing house is a privately-owned company, whose headquarters are in Zabalj in Vojvodina, the northern province of Serbia.

Publisher in chief Ratibor Djurdjevic was a member of a right-wing, pre-Second World War organisation named Dimitrije Ljotic. After emigrating to the US, Djurdjevic returned to Serbia in 1990.

Djurdjevic expounds his views on the website, claiming his books are important for Serbs and Christians because they disclose information about "the powerful, but unrecognised rulers of the world – Jewish bankers. They are the most important collaborators of Satan in his evil enterprise against Jesus Christ."

He adds that these unnamed Jewish bankers have brought much evil to the Serbs, having "started the war against the Serbs; provided assistance to the disintegrating forces in Yugoslavia; set Bosnia on fire; imposed a cruel embargo on Serbia and Montenegro; armed the Croats and Muslims... [and] demonised Serbs all over the world".

The Serbs are an obstacle to the forces of Jewish conquest in the Balkans, he argues. Djurdjevic's site promises future publications in a similar vein.

IWPR tried to contact Djurdjevic, using the email and telephone number listed on his website, but without success.

However, Branislav Jakovljevic, a director of IHTUS, told IWPR that their books did not accuse all Jews of crimes against Christians, merely some.

“It is a sin to accuse all Jews,” he said. “Amongst them there are ordinary people who haven't sinned against God.”

The problem begins, he added, with “the European and American media who are run by Jewish bankers and who are responsible for creating a bad image of Serbs”.

Anti-Semitism in Serbia is not limited to discussions on foreign-registered websites and slogans painted anonymously on walls, however.

It reaches young people through organisations such as Obraz, which target students and other young people with their hardline nationalist message.

Obraz, which means “Honour” is a right-wing movement preaching allegiance to the Serbian Orthodox Church and to Serbdom in general and encouraging passionate hostility to a list of what it calls enemies of the nation and the church.

Mladen Obradovic, president of Obraz, told IWPR that Obraz’s core values were love of God and good will to people, regardless of where they come from.

But their website tells a different story. A mission statement on the site contains a strongly-worded "Proclamation to the Enemies of Obraz", who are defined as "Zionists, converts to Islam, Ustashe [Croat fascists], democrats, false pacifists, perverts, criminals and drug addicts".

The above groups "shall be justly punished, because they should not be allowed to ruin the health of Serbian youth", the proclamation adds menacingly.

Obradovic was more nuanced in describing Obraz’s stance on Jews to IWPR.

“Because we are Christians, we cannot and do not want to hide the truth that many Euro-Atlantic powerful people of Jewish origin have revealed themselves as open enemies of the Serbian people,” he said.

“Differentiating between enemies and friends cannot be called anti-Semitism,” he added. According to Obradovic, the only people in danger in Serbia today were the Serbs themselves.

How far such views reach down to ordinary people is open to question.

According to a survey in 2003 by the Belgrade Centre for Studying Alternatives, a think-tank specialising in tracking public opinion, anti-Semitism was more widespread than many once thought.

Nine per cent of respondents openly declared themselves as anti-Semites, while another 31 per cent said they were undecided, the survey said.

Many people on the street seem confused in their understanding of history and ready to blame Jews for their country’s recent setbacks.

One taxi driver told IWPR that “Hitler was Jewish and the fact that they [the Nazis] killed millions of their own people is evidence of how bad they are”.

He said Jews were responsible for the destruction of Yugoslavia because “Tito was Jewish”. He added, “The Jews wanted to destroy Yugoslavia for their own economic interests”.

Another woman interviewed on the street said Jews exaggerated the dangers of anti-Semitism for their own benefit. “Jews use anti-Semitism on purpose to gain privileges for themselves,” she said.

According to Belgrade University professor of psychology Zarko Trebjesanin, anti-Semitism appeals to the many losers in Serbia’s troubled society.

“Anti-Semites are people who feel unfulfilled, so they often identify strongly with their own race,” he said. “These people suffer from inferiority complexes and seek an identity in the collective, embracing extremist theories in the process.”

Trebjesanin pointed out that many Serbs had died while trying to save the Jews from the Holocaust, “The Yad Vashem Centre in Jerusalem has cited 113 names from Serbia among the 19,141 righteous”, a reference to the people honoured for saving Jews.

While the websites continue churning out their poison, most of Serbia’s remaining Jews say they feel calm, while calling for the government to react more firmly.

Aca Singer says the current legal penalties against the dissemination of hate-filled views are too weak.

"The penal code should include a provision on anti-Semitism as a criminal offence," he said.

Serbia’s poor economic situation is one factor behind the upsurge of anti-Semitism, he added.

"Jews have been suspected by many nations throughout history. Particularly so if you take into account the deeply-rooted belief that the Jews control global financial and political developments."

How convenient for Slobodan Milosevic to obtain these so called tapes from so called secret conversation. Only CRIMINAL NEEDS an Excuse,
HONEST person needs none, because he does not sin.

How little did Slobodan Milosevic need to wage the aggression on Croatia, FALSE TAPES?

DID ANYTHING happen, that was mentioned in these so called secret conversations between Špegelj (KOS - YUGO AGENT) and Boljkovac (KOS - YUGO AGENT)?
- NO.

It is strange you would have these tapes and no tapes on VUKOVAR, ŠKABRNJA, SREBRENICA, etc.

Our beloved Jesus asked his father:

FATHER forgive them, because they do not know what they do.

You will have to pray twice as hard for forgiveness, because you do know exactly what are you doing.

so called tapes??!!
well for your info tapes are VERY real and available for viewing. and it wasn't excuse for anything- war started later. when Croatian paramilitary groups recived their weapons from Hungaria, Ukraine and from reserves of retreating Soviet Army Group West- East Germany.

for your info (but you already know this)- Croatian paramilitary troops and foreign mercenaries attacked and killed soldiers of JNA stationed in Croatia, not professionals- but recrutes serving their army time. they didnt ask to be stationed there. just regular boys from all parts of Yugoslavia, of all nationalities.

you ask did anything happen what was mentioned in those tapes-

YES, it did. Many families of JNA officers were murdered by paramilitary death squads when war began.

And for your info- the K.O.S. (counter-intelligence agency of Yugoslav Peoples Army) agent that recorded those tapes was a nephew of that criminal Špegelj.

there are lots of tapes on Vukovar, Osijek, Vinkovci, Mrkonjic Grad, Brcko etc where acts of barbarism are shown by Croatian troops.

i found these on you tube- watch if you have stomach for it and see what your compatriots did in WW1 WW2 and this last war.

Croatia- only country in the world that had concentration camps for children.

and then sing along with your Thompson and glorify those catholic priests with knifes and guns, child murderers, rapists....

People say- tyrants mouths are always full of self procaimed democracy,
i see now that goes the same for "benevolent catholic christian" like yourself.

If a person like Dinko Sakic
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinko_Šakić)
didn't fear or feel God's wrath - we, who dont have bloody hands don't even need to pray for forgiveness.

YOU DO!

You mention concentration camp for children.
I have never heard this one. I call on Jewish institutions to investigate this and I assure you if there were any, they must have been in Serbia not in Croatia.

Regarding the death of generals and so many others during the war:
It was not a war; it was Serbian Aggression on Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. You should blame the aggressor not the victim.

Regarding rapes:
According to Serbian information it was Serbian war tactics to keep the women to bear their children, so that they would never forget. The child will always remind them of the horrors they have endured. The orphanages are full. Among these women there were nuns as well.

Regarding young conscripts:
Thousands and thousands Croatian mothers are still looking for the same information. SERBIA was in control of JNA and is the only body that holds the information on the faith of these young men, which are they yet to release.

Regarding army and arms:
Prior to Serbian aggression on Croatia, as you remember, JNA took all arms from Croatian TO (Teritorijalna Obrana) took all monies for the banks in Croatia and transferred to Federal Bank in Belgrade, took all medicine and instruments from hospitals and the ones that could not be taken were demolished. Same faith befell the factories.
Unarmed and impoverished Croatia was to be easy pray for Serbian aggression.
The final blow was when the international body, influenced by your propaganda machines, put the embargo on both, unarmed Croatia and very well armed Serbia, but to no avail.

Regarding 27 nationalities living in Serbia:
Please tell me who are they? The diplomats and their families? Apart from Orthodox Church which other churches, synagogues, and mosques do you have in Serbia? In order to validate your claim people should be able to practice their religion in their own religious places.

You would do well to abstain from portraying the true victim as criminal, because this time it will not work. It perhaps worked in the past, but I pray that it will not work in the present. In this case practice should not make it perfect.
Once you look and accept the truth, you will find that your hatred will disappear.
I pray for this day.

Once again I wish everyone Happy Thanksgiving and may God help us all.

Serb Neo-Nazis celebrate Himmler's B-Day

Ps. Is it a coincidence that the Neo-Nazi group of Goran Davidovic is the same group involved in the WW2 extermination of Jews from WW2. Makes you wonder....

Arrests at Serbian neo-Nazi rally

Anti-fascist demonstrators wearing masks in Novi Sad [EPA]

Police have detained 26 neo-Nazis trying to go ahead with a banned protest after they clashed with anti-fascists holding a counter demonstration in Novi Sad, about 50km north of Belgrade.

Among those arrested was Goran Davdovic, leader of Nacionalni Stroj or National Guard, a neo-Nazi group which had called for a march for Serbian unity.

Police said Davdovic and his supporters had hurled stones at the anti-fascist protesters.

Officers said the detainees, made up of 15 Serbs and 11 Slovaks, were found to be in possession of knives, Nazi swastikas, fascist flags and propaganda material.

Nationalist protest

Nacionalni Stroj had planned the rally as a protest against the southern province of Kosovo's demands for independence from Serbia.

The march was banned after protests by Jewish groups such as the World Jewish Congress (WJC) and some Serbian organisations.

About 5,000 anti-fascists had gathered in Novi Sad to protest against what they said was the rise of fascism in Serbia.

Thousands of riot police had been deployed to prevent the two groups from clashing.

One group of anti-fascists, who had passed by a Novi Sad cafe, were attacked with stones by Davidovic's men who were dressed in black shirts and military style boots.

Several people were hospitalised with injuries from hurled stones.

Cedomnir Jovanovic, the leader of Serbia's Liberal party and who attended the anti-fascist protest, said: "It is amazing that the police let those Nazi supporters gather on the streets of Novi Sad despite the ban."

Last month, the WJC said that the planned neo-Nazi rally was a "matter of great concern" for the organisation.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre had said that the march was to mark the birthday of SS chief Heinrich Himmler and welcomed the decision to ban it.

Eight Bulgarians were arrested earlier on Sunday in Belgrade, after police said they were planning to travel to Novi Sad to join the march.

Serbia's 'systematic abuse' of the mentally ill

Shades of Serbia's WW2 record against the helpless?

read below...

--------------------------------------------------------

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/11/16/wserbia116.xml

Serbia has been accused of presiding over the systematic abuse of mentally disabled patients after a rights group investigation revealed appalling conditions and treatment in the country's institutions.

Images from half a dozen institutions have been released showing row upon row of emaciated and badly treated children and similarly disturbed adult patients.

Mental Disability Rights International, a US-based human rights organisation, said that many of the country's 17,000 patients were tied to their beds "for a lifetime" to keep them from harming themselves and that the neglect they suffered was "tantamount to torture".

The Serbian prime minister, Vojislav Kostunica, reacted by describing the report as "fabricated" and "malicious". He said he would use "all democratic means to counter such dark propaganda". But government officials later admitted that conditions needed to be improved and that the country needed international help.

"This issue must be resolved," said Dusan Petrovic, the justice minister. "The government will deal with it as soon as possible."

He said anyone found to have abused patients would be punished, but did not say what other action the government might take or if a formal inquiry would be launched.

Children, many of them suffering from Down's syndrome and cerebral palsy - conditions that can be treated outside of hospitals - were kept in "inhuman and degrading" conditions and many had simply stopped growing, the report said.

Footage showed one child at the Kulina institution in southern Serbia looking no more than four years old, lying on her back, waving her arms in repeated motions. Nurses said she was actually 11, and that she was rarely taken out of her bed. "It's simply because she cannot sit or stand," said Vojislav Cvetkovic, a doctor. "And we don't have enough staff to cover all the needs."

A teenage boy crumpled in his bed had deep wounds and scars on his face, apparently from self-inflicted injuries.

The Mental Disability Rights International report, Torment not Treatment, was the result of four years of study across nine institutions in Serbia. It was backed up by filming by the American broadcaster, NBC.

The report said many of the children tried incessantly to hurt themselves and that the commonly accepted "treatment" for self-harming in the institutions was the use of physical restraints. "The practice actually exacerbates the underlying psychological damage to the person, resulting in continued self-abuse and even more physical restraint," it said.

Some even tried to rip off their ears or gouge out their eyes, the report said.

Mr Kostunica said the government would insist on "clarifying all facts about the actual conditions" and suggested it would take legal action against the human rights group.

"Especially biased and malicious were allegations that the children were tortured rather than treated, and that those were children's camps not social institutions," the prime minister said.

Anti-Semitism as the official policy of Kingdom of Yugoslavia

Yugoslav Foreign Secretary, Anton Korosec, stated in September 1938, that "Jewish issue did not exist in Yugoslavia…. Jewish refugees from the Nazi Germany are not welcome here." Three months later, the only Jewish member of government, Rabbi Isaac Alkalai was dismissed from the government at the express request of Prime Minister Milan Stojadinovic. The peak of anti-Semitism, elevated to the level of the official policy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, were anti-Semitic acts of Cvetkovic-Macek government, enforced as of 5 October 1940. Decree on Registration of Persons of Jewish Descent introduced a numerus clausus of 0.5%, which meant that the number of Jews admitted to secondary school and universities could not be superior to their % share in total population. Under the second anti-Semitic law Jews were banned from performing certain professions (wholesale trade in foodstuffs), and under the third one they were excluded from some military branches, could not pass officers' exams and could not be promoted.

Serbian Anti-Semitism in the publishing activity

Anti-Semitism in the publishing activity

Prime movers of anti-Semitism between the two World Wars were publishers. Protocols of the Zion Elders were for the first time translated and published in 1929, in Split, under title Real Basis or Protocols of Zion Elders, signed M. Tomic. The next edition, titled, Protocols of Assembly of Zion Elders was published in 1934 in Belgrade by certain Patriciousus. The Public Prosecutor in March 1935 banned distribution of both editions. Despite the ban the second edition was published again in 1936. In 1933-40 more than 10 anti-Semitic brochures were published. On the eve of the war more than 10 anti-Semitic brochures came out and 6 as a response to anti-Semitic attacks. Ljotic's Zbor published most editions with anti-Semitic contents. Intense anti-Semitic campaign was conducted by newspapers like Obnova, Novo Vreme, Srpski narod and Nasa Borba 3, promoters of the Fascist ideology, several years before the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia. Those papers urged retributive actions against Jews 4, vilified Jews as ancient enemies of Serbs 5, and stressed that "the final settlement of the Jewish issue" could be effected without Germany. Zbor published a brochure titled Serb People in Claws of Jews, penned

... by Milorad Mojic. He advocated "a swift and energetic liquidation of Jewry unless we want to witness destruction of the Christian civilisation." 6 In 1941-45 period 51 anti-Semitic brochure were published.

Serbia's actions against the Jews in WW2

Serbia was the first area in Europe which according to proud German claims in summer 1942, was "Judenrein" (cleansed of Jews) Milan Nedic and his national salvation army10, Ljotic Movement members, gendermerie, and special police helped Germans and volksdeutchers effect that cleansing. 11 But some Jews were killed by the Chetnik Movement of Draza Mihajlovic.

First repressive measures against Jews were implemented in Serbia and Banat: arrests, looting, harassment, passing of anti-Semitic decrees, forcible contributions, desecration and demolition of cemeteries, sinagogues and other Jewish institutions. On 19 April 1941 all Jews were ordered to wear a yellow armband and to register. Several hostages had been shot down before October 1941 when mass liquidations of Jews began.12 Jews were taken to Toposka suma detention centre in Belgrade, and kept as hostages there. Imprisoned Jews (and Romany) were used to fill up quotas for the German policy of retaliation, that is, killing of 100 persons for one assassinated German soldier. By the end of 1941 most male Jews were shot down by Vermacht firing squads. In November 1941 German authorities ordered construction of a detention centre Sajmiste (Fair grounds) for remaining Jewish women and children. Over 5,000 Jews were transported to Sajmiste in December 1941 and in the following months most of them died of hunger and cold.

In the WW2 four fifths of Jews in Yugoslavia were killed. Among the survivors were those who had fled to the Italian-occupied territory, those who had joined the Partisan units, or had gone into hiding. Of 59 Jewish municipalities in the pre-war period, only 15 with small memberships resumed their activities after 1945.

10 Nedic's contribution to elimination of Jews was historically confirmed. Milan Nedic and his government of national salvation took on the task of "cleansing Serbia of Jews, renegades, and Gypsies." Nedic personally used anti-Semitic rhetoric to discredit partisans, whom he labelled "Criminal Jewish-Communist gang."

11 According to historical sources even a military part of Zbor renowned as the Serbian Voluntary Guard acted as a reliable ally of Gestapo in elimination of Jews. They searched flats, kept in custody detained communists and Jews and fought against partisans.

12 On 27 July 1941 in retaliation for attempted torching of a German vehicle by a Jewish boy, 122 persons were shot down by firing squads.

Filosemitism - Serbs create lobby group to influence Jews...

Society of the Serb-Jewish Friendship was registered on 21 November 1988, while the founding assembly was held on 4 March 1989. According to the proclamation the society was tasked with bringing together the two peoples, "frequently accused of being different."26 Soon the Society's branch office was set up in Kosovo, and later another thirty branch offices emerged Serbia-wide. Abortive attempts to set up such a society were registered even in the former Yugoslavia, during the one-party system. 27

Founding of the said Society, obviously tasked with abusing Jews for political purposes, was criticised and disapproved of by many Jewish intellectuals. Writer Filip David stated that at the founding meeting he notice "many wise heads, members of the Serbian Academy of Sciences, several prominent Serbian nationalists, and several elderly Jews, self-styled 'Serbs of Moses faith.' The idea of the founders was to help Serbia by enlisting our Jews to shore up support for the Serbian cause in the United States, through their, allegedly important connections. Early on I tried to say that the story about a conspiratorial world Jewish centre, dictating the entire world policy, was a sheer nonsense, and that the idea originated from the notorious Protocols of Zion Elders." David went on to note: "This type of association was nonsensical, for there was not need for Jews, as Serbian citizens, to set up the Society of the Serb-Jewish Friendship."28 Filip David realised that behind the project were indeed "nationalistic hot-heads" after his meeting with Ljubomir Tadic. Namely David, after the founding meeting, in his letter to Tadic, requested a meeting with him and expressed his negative opinion of the very Society.

At the first convention of the Society, in May 1990, the SJSF Secretary Klara Mandic stated that "the Society must persist in making public the names of all Serbs, victims of genocide, for their names are absent from the genocide-related books. Another ...

27 Socialist Alliance of Working People of Yugoslavia was against formation of the said Society on the following grounds: "There is no need to establish any association resting on close national or nationalities ties, in the SFRY territory." Later Jews also opposed the existence of such a society, and maintained that it was legitimate to forge closer ties only between Serbia and Israel."

28 Interview with Filip David.

... important task of the society was "sending of pertinent publications to 15,000 influential people and politicians in Europe, America and Canada."29 FJCY repeatedly protested against some communiques of the Society and distanced itself from the latter's actions.

But the leading Serbian politicians started emulating the society by propagating identical historical fate of Jews and Serbs, and preservation of friendly relations between the two peoples ( according to the Society, Serbs stood more to gain from the latter). Author Brana Crncevic said that "only friendship with Jews can save Serbhood," 30 while Enriko Josif argued that "Serbs and Jews are very old friends, and shall remain friends, for they have not betrayed the most glorious pillars of their history-Kosovo and Jerusalem." Dobrica Cosic stressed "the historical fate, which made Serbs and Jews very similar" and " Jews are European people from whom Serbs can learn most."

In 1991 Captain Dragan, later a leader of the Serb paramilitary units, wore the Star of David around his neck during a Studio B interview. At the same time members of the Serb-Jewish society, including the leading Serb nationalists, reiterated "Our fate is similar to the fate of Jews."

In 1993 the Federation of Jewish Communities set up an Anti-Semitism Monitoring Committee, and its President Aca Singer warned: "Whenever and wherever there are turmoils in the world Jews are affected by them." 31 An ever-increasing number of anti-Semitic incidents were condemned by a narrow circle of liberal public figures, and also by the regime's satellites. The authorities tried to minimise the effects of anti-Semitic incidents by not responding to protests and complaints lodged by the Jewish Municipality of Belgrade and the Jewish Federation. But those incidents increased the fear or feeling of insecurity among the Jews and non-Serbs. On the other hand they were adroitly used by the authorities as a form of "soft ethnic-cleansing."

The world was outraged by wars in the territories of former Yugoslavia, and condemned actions of Bosnian Serbs. Those condemnations became increasingly sharp and both "domestic" and foreign Jews joined in the chorus of international protests. This placed domestic Jews in a very delicate position. Hence the following statement of Jasa Almuli: "anyone may exercise his democratic right to criticise the regime in place, but such criticism should be voiced as a purely personal opinion. Jewish community would appreciate very much if some individuals stopped using its name in political showdowns, and stopped making up stories about emigration." It was a response to objections of official Belgrade that Jews were siding with "the Serb enemies", namely criticism of international Jews who condemned aggression against Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

... community. State bodies have by and large failed to react to protests and complaints of the Jewish Federation. Even when the latter sporadically reacted, 32, there was no follow-up, that is, criminal investigations were not launched.

Media-bashing

The Jewish Federation filed a lawsuit against statements made by President of the Serbian Royalist Movement, Sinisa Vucic, in a radio B92 program Intervju dana. It considered that his words ("we shall seize property of rich Jews and Communists to help alleviate the suffering of our people,") were tantamount to "instigation of religious and national hatred." Although hard evidence was submitted, namely the tape of interview, the Republican Public Prosecutor's office transferred the case to the District Public Prosecutor's Office (after repeated interventions of the Jewish Community), which, however failed to act on the case. That interview marked the start of a series of similar statements of Vucinic made to the most influential print media 33, ran under the following headlines: Serbian Hawks Become Terrorists, We Threaten UNPROFOR, We Shall Seize Property of Rich Jews and Communists to Help our Long-Suffering People. Jewish Community again reacted to Vucinic's hate speech on 27 May 1993 by inquiring about the course of investigation. After a new anti-Semitic statement of Vucinic on 13 June 1993, 34 the Federation on 24 August 1993 again inquired about the course of investigation by the District Public Prosecutor's Office. The Federation filed new charges after an anti-Semitic interview with Sinisa Vucinic was ran by magazine Svet.

In June 1994, the Prijepolje Bulletin of the Serbian Popular Renewal (a party closely affiliated with the Belgrade regime) ran a text headlined The Jewish Ball of Vampires (by-line was -Luka Sarkotic). In the text Jews were accused of crimes against the Holy Church of Christ, that is, the SOC and practising Christians, murder of God, the French Bourgeoisie Revolution, uprisings in Russia, the 1917 October Revolution, assassination of the two Russian Tzars, poisoning of Stalin, creation and implementation of the "Perestroika" project, destruction of the Soviet and Russian "empires", the Chernobil nuclear plant catastrophe, future war between Kiev and Moscow (over Krimea), collusion and alliances with Muslims and Protestants, arming of "Green Berets" in B&H, causing the plague epidemics in the world, poisoning of wells, ritual slaughter of children, creation of Jasenovac concentration camp through the Croatian state leadership, and production of AIDS virus. The Jewish Federation immediately informed of the said publication Montenegrin President Momir Bulatovic, the SOC Patriarch Pavle, the Montenegrin Mitropolite Amfilohije, Backa Episcope Irinej Bulovic, Federal Human Rights Minister, Margit Savovic and Federal Information Minister Slobodan Ignjatovic. Their response would later serve as a model for all future reactions to anti-Semitic incidents: protests were acknowledged, incidents were verbally condemned, but not a single concrete action against perpetrators was taken. The Serbian Popular Renewal then ...

32 In an indirect way, through statements of some influential, public figures

33 Borba, 13 May 1993

34 Svet, 13 June 1993

... issued a communique: "there is too much unnecessary buzz about the text. We are very surprised by reaction of the Federation of the Jewish Communities in Yugoslavia to a desperate cry of a Serbian patriot, abandoned by the whole world. We wonder how would the Jewish people react if all 48 Jewish Senators in the US Senate voted against the Serb people." But after condemnatory reactions of the liberal public strata in Serbia and Montenegro, Slavko Fustic, editor of the Bulletin, wrote an apologetic letter because of "publishing a scandalous text, with a very low- quality contents." He moreover stated: "I would like to give to you and the entire Jewish people my assurances that we don't hate the Jewish people…"Independent media, who have followed the whole case, also reacted: journalist of weekly Vreme wondered about the prosecutor's real intentions, as the latter first had told the weekly's journalist that he was still undecided about his next investigating action, and then -went on holiday. Klara Mandic, secretary of the Society of Jewish-Serb Friendship, also protested against the text run by Bulletin in Politika. Vreme commented her protest in the following way: "the problem with the Jew-bashing pamphlet is that it was designed in the circles in which Mandic has an influential role."

New edition of Ljotic's paper Nova Iskra (October 1994), titled U ime istine carried a text penned by S. Hadzic Hilendarski in which prominent domestic and foreign public figures of Jewish descent were criticised for their stands on the Bosnian war, namely: Elie Wiesel, Madeleine Albright, Daniel Schieffer, Klara Mandic, Israel Kellman, Enriko Josif, David Albahari, George Soros, Simon Viesenthal, Cheslav Milos, Warren Zimmerman, Zbiegnev Brezhinski, Bernard Henri- Levy, Allen Finkelcraut, Henri Glucksman, Loraine Fabius, Slobodanka Gruden, Jasa Almuli, Predrag Finci, Ladoslav Kadelburg. David Kalef, etc.

In July 1994 Glas Srpski 35 carried an interview with Dr. Radmilo Marojevic, professor of Philological Faculty in Belgrade. In the interview headlined, Cultural Treason is National Treason, Marojevic pointed out that: "in the Serbian culture and science very active is the fifth column of the Judeo-Masonic Project." In another interview carried by the Belgrade magazine Duga under the headline Dream about New Hazar Land, Marojevic repeated his thesis about the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy in -Russia.

Antisemitism in the Serb Orthodox Church

http://www.helsinki.org.yu/report_text93a2.html?lang=en&idteksta=358

Serb Orthodox Church

A publicist and analyst of religion Mirko DJordjevic in a host of studies indicates that anti-Semitism is not related to Orthodox religion, but rather to ethnicfiletism very influential among the SOC. Some SOC circles, notably those under the influence of Priest Nikolaj Velimirovic, joined in the anti-Semitic campaign. Velimirovic suddenly became a martyr. Mitropolite Montenegrin banned any kind of criticism or re-appraisal of work and ideas of Priest Nikolaj, although he has never been canonised.

"That legendary martyrdom is used for glossing over unpleasant pages of a repressed history-during the Nazi occupation some members of the SOC episcopate joined Nedic, and took strident anti-Semitic positions," writes DJordjevic. He adds: " Priest ...

35 Glas srpski from Republika Srpska is distributed in Serbia too.

... Nikolaj was close to Nedic and Ljotic, he did not oppose totalitarian political systems, but in fact favoured them. Therefore it is not clear how his body of work can be a treasure trove of spiritual inspiration and a veritable golden mine of spirituality and Orthodox faith, as Radovan Bigovic qualified it in his doctoral thesis (his mentor was Amfilohije Radovic.)"

Book of Priest Artemije New Golden-Mouth, published in Belgrade in 1986, is one of many books which glorified Priest Nikolaj: "he is the only Serb who can be considered an intellectual and spiritual peer of St. John the Golden-Mouth, hence his nickname-the Serbian Golden-Mouth. Mirko DJordjevic writes that "the Serbian contemporary historians failed to notice a conspicuous similarity between St. John the Golden Mouth and the Zica orator, Priest Nikolaj: namely St. John's body of work also contains 8 holimies "against Judea."

Logos 36, a magazine of students of Theological Faculty in Belgrade in 1994 ran a text Jewish Games behind the International Stage, penned by Predrag Milosevic and Boban Milenkovic. That text abounds in accusations against Jews, for example, " there is a planetary Jewish conspiracy against the Christian Orthodox faith, and notably against the Serb people and Russia," corroborated by citations from old documents of Priest Nikolaj Velimirovic related to his defence of Protocols of Zion Elders." "All modern phenomena in Europe were masterminded by Jews, who crucified Jesus, that is,: democracy, strikes, socialism, atheism, tolerance of all denominations, universal revolution, capitalism and communism. They were all inventions of Jews, that is, of their father, the Devil." 37

In July 1994 magazine Kruna carried two texts headlined How to Read Protocols of Zion Elders, and Book of Notions. The first text praised the said book, while the second, vilified Jews, as people, through criticism of Mosa Pijade, the pre-war communist, Partisan, and member of the post-war establishment.

Serbian Antisemitite Publishing Activities

http://www.helsinki.org.yu/report_text93a2.html?lang=en&idteksta=358

Publishing activity played a major role in anti-Semitic campaign. Publishing companies, Velvet and Ihtus-Hriscanske knjige published several reprints of books of Dimitrije Ljotic, Milan Nedic, Priest Nikolaj Velimirovic, and some other books dealing with alleged Masonic-Jewish conspiracies. According to sociologist Laslo Sekelj, in 1990-95 12 different editions of Protocols of Zion Elders were published, and in 1995-2001 another-eight. 38 Vladimir Maksimovic, one of publishers of Protocols of Zion Elders, part of distribution of which was impounded in 1994, in defending himself from accusations of anti-Semitism, says that "the only problem with this book is the fact that the publishing activity was taken over by the Soros Foundation, whose founder is a Jew. The Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia on 22 March 1994 condemned publication of Protocols of Zion Elders, and filed charges against Publishing House

Velvet and responsible editor Vladimir Maksimovic. Three days later the FJCY got a letter from owner and director of the publishing house Sfairos in which he decried the appeal to ban publishing and distributing the book, and termed it "an undemocratic demand." He suggested to the Federation joint publishing of the book with "an expert commentary," and future collaboration involving publishing of works dedicated to study of literary, historical and linguistic heritage of the Jewish people and its identity." In response to accusations by the Jewish Federation, newspaper issued by the Serbian Radical Party, Velika Srbija, in May 1994, ran a text, "Who burns down books, shall burn down people too," along with a commentary " let readers, Serbs, assess what is true and what is false in Protocols of Zion Elders."

(Deputy District Prosecutor Milija Milovanovic in July 2001 dropped charges against publishers of Protocol due to "the lack of evidence for further legal proceedings.")

In December 1994 Club of National Books Velvet in its catalogue listed its new anti-Semitic books: Protocols of Politart Seers or Counter-initiation (Isidora Bjelica and Nebojsa Pajkic write about 'plagues' of modern society, including Judaism and advise how to fight against them); Drama of Contemporary Mankind, Dimitrije Ljotic, -On the Semitic danger and breaking of the Serbian backbone in WW2; Jews in Serbia, Dr. Lazar Prokic; Why have Jews always been against Serbs? Who are they-an anti-Semitic guide, Dr. Lazar Prokic; Jewish Conspiracy, Marcus Elie Ravadge; Serb People in Claws of Jews, Milorad Mojic; The Jewish Issue, F.M. Dostoevsky; Under the Star of David-Judaism and Free Masonry in the Past and Present, Georgije Pavolovic; Religious and legal study of Talmud or an essay on Jewish honesty, Vasa Pelagic. The aforementioned catalogue listed also other titles: Jews in mirror of the Bible by theologian Zivojin Savic; Evil and Damned: Torturers of Contemporary Mankind, translation of Charles Weismann book.

Valjevo-based Glas crkve in 1996 published a book Selected Works of Priest Nikolaj in Ten Volumes. Book VII- Through a Prison Window includes a series of negative commentaries on life, customs and role of Jews.

On 16 December in one of premises of the Philosophical Faculty in Belgrade an anti-Semitic pamphlet titled A complete report-Jews and Jewry was found. An unidentified person distributed it to students. Teaching council of the faculty in its communique, issued in the paper Protest-Three Uprisings in 1996, qualified the pamphlet as anti-Semitic, and condemned its author and the like-minded intellectuals.

Publisher Ratibor DJurdjevic spearheaded the anti-Semitic campaign through reprints and new editions. Promotions of his books usually started with a blessing and prayer of retired priest and notorious anti-Semite Zarko Gavrilovic. Whenever he uttered the word "Jews," the audience booed. In the study Syndrome of Fear of Judeans in America DJurdjevic says that behind-the-scenes masters of the US policy intentionally nominate week presidential candidates to control them easily. According to him "such candidates are aplenty, as the US public and private morals are weak and lax. A man of integrity and strong sense of morals, namely Pat Buchanan, a Christian and renowned anti-Semite, could not succeed in unprincipled US "democracy." 39 In the book Zionism,

Communism and the "New" World Order, DJurdjevic stated: "it is very important that Christians understand that Communism-that major ill of Western societies-was spawned by Jewish institutions and circles…it was guided, channelled and evolved by official Israeli secret councils." 40

After DJurdjevic's book Lies and Shortcomings of US Democracy came out (publisher was Ihtus-Hriscanks knjiga, Beograd), the Jewish Federation on 16 October sent a protest letter, describing the nature and contents of the book, to Information Minister Ratomir Vico, Human Rights Minister, Margit Savovic, Mayor of Belgrade, Nebojsa Covic, Minister Zoran Bingulac, Minister of Religions Dragan Dragojlovic, the SOC Patriarchate, Irinej Bulovic, members of the Society of Serb-Jewish Friendship, and the media. It moreover informed the Serbian Justice Minister that charges were filed against Publishing House Ihtus and its editor Zarko Gavrilovic. The media responded differently to the Jewish Federation's protest. Daily Politika on 18 October ran a text Who Fuels Anti-Semitism penned by Rade Rankovic, and later an interview with Aca Singer President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Serbia (Anti-Semitic Incidents Should Not Be Glossed Over) about dire effects of anti-Semitism both on those who propagate it and those who close a blind eye to it. Nasa Borba on 18 October 1995 carried a text State Bodies Keep Silent, which focused on "non-reactions of the state bodies to anti-Semitic incidents."

Contrary to Politika and Nasa Borba, Politika Ekspres on 7 October 1995 ran a text Conspiracy against Christianity in which the author Visnja Vukotic quoted excerpts from Lies and Shortcomings of US Democracy, and backed all allegations and ideas contained therein. The same paper on 8 October carried a text headlined A man who knew too much ends in a lunatic asylum, full of quotations from the aforementioned book. On 23 October 1995 Vecernje Novosti carried an article by Dejan Lucic, Who are instigators of hatred? in which Lucic tried to justify positions espoused by DJurdjevic in Lies and Shortcomings of US Democracy. Politika Ekspres on 23 October 1995 ran a reaction of President of the Society of Serb-Jewish Friendship, Ljubomir Tadic, to DJurdjevic's book. Namely Tadic challenged and criticised some of positions disclosed in the book.

Holy Synod of SOC on 24 October 1995 informed the Jewish Federation that it "regrets publication of the anti-Semitic book" and "shall do its utmost to prevent publishing of similar books." Saint Sava Youth and Students' Movement followed suit by condemning activities of Ratibor DJurdjevic, one of its principal 'donors' and Zarko Gavrilovic, assessing them as "retirees who only acted as counsellors to the Movement" and stressing that "Anti-Semitism has always been contrary to the spirit of Saint Sava Movement." Despite the SOC condemnation of DJurdjevic's book and assurances that its circles did not disseminate anti-Semitism, in April 1997 the very book appeared in the ...

40 Idem, page 196

... SOC's bookstore Zadruga pravoslavnog svestenstva. In its 11 April 1997 letter to the

SOC Patriarchy the Jewish Federation expressed its concern over appearance of DJurdjevic's book in the said bookstore. In their replies the official SOC spokesman and the Patriarchy Cabinet regretted the event, and informed that the bookstore's manage was instructed to immediately stop selling the book. .

At the promotion of the book Kuril Manuscripts by author Hugo Karamata, held in the Association of Writers of Serbia on 25 January 1996, DJurdjevic stated: "Judeans are the worst world evil….they bankroll all national and international Masonic activities and pull the strings of the world conspiracy." 41

In autumn 1996 DJurdjevic's new book, On Absurdity of Anti-Semitism (publisher was again Ihtus-Hriscanska knjiga) came out. Federation of the Jewish Communities on 30 October 1996 inquired with the District Prosecutor's Office about actions taken regarding its complaint of 16 December 1995, and simultaneously informed it that the same author published a new book. In its reply of 22 November 1996 the Public Prosecutor's office quoted all criminal proceedings taken against Sinisa Vucinic, Publishing House Velvet from Belgrade, editor Vladimir Maksimovic, and publishing house Ihtus and Zarko Gavrilovic.

In its letter of 28 November 2000 to the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Jewish Federation indicated growing anti-Semitism: "Among those who spread hate of Jews excels Dr. Ratibor Rajko DJurdjevic, founder of Ihtus-Hriscanska knjiga and author of the bulk of 50 books published by that house. Since his return from emigration in 1992 DJurdjevic launched an anti-Semitic campaign. He remained undeterred in his intentions even in the face of an express condemnation of his activities by the Holy Synod of SOC, of 24 October 1995. The very name of his publishing house (Ichtus-Christian Books) suggests his links to the Orthodox Christian faith and church. Moreover all the books bear the symbol of cross on the covers."

Republic of Serbia 2005

A great deal of antisemitic graffiti was reported in 2005 on the walls of Jewish facilities, as well as on property of institutions allegedly under Jewish control. Numerous nationalist far right organizations are active in Serbia, some closely connected to the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Jewish community

The Jewish community in Serbia and Montenegro has some 3,000 members out of a total population of 7 million. Most live in Belgrade, the capital, and the rest are dispersed among Novi Sad, Zemun, Subotica and a few smaller cities. The roof organization is the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia and Montenegro (FJCSM), located in Belgrade. The Jewish Museum in Belgrade operates a database on the Holocaust and collects testimonies from survivors. The American Joint Distribution Committee supports local activities and enhancement of the cultural and economic life of the communities. Although there are no Jewish educational institutions, Hebrew is taught at the community level. At Sajmisthe, an eternally lit menorah memorializes Jews persecuted during World War II.

nationalist organizations

Almost all extreme right nationalist parties claim that they have nothing against other nations and minorities and only want to strengthen national identity. None are overtly antisemitic, probably due to the law prohibiting incitement of racial, religious or ethnic hatred and intolerance.

The Serbian Radical Party (Srpska Radikalna Stranka – SRS) is an extremely right-wing nationalist organization. Its founder and director Vojislav Sheselj is currently on trial in The Hague, accused of war crimes and atrocities against humanity. Similarly, Raznatovic Arkan, founder of the ultra-nationalist Party of Serbian Unity (Stranka Srpskog Jedinstva) and the leader of paramilitary forces during the Balkan wars, was wanted for war crimes, but was murdered in 2000. Borislav Pelevic is acting leader of the party.

The Serbian Orthodox Church (Srpska Pravoslavna Crkva − SPC), as well as groups associated with it, is known for its ambivalent attitude toward the Jews and antisemitism, and some high-ranking Church officials have been observed at nationalist events. While on the one hand, representatives of the Church have condemned antisemitic acts and stated that antisemitism is not in the nature of Serbian Orthodoxy, on the other, the Church recently proclaimed an antisemite − Archbishop Nikolaj Velimirovic − a saint.

A highly educated man who became a symbol of Serbian thought, spiritualism and Orthodoxy, Velimirovic freely expressed his antisemitic beliefs in several of his works, including those − published repeatedly − from his days in Dachau concentration camp in 1945, where the German occupiers had imprisoned him because of the perceived threat he posed due to his promotion of Serbian strength and values and unity of the Orthodox world. For example, in Through the Cell Window (Valijevo, 2003, pp. 160−2), he said:

But many Jews… stood against Christ, stepped on him and killed him... Inspired by the stinking spirit of Satan, they judged and murdered Christ. And above all they showed themselves worse enemies of God than Pilate himself …

and,

… one indeed wonders how baptized and Christianized Europeans surrendered totally to the Yids [Jeeds], so they think with a Yid’s head, accept the Yids’ programs, adopt the Yid’s fight against Christ… what is most important is how Europe became the servant of the Yids…”

Velimirovic warns Serbs to correct their thinking and deeds so that they, too, do not become “sons of Satan.”

Velimirovic is the spirit behind several nationalist organizations: Obraz (or Otcastveni Pokret Obraz − Face), a well-organized ultra-rightist group, was formed in the mid-1990s in Belgrade University’s Faculty of History. Some of its members, such as Rados Ljusic, known as the unofficial ideologist of the movement, are known for their radical views. Originally, the official Obraz website included a “Declaration for the Enemy,” which threatened Jewish or Judeo-Masonic individuals or groups. It was eventually replaced with the text:

Will Serbs exist in the near future or will we be murdered by Shiptars [derogatory term for Albanians], those who converted to Islam, or die by the hand of Judeo-Masonic NATO murderers?... or will we… drown in the sewers of the Soros Open Society [Open Society Institute − a foundation of Hungarian American Jew George Soros] and the New World Order?

Many antisemitic and racial incidents, such as graffiti writing on Jewish facilities, on buildings where Jews are employed or on institutions perceived to house liberal/open-minded people (Belgrade University’s Faculty of Philosophy, B-92 TV [an independent TV channel which opposed the Milosevic regime], Helsinki Committee for Human Rights), have been attributed to Obraz, but have not been proven. The current leader is Mladen Obradovic. The site provides links to far right organizations throughout Europe.

The nationalist, religious Saint Justin the Philosopher (Sveti Justin Filozof) movement, named after a pupil of Velimirovic, attracts conservative and Orthodox members, and is reportedly supported by SPC. Branches of the movement exist in many universities in Serbia.

Begun in Belgrade University’s Faculty of Philology in 1999, Dveri (Gates) is one of the largest movements, attracting both extreme right and Orthodox supporters. The organization opposes globalization and mondialism (an alternative form of globalization). It has close links to the SPC and Church officials sometimes lecture at their weekly meetings at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In 2001, Dveri claimed that Orthodox Serbian unity cannot be achieved with those who do not accept the Truth, such as Jews, Muslims, Protestants. Their ideology is based on conspiracy theories (such as powerful forces controlling the world) and extreme xenophobia, requiring Serbia to unite nationally and religiously. The movement has a journal and is expanding rapidly throughout Serbia.

The Serbian People’s Movement (Svetozar Miletic), located in Vojvodina, is a far right organization, although this is not apparent from its program (due to the law prohibiting incitement of racial, religious or ethnic hatred). Many of its members are professionals and academics and the movement has the support of high-ranking SPC officials. Its website has links to the organizations mentioned above, as well as to groups, such as Final Combat (see below) which share its point of view.

Final Combat (Poslednji Obracun), led by Dimitrije Najdanovic, has members from Serbia and among Diaspora Serbs, as well as from other nations. Their ideology, a slightly modified version of National Socialism, opposes interracial relations. In regard to the Jews, their manifesto reads: “World Jewry should be avoided even when they offer gifts. A skill which will teach how to prevent any contacts with them and a skill how to intercept their actions should be established…[sic]” The main difference between Final Combat and other groups is that while the latter concentrate on the spiritual-intellectual side, the former emphasizes physical preparation in order to defeat the enemy.

The Serbian Right (Srpska Desnica) apparently acts as an umbrella for all Church-related far right groups. Other nationalist organizations, with varying degrees of antisemitism, include: the Serbian Knights (Srpski Vitezovi), also based on Serbian Orthodoxy and located in Belgrade University’s medical faculty; Rasionalisti, the Serbian division of Stormfront; the extremely antisemitic US-based Serbian Defense League, connected to Stormfront; and the neo-Nazi National Line (Nacionalni Stroj).

antisemitic activity

Antisemitic activity in Serbia is usually confined to graffiti on walls and buildings, usually belonging to Jewish individuals and organizations, but sometimes on non-Jewish ones because the perpetrators assume that the Jews control everything. Such activity was reported in many Serbian cities in 2005. For example, on 26−27 January, a memorial plate dedicated to Jewish victims of World War II in Novi Knjazevac was coated with oil paint and a swastika and the words “Jews” (Zhidovi), scrawled on it. Central Belgrade and its surroundings were covered with anti-Zionist/antisemitic posters and graffiti on 22 March. Slogans on the wall of the Jewish cemetery read: “Fight the 5 October Zionist occupation of Serbia [fall of Milosevic regime]; “B-92 is Jewish Television!” “Jewish parasites get out of Serbia”; “We want freedom and not Jewish occupation! Serbia belongs to Serbs!” Similar graffiti appeared on buildings of the Rex Cultural Center (which engages in ‘cultural decontamination’ − showing films and lectures about recent Balkan wars and Serbian responsibility for them), formerly, the Jewish Oneg Shabbat Center; the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights and the Foundation for Humanity and Law. The graffiti accused the heads of the last two institutions of being “Jewish puppets.”

In May, several buildings in the city of Zrenjanin, Vojvodina, including a restaurant with a memorial plate to the synagogue that once stood there and to Jewish victims of the Holocaust were covered with fascist and antisemitic messages. In Nish, southern Serbia, the synagogue was desecrated twice – in June and July − with antisemitic slogans such as “Death to servants of Zionism” and “Arbeit macht frei.”

In February 2005 a list of Jews living in Serbia, including their home and office phone numbers and addresses appeared on the white supremacist Stormfront site, Serbian section. Although it was eventually removed, the site continues to regularly explain the damage Jewish people do to the world in general and particularly to Serbia.

An anti-fascist meeting at the University of Novi Sad was interrupted by a group of youths who resembled skinheads. Introducing themselves as ‘the National Line’, they saluted in the Nazi fashion and harassed and insulted the speakers and audience, They were apprehended and arrested a few days later. Literature found by the police on members of the National Line indicated the neo-Nazi orientation of the group.

A brochure containing the tract “Serbs in the Claws of Jews,” by Milorad Mojic, was distributed in Novi Sad, in February. The piece was originally written in 1940/1. The author claims, inter alia, that “Jews can dishonor non-Jewish girls.”

Antisemitic Publishers and Literature

The most antisemitic publisher is the Christian IHTUS, founded and owned by Ratibor Djurdjevic, who returned in the early 1990s from the US where he had immigrated. Djurdjevic receives support from Zarko Gavrilovicn a retired priest from the SPC. Djurdjevic wrote, translated and published books such as: The Elders of Zion; 3000 Years in the Service of the Satan; The Myth about the Holocaust; Judeo-Bankers and the Rise of Hitler and The Human Victim in Judaism. These books can be purchased cheaply in Belgrade; in fact, one of the bookshops specializing in such literature is located in the center, beside the Museum of Genocide. Although the local Jewish community brought legal charges against him, he was unable to appear in court, allegedly due to ill-health; nevertheless, he continues to write and publish.

Other publishers of antisemitic books include Ekopress in Zrenjanin, and Vojvodina, which printed Mein Kampf (foreword written by well-known Serbian writer Radomir Smiljanic). Dejan Lucic specializes in ‘conspiracy theories’ and blames the Jews for all the evil in the world, and especially in Serbia. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is widely available.

Rising Anti-Semitism in Serbia

YUGOSLAV JEWS TARGETED

Jewish representatives in Yugoslavia call on the authorities to stem a disturbing rise in anti-Semitism.

By Branko Bjelajac in Belgrade

Anti-Semitism is said to be on the rise in Yugoslavia, despite the fact that there are hardly any Jews left. "We are so insignificant in the social and political life of the country that it is surprising that we are under great pressure and attacks, " Aca Singer, the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Yugoslavia, declared in an interview with IWPR in Belgrade.

Singer said his community had expected more freedom following the overthrow of Slobodan Milosevic and the accompanying political changes, but have instead faced an increase in anti-Semitism.

The Jewish federation is made up of about 2,200 members, living in nine communities, including Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, Nis, Zemun and Zrenjanin. During the Second World War, most of the Jews in Serbia were deported by the Germans and fascist Serb collaborators. Singer said the most visible evidence of the anti-Jewish trend is abusive graffiti on public places and buildings. "We have that even in towns and regions where we know of no local Jews, like Apatin in Vojvodina, " he said. " We also receive frequent threatening phone calls and insults."

The community leader says there have also been anti-Semitic remarks in the media, with some of the worst culprits being Obraz - which rights campaigners say preaches racial, ethnic and and religious intolerance - and the former Serbian Orthodox priest, Zarko Gavrilovic.

Obraz denies involvement in the intimidation of Jews. "Our movement rejects all ideologies not based on the spirit of the Serbian people and the Orthodox faith, " said the group. "The Serbs are a dignified people who have no truck with religious and racial hatred."

Singer stresses that the Patriarch and the Serbian Orthodox Church Synod have condemned anti-Semitism, "but perhaps they did not do so as vigorously as they could".

In other anti-Semitic incidents, Jewish graveyards have been vandalised - in June, swastikas were daubed on tombstones in cemeteries in Zemun and Belgrade - and offensive propaganda and slogans have appeared in books, pamphlets and the internet, with some organisations and individuals publicly accusing Jews of being the enemies of the Serbian people.

"The most recent incident is the publication of the book 'The Holy Scriptures - The Jewish Mirror' where the worst language is employed to falsely accuse us, " said Singer. "We have submitted criminal charges against the author and the publisher - and we are now waiting for the state response to this hate wave. Previously, we've not had much of a response."

Despite a widespread belief here that Serbs suffered together with Jews during the World War II, the quisling government of Milan Nedic helped the Germans to expel 85 per cent of Serbia's Jewish population, around 70 thousand people.

Jews were rounded up and taken to several deportation centres on the outskirts of Belgrade, one of the biggest being Staro Sajmiste. From there, many were sent to their deaths in concentration camps in Nazi-occupied Europe. Singer said practically the whole community perished.

Yugoslav president Vojislav Kostunica visited the Belgrade synagogue last April for a special memorial service dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust. He asked for forgiveness for what the Serbian people did to the Jews in the past.

There were, of course, many instances of Serb compassion. Numerous Serbian families risked their lives protecting Jews. In recent years, about 100 of the former have received special praise from the Israeli authorities for their acts of heroism.

Milanka Saponja-Hadzic of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights attributes the rise of anti-Semitism to "anti-globalisation, anti-Americanism and anti-modernisation" promoted by the likes of extreme right-wing individuals and organisations which, she says, "will be a large problem for emerging civil society in Serbia".

Singer warns that unless the authorities do something to curb the spread of religious hatred, society is bound to suffer, "This is going to hurt the Serbian people most of all. We are few and too insignificant to make any difference. But the Serbian government should react in accordance with the constitution and the criminal law code in the country - for their own sake."

So far the only reaction to the anti-Semitic outbursts has come from the federal ministry of religion, whose influence has been much reduced since the resignation of the Yugoslav government over the extradition of Milosevic to The Hague. The ministry recently organised a meeting with representatives of the major faiths. Following the event, there was a public appeal for greater religious tolerance.

Caught with anti-Jewish hate-music, Croatia Fascists Blame Serbs

From Jared Israel, member, International Commission on Jasenovac
Editor, Emperor's Clothes www.tenc.net

The apologists for Marko Perkovic Thompson cannot answer my posted proof that Thompson is going around the world singing songs of clerical-fascism, such as "E moj narode" ("Alas my people"). This song consists of the notorious fabrication, "The Protocols of Zion," accusing Jews of working with Satan to use masons and communists to kill gentiles, set to music.

(If the theme sounds insane, it is, but it also was the justification for World War II. Very deadly insanity.)

To read the *proof* that Thompson is singing this song, perhaps his top hit, see my post "Rock star Thompson: Nazi ideology powered by rock music" at http://clevelandleader.com/node/3386#comment-4941

As regards the claim - made to divert from discussing Thompson's clerical-fascist songs, which they don't want anyone thinking about - as regards the claim that Serbia killed its Jews in World War II - in other words, the idea is that everyone killed them, so don't pick on Croatia - here is a letter to the London Times from Jasa Almuli, who I believe was then leader of the Jewish Federation in Yugoslavia:

[Letter from Yugoslav Jewish Holocaust Survivor Starts Here]

Sir, As one of the very few Serbian Jews who survived the Holocaust, I am deeply hurt by Ante Knezevic’s letter (September 24), in which he shows a lack of respect, both for the historical truth and for the Jewish victims of genocide in Serbia, by implying that they were not exclusive destroyed by the Germans. The fact that over 90 per cent of Serbian Jews were exterminated, he presents “as a result of widespread (Serbian) collaboration with the Nazis “.

The very early destruction of Jews in Serbia - in large numbers - was not the result of Serbian collaboration with the Germans, but to a large extent the result of the Serbian resistance to them. The Germans invaded Yugoslavia in April 1941., dismembered the country, created a puppet state in Croatia with the help of the local fascist Ustasa and put occupied Serbia under direct German military rule. In July of 1941., the Serbs followed Tito’s call for partisan war and, after inflicting many losses on the German Army the Serbs suffered cruel reprisals. For each German soldier killed, 100 Serbian hostages were executed by the Wehrmacht, and for each wounded soldier fifty hostages were taken. The Germans rounded up all Jewish civilian males between the ages of sixteen and seventy and executed them, along with gypsies, captured Serbian patriots and imprisoned leftists. After the execution of all Jewish males, the Germans put their widows and orphans in a concentration camp near Belgrade and gassed them all in a mobile gas van. The concentration camp was run exclusively by the Germans, whose SS did the killing without any participation by the Serbs.

In the Study XV published by the Israell Memorial Museum, Yad Vashem, in 1983., Christopher R. Browning summarised his findings in an article, ”The Final Solution in Serbia”:

"In Serbia the executioners were primarily German army personnel, not SS units… The firing squads operated under the pretext of carrying out reprisals for casualties inflicted by partisans, not with the avowed aim of exterminating the entire Jewish population. Uncertainty over the ultimate goal and scope of Nazi Jewish policy was not prolonged, however. The survivors of the fall massacre, mostly women and children, were placed in a concentration camp at Semlin just across the Sava River from Belgrade and, regardles of age and sex, were murdered in a gas van in the spring of 1942."

The American Jewish historian Raul Hilberg, in his book The Destruction of the European Jews (revised edition, 1985.), states:
”The Serbs abhorred the foreign yoke under practically all forms and for that treason occupied Serbia was the theatre of an uninterrupted partisan war. As in Russia, the German army was punishing the manifestations of rebellion by executing the hostages , above all the Jewish hostages”.

As for the Jewish women and children in Serbia, Hilberg writes:
"In December… the military units undertook the transfer of the families of the executed hostages to Semlin where the commander of the Security police and of the SD , Schafer , was awaiting his victims…In the beginning of March 1942., a special vehicle arrived from Berlin, a gas van. Every day except Sundays and holidays the women and children were put into the van…

The operation ended on 10. May. Satisfied, Dr Shafer reported that the problem of Jews in Serbia did not exist any more."

The role of the Germans in the destruction of the Jews in Serbia is also described in detail in the so - called “Black Book”, by the Federation of Jewish Communities in Yugoslavia (1957) and in Jasa Roman’s “Jews of Yugoslavia: Victims of genocide and participants in the liberation war” (1980), neither of which points the finger at the Serbs as the culprits.

To Jared Israel (4.) Translation of the song

Hey, my people

Ever since the time of Christ
New faces, stage the same
Devil’s forces striving
That we not exist

Antichrists and freemasons
Communists these, those
Spreading devil’s cants
In order to defeat us
Hey, my people, hey, my people

And we deaf, mute, blind
Each in one’s own darkness dreading
People chosen by God
Suffocated by dissension

From our glorious history
And from this one not so ancient
We all have everything we value
Earned together
Hey, my people, hey, my people

Let’s take into our hands destiny and fortune
Neither I can go on like this, nor do I want to
Let’s take into our hands destiny and fortune
Hey, my people, hey, my people

Generations of heroes
And the victor’s strong army
Fears and dying still continue
For Homeland

From these heavenly heights
Give us, God, again a son
To lead us out of misery
All unto the victory … hey, my people

Let’s take into our hands destiny and fortune
Neither I can go on like this, nor do I want to
Let’s take into our hands destiny and fortune
Hey, my people, hey, my people ...

Serbia's war with history
By Christopher Bennett, Greek Helsinki Monitor, [21 April 1999]
The propaganda battle stretches well into the past. Official Serbia boasts of its defiant and heroic history. The only problem is the facts.

As Serbia challenges the might of the West, many Serbs boast that their history proves that despite the imbalance in firepower, they will never be vanquished. The trouble is that the version of the past recounted in Belgrade does not stand up to scrutiny. Serbia is not only fighting NATO, it is also at war with history.

The passion and apparent expertise with which so many Serbs talk so often and at such length about their country and its heroic past conceal a depressing lack of balance and understanding. Opinions are almost invariably based on prejudice and conditioning. From the infamous 1389 battle of Kosovo to the events of this century, history and myth have been intertwined into a quasi-religious national creed. Anyone who questions the articles of faith is branded a heretic.

According to the Kosovo legend, the Serbian leader, Prince Lazar, was offered on the eve of battle a choice between a kingdom on earth or in heaven. Vowing that “It is better to die in battle than to live in shame,” he chose the other world, and was duly killed the following day in what is commemorated as a glorious defeat ending the medieval Serbian empire and ushering in nearly five centuries of darkness under alien, Ottoman rule.

And indeed, a battle did take place on St. Vitus's day in 1389 in Kosovo Polje, the field of the blackbird, in which both Prince Lazar and Sultan Murat, the Ottoman leader, were killed. That much is clear. However, almost every other aspect of the battle—including the result itself—remains a mystery.

Based on the historical evidence, both the Serbian and the Ottoman armies were probably multinational forces. Indeed, it is likely that most of the Christian peoples of the Balkans, including the Albanians, contributed troops to the Serbian cause and that Serbs and Albanians fought on both sides.

Concerning the outcome, it seems that the battle was not as decisive as it has been portrayed. The result was more a draw than an Ottoman victory, since the Turkish forces subsequently withdrew from the region. The Serbian empire itself had disintegrated some 30 years earlier, though independent statehood remained for another 70 years.

Historical myths are by no means exclusive to Serbs, of course, nor are they necessarily harmful. Indeed, most societies draw strength from legends—whether Arthurian or about Washington and a cherry tree—which, if critically examined, are historically unsound. The difference with the Kosovo covenant, however, is that it has been abused to inculcate a sense of victimisation in Serbs which has blinded them to the plight of other peoples in the Balkans.

The deadly Greater Serbian agenda for the late 20th century grew out of the thinking and writing of Dobrica Cosic, one of Serbia's most distinguished novelists, a writer of popular, historical epics.

Cosic had been a partisan during the Second World War and a friend of Tito's for more than 20 years, yet he could not come to terms with Tito's attempts to emancipate Yugoslavia's Albanians and was purged for nationalism in 1968. In his frustration after his fall from grace, Cosic developed a complex and paradoxical theory of Serb national persecution. Over two decades, this evolved into the Greater Serbian program which Slobodan Milosevic first hijacked and then pursued.

The Serb national psyche which has so revolted the world since 1991 is thus not the product of centuries of historical evolution, but has been deliberately manufactured and intensively cultivated by the Serbian media since Milosevic's arrival in power in 1987.

Myth, fantasy, half-truths and brazen lies have been packaged each night into television news. The conspiracy theory dreamed up by frustrated nationalists such as Cosic in the late 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s became the literal truth.

Every conceivable event from Serb history was dredged up and distorted to feed the persecution complex of ordinary people who, at a time of collapsing living standards, were gradually taken in by the barrage of xenophobia. The atmosphere was so heated and the campaign so all-encompassing that people lost touch with reality.

According to the new orthodoxy, Serbs were victims exploited by and in danger from Yugoslavia's other peoples. While they had made huge sacrifices in blood to create Yugoslavia and had been victorious in war, they had allegedly been cheated in peace and thus divided between several republics in Tito's decentralised state.

Like any conspiracy theory, there is a kernel of truth in the new Serb orthodoxy. But it is a very small kernel.

Consider, for example, relations between Serbs and Croats. While contemporary propagandists (on both sides) claim that these peoples have been at each others' throats since time immemorial, Serb-Croat rivalry is actually a 20th century phenomenon. In the 19th century, Croat nationalists, who were preoccupied with a struggle against Austrians and Hungarians, had actually been great admirers of Serbia and the keenest advocates of a Yugoslav state. And the ruling party in the Croatian parliament in 1914 which voted to go to war with Serbia was the Serb-Croat Coalition.

And then there is the Second World War. For Serbs, this conflict is the ultimate proof that they have a near monopoly on suffering and can therefore do no wrong. After all, they will tell you that they fought together with the Allies against the Nazis and suffered great casualties. But is this really an accurate picture of what actually happened?

To a large extent Second World War in Yugoslavia was several civil wars which had little to do with the world war raging outside the country. All groups, with the exception of the Slovenes, fought against Serbs, though not in unison, while extreme nationalists on all sides were able to indulge their wildest fantasies.

The backbone of Tito's partisan army initially consisted largely of Serbs escaping Ustasa atrocities in Croatia and Bosnia, but not of Serbs from Serbia proper. Apart from an immediate uprising in 1941, which was savagely put down, Serbia remained more or less quiet until close to the end of the war.

Hitler installed a Quisling leader, Gen. Milan Nedic, who was loyal to the Nazis. In the absence of fighting, Nedic was able to wipe out Serbia's Jewish community under German supervision, more efficiently than the Ustasas could wipe out the Jews of Croatia and Bosnia. Nevertheless, Serb propagandists in the 1990s did not hesitate to claim a special affinity between Serbs and Jews.

The issue of war dead has also been seriously distorted. The official number of Yugoslavs who died fighting against the Axis powers was 1.7 million. The figure was only a rough calculation arrived at immediately after the war for reparations and propaganda purposes. Tito aimed both to maximise war compensation from Germany and to demonstrate to the world the scale of Yugoslavia's heroism and suffering.

But in Serb nationalist circles, operating on the principle “the more the better”, estimates of Serb dead extend to absurd levels—sometimes upwards of 700,000 at the notorious Jasenovac concentration camp alone.

During the 1980s, however, independent research into the question by two men, Bogoljub Kocovic, an emigre Serb, and Vladimir Zerjavic, a Croat, produced very similar results. Both investigations were based not on body counts or survivors' recollections but on computer analysis of census returns and demographic indices. According to Kocovic, whose figures are marginally higher than those of Zerjavic, a total of about 1,014,000, or 6.4 per cent of Yugoslavia's 1941 population, died during or in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War on all sides. According to their findings, in absolute terms, Serbs were the biggest losers, with 487,000 dead. The figures are shocking—and numbers alone cannot adequately convey the horrors. But mercifully they are well below the official number, and certainly those of the most extreme nationalists.

Yugoslavia's contribution to the overall Allied effort has also been greatly exaggerated, first by the victors themselves and more recently by statesmen wishing to justify a policy of non-intervention in the present conflict.

Given the extent and the chaos of Yugoslavia's own civil wars, Germany never needed to commit large numbers of troops. The only time when significant numbers of German troops were in Yugoslavia was during the initial 12-day invasion in 1941 and in 1944 when units stationed in Greece retreated across the country. Otherwise, Germany relied on its allies, the Italians, Hungarians and Bulgarians, and on local collaborators to keep Yugoslavia under control. The fighting itself took place largely in Bosnia.

No matter what aspect of Serbian history one cares to examine, the official version emanating from Belgrade appears to be at odds with the facts. What is especially depressing is that not so long ago, before Milosevic's emergence, Serbia was, in many way, the most liberal and progressive of Yugoslavia's republics. The Serbian media were remarkably open by the standards of eastern Europe and political opposition was tolerated, if not encouraged.

Looking back further in Serbian history it is possible to interpret many events in a very different manner and even to highlight periods of enlightenment and cooperation between Serb and non-Serb. Whatever the results of the NATO campaign, Serbia's future may ultimately depend above all on its war with its own history.

Serbian-Jewish Friendship Society

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serbian-Jewish_Friendship_Society

The Serbian-Jewish Friendship Society was founded in Belgrade, Serbia in 1987 by Klara Mandić, who is also the society's spokesperson. The official, primary focus of the Society was to establish full diplomatic relations between Israel and Yugoslavia, an act which had previously been stymied by Tito's communist regime. In addition to calling for diplomatic relations with Israel, the society also publicly advocated the idea that the sufferings of the Jewish people were identical to those undergone by the Serbs, and that Serbs and Jews had enjoyed long-standing good relations with each other. Some, however, have questioned the real motivations of those belonging to and administrating the Society, for several reasons; although Mandić considers herself to be a "Jewish Leader," only six of the society's several thousand claimed members are Jews. Moreover, in 1992, Mandić gave to the American Jewish press a phony account of Croats killing a Jewish woman names Ankica Konjuh. This account was cited as evidence of Croatian anti-semitism. In truth, as Mandić was well aware, Konjuh was neither Jewish, nor was she killed by Croats. Ankica Konjuh was a sixty-seven year old Croat who was one of 240 people killed as part of a campaign of ethnic cleansing carried out by Serbian Military forces. In December of 1991, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia met to demand that Mandić stop representing Konjuh as the first Jewish victim of the war.

I would like to reply to Mr

I would like to reply to Mr Jared Israel, Member of the "International Commission on Jasenovac" (Jasenovac was an awful concentration camp in Croatia during WWII).

On the web site of this "International Commission on Jasenovac" you will find a database with a huge number of victims supposedly killed by the Croatian collaborationist government.

I found in this database the names of both my grandfather's and grandmother's families. The problem is that this innocent people : children, women and men from German and Austrian descent, were all killed in 1944 by the Serbian communists in the most savage way (children killed in front of their mother, woman raped before their husbands... just the same as the Serbian soldiers did in Bosnia and Croatia some years ago).

So, I have some very, very good reasons to believe that this database is a huge lie and that this "International Commission on Jasenovac" is simply a propaganda tool for some ugly Serbian ultra-nationalist propaganda.

I find it quite disgusting to use the names of innocent victims to propagate ideas that were certainly those of their killers. But what can you expect from people that did such dirty crimes just some years ago in Srebrenica ?

stop spreading your comunist lies here mr Jared Israel!

all this talk about Ustashe, jasenovac labor camp from mr.Jared Israel(? are you communist jew or just lying jew paid by serbs?) is pure communist propaganda.maybe few thousand die that time from hard labor, disease. no more. Croats did not kill anyone in big number during second w.war!! if we did it like you say, then why jews still live in Zagreb??? also proof it all comunist lies is how come Croatia is having problems like now today with ppl like you spreading your lies here???

first, the God's truth.there was no so call "holocaust" in Croatia against serbs, jews, gipsies during second w. war! this is real figmant from your imaginings mr Jared Israel! no doubt you been reading lots of comunist propaganda history books by serbs+comunist jews! why you not talk about REAL "holocaust" in second w.war? (Bleiburg massacre of 500,000 Croats by comunist serb+jews?)go to proper (non)communist library! even most your american newspaper like ny times, they now realizing truth about false "holocaust" in Croatia(jasenovac labor camp-maybe few thousand died from disease, hard work) after 60 years of comunist lies! Croatian defenders of our homeland during second w.war(Ustashe) only killed in self defense when first atacked by filty comunist scum who was poluting our butiful homeland Croatia, same thing happen during glorius homeland war of 91-95 ("Oluja" liberation in '95 lead by famus general Ante Gotovina!) again Croatians only defend our homeland from comunist agresors, God knows every-body should know by now who filty agresors are always in history! (comunist serbs+jews!)

mr Jared Israel! stop spreading your filty comunist jew lies against Croatia and Thompson!

ZA DOM SPREMNI!!

Re; stop spreading your comunist lies here mr Jared Israel!

To all friends of Croatia and Croatian people:

I do not think that the Jewish people are against Croatia or Croatians and I do not think that many that are writing in the name of Jewish people or their associations, are Jewish. What I believe is that there is a hate propaganda machine against Croatia and Croatians that has befriended some people from different nationalities and religion to pursue their goal and that is to erase these historical times, that is the Aggression on Croatia, thus re write the history from 1990 -1995. This is their ultimate goal and we should not forget that. We should not allow this, we should always insist on the truth.

My dear friends of Croatia and Croatian people do not lower yourself to their level, do not call anyone any name, always defend the truth, and never insult anyone. I have friends from all walks of life, all faiths, and all nationalities. If it was up to people, every one would live in peace, but it is these hate mongrels that have these ugly hidden agendas, that pin one against the other. They take the scared and they use their fright, multiply it by thousand percent and scare them to the point that they are afraid of their own shadow. The ones, they can not scare, they through different means, make accomplices and then there is no way out. Then these out of their wits scared people, together with made accomplices, become the mouth peace for these unscrupulous lobbies and their ugly hidden agendas.
When we had “LIRA”, 55 members mixed choir performing in USA and Canada, my old Jewish friends were crying, because this was the first time they have ever heard old Jewish songs and the way they should sound. “LIRA” is Croatian-Jewish assemble, from ZAGREB, under Maestro Emil Cossetto, that for the past 55 years have charmed and captivated audiences through Croatia, Europe, Israel and United States as the best-known choirs in it’s class.

So, my friends, read everything, know your history, know who and what you are, do not get discouraged, get strong and always promote the truth.

God bless,
Marija

re: Re; stop spreading your comunist lies here mr Jared Israel!

Marija, since you have friedns of different nationalities, do you have any Serbs as a friends? And, what is the percentage of serbian population in Croatia now and what was prior to '90s war?

thanks

Croatians in Vojvodina and Zemun

I'm also curious to know what the percentage of croatian population in Vojvodina is now, particularly in Zemun and what it was prior to the '90's war. Unlike Croatia there was no fighting so the population should have stayed constant, no?

No, She murdered them all.

No, She murdered them all. because I am the only serb to have known her in person and live to remember it. but i went to hideous lentghs to escape when i found out she had started killing us. I successfully managed to get into bosnia and thus make my way into land that i knew would protect me (serbia), I believe it is my duty to expose her as the murderer of serb women and children that she is. may god have mercy on their souls

Thompson is undeniably a Croatian Nazi Fascist (aka "Ustasha")

I find it quite interesting how all these comments from Thompson's Croatian supporters fail to address the irrefutable evidence supplied by Jared Israel of Emperor's Clothes fame, of Marko Perkovic's glorification of the Ustasha regime and Jasenovac's mass-murdering butchers of Jews & Serbs (Maks Luburic and the Ustasha "Black Legion") but instead throw up diversions and decoys in the form of copy and paste jobs from so-called Balkan "NGOs" ("Non-Governmental Organizations" as in: "Hi, my name's George Soros and you know what, I'm not a murderer") whom specialize in anti-Serbian propaganda on behalf of NATO governments.

So-called NGO's like IWPR,HRW,ICG,HLC,"Greek Helsinki Monitor","Serbian Helsinki Commmittee for Human Rights" et al, are all funded directly or indirectly by NATO governments or by their outsourced "private" partner in crime: billionaire currency speculator and convicted insider trading criminal, George Soros, through his "Open Society Institute" (kind of a high-profit wing of the CIA).

NATO governments and their allied Western political elite-dominated tax-exempt foundations organized and funded the creation of all of
these so-called Balkan NGO's cited above (see proof cited below); ipso facto, what is written by the hacks employed by these NGO's - e.g., Sonja Biserko, Natasha Kandic & Christopher Bennett - who get their paychecks from such NATO government-linked sources, can hardly be described as "independent", "unbiased" or "neutral" sources of information, unless of course you think that a prostitute is having sex with total strangers out of pure love and not money. These NATO-employed hacks are journalistic prostitutes and nothing more.

One online commentator on the anti-communist US-based website, "Free Republic", has revealed that:

"Sonja Biserko [the former IWPR "reporter" and current head of the NATO-funded NGO: "Serbian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights"] is a daughter of a hard core Communist father and Croatian Communist mother. She grew up in Belgrade. Like her father, she herself was a hardcore communist apparatchik, was member of the Communist party to the bitter end (til the dissolution of the party).

"Ms. Biserko was an assistant to Budimir Lonchar, a Croat, when he was Secretary of Foreign Affairs of [SFRJ] Yugoslavia. Only a person with impeccable communist credentials could do such a job in a Communist state. In the Czech republic, people like Biserko was banned from entering politics.

"Biserko is a Croat who pretends to be a Serb, a former hardcore Communist apparatchik who pretends to be a Democrat, and a closet lesbian. This is more than enough data for her profiling.

"The alarming information is that this former Communist apparatchik was chosen by USIP [United States Institute for Peace] to be a 'scholar'.

"This is an explanation for where the Communists went after the fall of the Berlin wall.

"She is a Holocaust revisionist, and I will demonstrate it as well."

Another commentator on the US-based "Jihad Watch" website also stated the following:

"The Balkans are awash in NGO's staffed by people with degrees in sociology or 'International Development' who recieve funding to spend
money or to host international seminars on "The Status of Women in Developing Societies" or to put out reports of the type posted above.

"One needs to ask who is funding them and why?

"What is it with Helsinki and these Committees For This and those Foundations For That? A few people get together, form a corporation, give it an imposing name with the word Helsinki in front of it and I'm supposed to drop to one knee and bow my head in obeisance? Does anyone realize what a scam this is?"

Of course it's a diabolical SCAM folks, as anyone reading the following articles will soon discover:

The Circle of Deception
Mapping the Human Rights Crowd in the Balkans
by Gilles d'Aymery
July 23, 2001

Following a conversation with a Serbian acquaintance we investigated a report on "the Destruction of Evidence on Crimes against Kosovo Albanians" that was posted on balkanhr, the Balkan Human Rights List, that he had found through the Balkan Academic News.

From there, one thing leading to another and following Ariadne's thread, an unambiguous picture developed. Some people and some organizations are at the center of a vast circle of deception. They all look genuine, many are certainly well-intentioned but behind the veil of legitimacy and humanitarian concerns can be found the same powerful people and organizations such as the Open Society Institute of the billionaire and - as always characterized - philanthropist, George Soros, the Ford Foundation, the United States Institute of Peace, the National Endowment for Democracy and many more, financing and using a maze of well known NGO's such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the International Crisis Group, etc., as well as more obscure entities such as the Southeast European Politics (SEEP), the Balkan Academic News (BAN), the Consortium of Minority Resources (COMIR), the Minority Rights Group International (MRG), the Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) and myriad others. But, among all of them, shining as the Southern star, is George Soros who, like an immense Jules Verne octopus, extends his tentacles all over Eastern Europe, South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus as well as the republics of the former Soviet Union. With the help of these various groups, their partners and associates, all having laudable names, all receiving lavish funding, and again quite possibly most of them well-intentioned, they are able not only to shape but to create the news, the agenda and public opinion to further their aims which are, in short, the control of the world, its natural resources and the furtherance of their uniform ideal of a perfect world polity made in America.

This paper goes through a maze of connections. As said it starts with a report about the Destruction of Evidence on Crimes against Kosovo Albanians that was posted on the balkanhr Distribution List in May, 2001 and that covered the story -- disseminated by the main media later on in June -- of a refrigerated truck full of corpses that was pulled out of the Danube at the Iron Gates near Kladovo, in Serbia, on 6 April 1999. The report was unsigned. Its provenance, the message said, was the Humanitarian Law Center by the way of the Greek Helsinki Monitor. The next logical move was to visit the Greek Helsinki Monitor that is a part of The BALKAN Human Rights Web Pages. There, the report was linked....back to the Balkan Human Rights List (which was founded in February 2000 by....The BALKAN Human Rights Web Pages)!

Facing our first circle we decided to visit the Humanitarian Law Center but, after an hour or so, we could not find the original report (at least originally --please see the Note at the end of this report). So we went back to square one and decided to visit the Balkan Academic News (BAN). BAN is part of the Consortium of Minority Resources (COMIR) and affiliated with Southeast European Politics (SEEP). It is hosted by the Southeast European Politics (SEEP). BAN has its own distribution list on Yahoo. The creator of BAN is one Florian Bieber who happens to be a co-editor of SEEP. SEEP is sponsored by the Albanian Political Science Association, Tirana, Albania, the Open Society Institute, Budapest, Hungary, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary, and Independent Macedonian Political Science Association, Skopje, Macedonia (no Web site). SEEP's Web site also happens to be hosted by the Central European University (CEU). CEU was founded in 1994 by George Soros. CEU's related institutions are the Open Society Institute-Budapest and the Soros Foundations Network. "The Open Society Institute-Budapest was established in 1993 to develop and implement programs in the areas of educational, social and legal reform in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. OSI-Budapest is part of the Soros foundations network, a group of autonomous organizations created and supported by George Soros," says the Web site. Florian Bieber, the co-editor of SEEP and creator of BAN worked from October 1998 to June 2000 at CEU. He holds a M.A. in Southeast European Studies from CEU (he currently is a lecturer, Regional Masters Program in Democracy and Human Rights at the University of Sarajevo). If you take the time to carefully read his resume you will notice his many connections.

The other two sponsors of SEEP are The Independent Macedonian Political Science Association, Skopje, Macedonia that has no Web site and the Albanian Political Science Association, Tirana, Albania (ALPSA). ALPSA, was founded in 2000 to "contribute to the establishment and advancement of studies in all branches of political science (comparative politics, political economy and public choice, international relations, political theory, public policy, area studies, etc.) in Albanian-language institutions and universities in Albania and elsewhere." ALPSA does not provide any information about its funding. However, two of its board members have a diploma from CEU and the site mentions that the organization is a "joint publisher of SEEP"

As said, BAN, aside from being affiliated with SEEP, is part of the Consortium of Minority Resources (COMIR). COMIR, says the Web site, is "an Internet-based cooperative project that aims at promoting the free flow of information and dialogue in the field of ethnic relations, multicultural politics and minority rights. COMIR aims to establish a clearinghouse of information and activities relevant to Europe (OSCE region) to support democratic governance of multiethnic and multinational societies. To this end, COMIR develops and promotes virtual libraries, mailing lists, a database of full text documents, training materials, etc. Major initiatives include a Virtual Library, coordinated mailing lists, a meta-search engine across founders' web sites, a Minority Rights Practitioners Resource Pack, a best practice database, curriculum development and advocacy training." COMIR is hosted by The Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI). LGI "was launched in January 1997 by the Board of the Open Society Institute-Budapest. The Initiative replaces the Institute for Local Government and Public Service and builds on its achievements," says the Web site. "The development of democratic and effective government at sub-national levels [emphasis added] remains one of the central tasks of the transition. The sharing of expertise between countries can contribute significantly to the reform process in the region. The primary mission of LGI is to foster such cross-border cooperation and to support and disseminate throughout the region potentially important policy studies which should have a significant impact on public policy reform." COMIR is theretofore hosted by George Soros' Open Society Institute.

COMIR's partner sites are: Center of Documentation and Information on Minorities in Europe - Southeast Europe; Minority Rights Group MRG LGI MMCP; Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative; European Centre for Minority Issues; Roma Rights Center; Forum Institute for Social Studies; Balkan Academic News; Human Rights Watch; Constitutional & Legal Policy Institute; European Academy Bolzano/Bozen and World Organisation Against Torture.

COMIR being a partner of the Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM), we decided to revisit GHM.

According to the Web site, "Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) was founded in 1993 by members of Minority Rights Group - Greece, affiliated to Minority Rights Group - International since 1992. In 1993, GHM became the Greek member of the International Helsinki Federation. In 1998, GHM became a member of the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX); and in 2000 of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) and the Southeast Europe Media Organization (SEEMO). GHM monitors, publishes and lobbies on human rights issues in Greece and, occasionally, in the Balkans. It has participated in and often coordinated the monitoring of Greek and Balkan media for stereotypes and hate speech. It has prepared detailed reports on ethnonational, ethnolinguistic, religious and immigrant communities, in Greece; and on the Greek minorities in Albania and Turkey. [...] Since 1997, in cooperation with the European Roma Rights Center (ERRC), it runs a Roma Office for Greece. Since 1997, it also operates the Athens editorial office of the Alternative Information Network (AIM), while in 2000 it launched the electronic monthly "Dikaiomatika!" (Rightly!) in Greek. In 1998, GHM was a co-founder of the Center of Documentation and Information on Minorities in Europe - Southeast Europe (CEDIME-SE) which operates a web site (http://www.greekhelsinki.gr) and two web lists covering human rights issues and comprehensive and comparable presentations of all minorities in the region. In 2000, CEDIME-SE was one of the co-founders of the Consortium of Minority Resources (COMIR)."

"Greek Helsinki Monitor and Minority Rights Group - Greece would like to acknowledge the sponsorship of Open Society Institute, European Union's PHARE and Euromosaic programs, Austrian Government - Federal Chancellery, Nikos Dimou, "Artos Zois" Foundation, European Roma Rights Center, Berghof Foundation for Conflict Research, Aspen Institute Berlin, International Helsinki Federation, Communication and Political Research Society, Greek General Secretariat for Youth, and a few others."

So, GHM is funded, among others, by OSI. But what of the various "organizations" with which GHM is associated?

Minority Rights Group International (MRG): MRG is a "non-governmental organization based in London, UK, MRG promotes the rights of ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities." MRG does not disclose funding and sponsorship but GHM mentions that at least MRG-Greece is supported, among others, by OSI (see above). It has a link to COMIR on its front page.

The European Roma Rights Center (ERRC): ERRC is "an international public interest law organisation which monitors the human rights situation of Roma and provides legal defence in cases of human rights abuse." Major sponsors are: Open Society Institute, Ford Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Ruben and Elisabeth Rausing Trust, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and J.M. Kaplan Fund.

Please note that while GHM is partly "sponsored" by OSI, it is also partly "sponsored" by ERRC which in turn is partly "sponsored" by....OSI!

International Freedom of Expression exchange (IFEX): IFEX "was born in 1992 when many of the world's leading freedom of expression organizations came together in Montreal to discuss how best to further their collective goals." IFEX support organizations are: Canadian International Development Agency, Canada; Open Society Institute, U.S.A.; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark; The Ford Foundation, U.S.A.; Freedom Forum, U.S.A.; Humanistic Institute for Co-operation with Developing Countries (Hivos), The Netherlands; Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation, U.S.A; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finland; Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation, U.S.A.; Swedish International Development Agency, Sweden; and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN): EMHRN, established in January 1997, "is a network of human rights organisations based in more than 20 countries from the Euro-Mediterranean region." Funding/sponsors are not disclosed. Among its members are Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (see below).

GHM is also related to the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR). "Founded in 1991, IWPR is an independent educational charity based in the United Kingdom." "IWPR supports democratisation and development in crisis zones by providing an international platform, professional training and financial assistance to independent media, human rights activists and other democratic voices." The IWPR Web site acknowledges the following "private and governmental foundations and agencies supporting its regional reporting and media development activities:" Carnegie Corporation of New York; Department for International Development (UK); European Commission, Foreign and Commonwealth Office; Freedom Forum; Ford Foundation; National Endowment for Democracy; Community Fund (UK); Open Society Institute; Press Now; Samuel Rubin Foundation; Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency; US Institute for Peace and Winston Foundation for World Peace.

GHM disseminates the reports of Human Rights Watch (HRW) and is related to HRW at least through COMIR and EMHRN. George Soros is known as the "financier of HRW." For the readers who are not familiar with HRW we recommend the report by Paul Treanor, Who is behind Human Rights Watch? The European section of the Board of HRW (or committee), called the Europe and Central Asia Division is affiliated with the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (the latter, by the way, is financed by, among others, the Ford Foundation. See http://www.ihf-hr.org/about.htm#Funders).

The Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms (funding unknown) publishes a weekly report on the "situation of human rights and freedoms in Kosova" [please note the spelling]. These reports are disseminated by, among others, GHM and BAN.

So are the reports and analysis of the International Crisis Group (ICG). ICG "is a private, multinational organisation committed to strengthening the capacity of the international community to anticipate, understand and act to prevent and contain conflict." Readers may recall the ICG report dated November 26, 1999 on Trepca: Making Sense of the Labyrinth which advocated that UNMIK and KFOR take control of the Trepca mining complex - which they did. ICG is an intriguing organization that would deserve to be reviewed on its own. ICG states on its Web site that "Maintaining a diverse funding base is critical to preserving ICG's political independence and credibility." It adds that "ICG raises funds from governments, charitable foundations, companies and individual donors. The following governments currently provide funding: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, the Republic of China (Taiwan) [ed. please note how they characterize Taiwan], Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Foundation and private sector donors include the Ansary Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the Ploughshares Fund, the Sasakawa Foundation, the Smith Richardson Foundation, the Ford Foundation and the U.S. Institute of Peace."

The best way to form an opinion in regard to ICG's "political independence and credibility" is to look at its Board. Among its 50+ members are the following names: Stephen Solarz (Vice-Chairman, ICG and former U.S. Congressman); Morton Abramowitz (former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey); Kenneth Adelman (former US Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Ambassador to the UN); Richard Allen (former Head of US National Security Council and National Security Advisor); Louise Arbour (Supreme Court Judge, Canada and former Chief Prosecutor, International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia); Wesley Clark (former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, Europe); Allan J. MacEachen (former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada); Barbara McDougall (former Secretary of State for External Affairs, Canada); Wayne Owens (President, Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Co-operation); George Soros (Chairman, Open Society Institute); and Mortimer Zuckerman (Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, U.S. News and World Report).

So, from little-known organizations or people such as SEEP, COMIR, BAN, GHM, IFEX, ERRC, etc. and Florian Bieber to bigger fish like ICG, HRW, IPWR, etc., and Louise Arbour, Morton Abramowitz or Wesley Clark -- to cite just a few -- the agenda, the ideology, the sources of funding are the same. They originate with the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for Democracy, the US Institute for Peace, the Open Society Institute and many, many more wealthy institutions; and George Soros can invariably be found at the epicenter of this concentric maze (which will not surprise the readers who have read our August 2000 essay, Armies of Compassion: The Missionary, the Businessman and the Military).

Not only do they shape and form opinion, they create the news, they pay for -- they literally buy -- the news to be shaped and created (remember the "suitcases" of cash being funneled to the opposition -- DOS, Otpor, B92, etc. -- before the Yugoslav elections in October 2000?), to control how public opinion is shaped and created; a public who has little or no idea of how the news and their opinions are created, sculpted like a fake Rodin, and from where they really come. Total manipulation, total deception and total mind control.

Pathetic, isn't it?

Note: To demonstrate the above with a case study we are reviewing the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) and the report, "Destruction of Evidence on Crimes against Kosovo Albanians," that was found on balkanhr, the Balkan Human Rights List (but that originated with HLC) in our next commentary, The Fabrication and Dissemination of Deception.

The Fabrication and Dissemination of Deception
by Gilles d'Aymery
July 23, 2001

Editor's Note: This commentary follows the article Not Only Are They Demons, Serbs Are Imbeciles, and the report, The Circle of Deception: Mapping the Human Rights Crowd in the Balkans, and should be read concurrently as they are closely related.

Many news reports of atrocities and "genocide" allegedly committed by the Serbs and widely disseminated in the Western main media have originated with a little known NGO in Belgrade, Serbia, the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC). The story of the refrigerated truck filled with corpses that was purportedly dumped in the [river] Danube in April 1999 is a good example.

Report of the news was posted on the Internet on various distribution lists and Web sites (BAN, Balkanhr, GHM) and eventually found its way to IWPR and the major news media but it originated with HLC.

While the story is buried on the site and does not seem (as of July 21, 2001) to be available by surfing the site, it can be retrieved (again as of July 21, 2001) by typing the words "refrigerated truck" in the site's search engine. Then comes the full story with two pictures, entitled: New Testimony on Removal of Evidence of Crimes in Kosovo. Its URL is http://www.hlc.org.yu/english/hlc2000/hlc2000-kladovo.htm.

But first, a couple of words about the Humanitarian Law Center. HLC was created in 1992 by Natasa Kandic, its present Executive Director. It has been funded by who else but George Soros as well as the National Endowment for Democracy (see http://csf.colorado.edu/pen-l/2000IV/msg00187.html). This year the Ford Foundation provided HLC with a $80,000 grant.

Kandic is a darling of the Western Human Rights crowd. She's received tons of awards and was conferred an honorary doctorate by the University of Valencia, Spain, for "her longstanding work in the field of human rights and her humanitarian activities."

According to a July 18 editorial by Justin Raimundo of Antiwar.com, "It was Kandic who, as the organizer of an OSCE media conference held in Montenegro, told Serbian journalists who walked out in protest at the NATO-crats' high-handedness: 'They pay you and have the right to question your conduct during the war.' Heavily subsidized by interventionist sugar-daddy George Soros, Kandic is a weird, isolated figure in Serbian politics, one of the few who openly sided with NATO during the bombing."

So, one could entertain the idea that if "they" pay, "they" also have the right and the expectation to a return on their investment. Natasa Kandic has undoubtedly been quite a profitable investment!

Back to the refrigerated truck story. What is posted on the HLC site is a compendium of several articles that appeared in the Serbian pro-governmental (that is the current government) media (press, magazines and radio). The names of these news outlets are quite telling as they assemble the core of the fiercest opposition to the former socialist government of Serbia and Yugoslavia.

No need to review B92, FreeB92, and Radio B92. They've been financed from their cradle to today by Western money, not the least that of George Soros.

Danas, with a circulation of about 45,000 is a corporate member of SEEMO, another murky NGO. Danas is defined as a "liberal (in an Anglo-Saxon meaning of this term), pro-European newspaper, which stands for the highest levels of tolerance in Yugoslav society and is strongly dedicated to the principles and values of democracy and civility. It strives for pluralism and dialogue, for the complete and thorough protection of basic human rights, as well as the rights of all sorts of minorities - national, religious, cultural, and other."

BETA is a pro-western sort of Serbian AP.

No information was available at the time of this writing for Glas and Politika.

NIN is the Serbian Time magazine.

Ljubica Gojgic who is either the author of the NIN story or that of the entire compendium posted on HLC, is a reporter for NIN and has possibly (unconfirmed) also written for Danas. [Ed. Please, see note added on July 28, 2001.] Gojgic was the recipient of "the annual Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship program, a six-month, on-the-job training program for print journalists from developing and transitional countries at U.S. newspapers, including the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer." (see http://www.inform.umd.edu/News/Diamondback/00-06-29/news2.html)

The story was milked by all the above news outlets but it appears that it came originally from the Timocka Krimi Revija (Timok Crime Review), a small publication in Timok Krajina founded, privately-owned and edited by Dragan Vitomirovic. Vitomirovic has also written for Danas. He was recently appointed new director of the Radio Zajecar, the oldest local radio outlet in Serbia. Vitomirovic is also known for his old and close friendship with current interior minister (and Deputy Prime Minister), Dusan Mihajlovic, a politician of the most rabid anti-Milosevich faction.

Now that the entities and characters with whom we are dealing have become more familiar and clear, let's have a look at the HLC report. In and of itself the report does not call for a complete deconstruction. As said, it's a compendium, either assembled by HLC's staff or by Ljubica Gojgic. Also said, the story has been milked as far as possible and rehashed by the various outlets. They all find witnesses, often the same ones, go into long demonstrations of how the "crime" was buried, becoming a secret of state. Of course, now that Serbia is finally a "free" country, tongues are unknotted, people are "free" to talk and they are talking, aren't they? It's fascinating to see how many of them got involved with the event and have something to say to the reporters. Yet, for two long years they kept silent, nothing really transpired. It had to be due to the brutal dictatorship of the "Butcher of Belgrade..." Had to be, of course!

However, we'd like to point out three small details, you know, those darn little facts...

First, scrutinize the two pictures and ask yourselves what you think of the second one. Just ask yourselves.

Second, please make sure to read the following passage that is located under the second picture: "I was in a boat on the river, only some thirty meters from the bank, when I heard voices about 2.15 a.m. Sound carries a long way on the Danube at night. I don't know what language they were speaking there on the bank - I didn't understand any of the words. It might have been Turkish or Albanian - who knows. But I'm certain it wasn't Serbian or Romanian, which I know well."

Third and finally, ask yourselves whether you've heard of, seen or read any press report on your local radio, your TV news or your favorite newspapers that even alluded to that very quote. Have the AI, HRW or IWPR that were so quick to jump on this abominable story of atrocity, immediately linking it to the so-called Asanacija plan, ever mentioned that part of the story? Check for yourselves how, for instance, IWPR reported the story on June 15, 2001 in Belgrade Prepares Serbs for Milosevic Extradition. It seems that some witnesses are better than others, does it not?

Do you get the picture?

Note: Another short example of fabrication and dissemination of deception: A video of Milosevich's arraignment at the IWCTY was and still remains posted on the BBC at http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/cta/events01/world/eur/milosevic_trial/hague_03july.ram. I wanted to keep a copy but unfortunately was unable to do so. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I visited the Web site of B92 at http://www.b92.net and found a downloadable 10 MB high quality copy. When I watched it, I found that to my consternation several parts had been edited out in comparison to the original video, particularly when the judge turns the mike off when Milosevich is speaking in Serbocroatian (his words translated). The video is drastically shortened and essentially does not show the nasty face of the Kangaroo court. This is a perfect example of deception. You simply edit what you do not want your viewers to see. Keep it clean and simple (the famous American KISS concept). Here again, control of the information....and mind control!

Editor's Note, added July 28, 2001. On July 25, we received an e-mail from Ljubica Gojgic. Ms. Gojgic confirms that she is a NIN's reporter and advises us that she has never written for Danas and that she is not the author of the report posted on HLC. We thank her for this clarification.

Who is behind Human Rights Watch? (2004)
Under President Clinton, Human Rights Watch was the most influential pro-intervention lobby: its 'anti-atrocity crusade' helped drive the wars in ex-Yugoslavia. Under George W. Bush it lost influence to the neoconservatives, who have their own crusades. But the 'two interventionisms' are not so different anyway: Human Rights Watch is founded on belief in the superiority of American values. It has close links to the US foreign policy elite, and to other interventionist and expansionist lobbies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No US citizen, and no US organisation, has any right to impose US values on Europe. No concentration camps or mass graves can justify that imposition. But Human Rights Watch finds it self-evident, that the United States may legitimately restructure any society, where a mass grave is found. That is a dangerous belief for a superpower: European colonialism shows how easily a 'civilising mission' produces its own atrocities. The Belgian 'civilising mission' in the Congo, at the time promoted as a noble and unselfish enterprise, killed half the population. Sooner or later, more people will die in crusades to prevent a new Holocaust, than died in the Holocaust itself. And American soldiers will continue to kill, torture and rape, in order to prevent killings, torture and rape.
For a century there has been a strong interventionist belief in the United States - although it competes with widespread isolationism. In recent years attitudes hardened: human-rights interventionism became a consensus among the 'foreign policy elite' even before September 11. Human Rights Watch itself is part of that elite, which includes government departments, foundations, NGO's and academics. It is certainly not an association of 'concerned private citizens'. HRW board members include present and past government employees, and overlapping directorates link it to the major foreign policy lobbies in the US. Cynically summarised, Human Rights Watch arose as a joint venture of George Soros and the State Department. Nevertheless, it represents some fundamental characteristics of US-American culture.

The September 11 attacks confirmed the interventionism of the entire foreign policy elite - not just the highly visible neoconservatives. More important, the public response illustrated the almost absolute identification of Americans with their own value system. Without any apparent embarrassment, President Bush declared that a war between good and evil was in progress. Ironically, that mirrors the language of the Islamic fundamentalists. It implies a Crusader mentality, rather than the usual pseudo-neutrality of liberal-democratic political philosophy. A society which believes in its own absolute goodness, and the absolute and universal nature of its own values, is a fertile ground for interventionism.

Human rights are part of the American value system, but they are also especially useful as an 'ideology of justification' in wartime. Such an ideology should ideally meet some criteria. First, it should not be a simple appeal to self-interest. Simply stating "We own the world!" or "We are the master race, submit to us!" is not good propaganda. As a slogan, 'war on terrorism' is also inadequate, since it is too clearly an American war, against the enemies of America. For propaganda purposes, an appeal to higher values is preferable.

Second, these higher values should be universal. This is why Islamism would probably fail as an interventionist ideology: it is specific to Islam. A geopolitical claim to intervene in support of Islamic values can be answered simply by saying: "We are not Muslims here". The doctrine of universal human rights is, by definition, universal and cross-cultural.

Third, the ideology should appeal to the population of the super-power. In the United States, for historical reasons, 'rights doctrines' have become part of its political culture. It would be pointless for a US President to justify a war by appealing to Islam, or royal legitimacy, because very few Americans hold these beliefs. Most Americans do believe in rights theories - and very few know that these theories are disputed.

Fourth, if possible, the ideology should appeal to the 'enemy' population. It should ideally be part of their values. That is difficult, but the doctrine of human rights has succeeded in acquiring cross-cultural legitimacy. This does not mean it is inherently right - but simply that no non-western cultures have an answer to the doctrine. The government of China, for instance, fully accepts the concept of human rights, and claims to uphold them. So when it is accused of human rights violations, it can do nothing but deny, on this issue it is perpetually on the defensive. Acceptance of your values by the enemy population could be seen as the Holy Grail of war propaganda: if the enemy leadership is incapable of presenting an alternative value system, it will ultimately collapse.

Human rights are not the only ideology of intervention. The 'civilising mission', which justified 19-th century colonisation, is another example. The point is that human rights can serve a geopolitical purpose, which is unrelated to their moral content. It is not possible to show that 'human rights' exist, and most moral philosophers would not even try. It might not be a very important issue in ethics anyway - but it is important in politics and geopolitics. And geopolitics is what Human Rights Watch is about - not about ethics. HRW itself is an almost exclusively US-American organisation. Its version of human rights is the Anglo-American tradition. It is 'mono-ethical' - recognising no legitimate ethical values outside its own. However, the human-rights tradition is not, and can never be, a substitute for a general morality. Major ethical issues such as equality, distributive justice, and innovation, simply don't fit into rights-based ethics.

Ethical values are not, in themselves, culturally specific. However, this ethical tradition has become associated with the United States. It is dominant in the political culture, it has become associated with the flag and other national symbols, and it is capable of generating intense national emotion. It emphasises the universal rights set out in the American Declaration of Independence and its Constitution. In a sense the US was 'pre-programmed' as an interventionist power. Universal human rights, by their nature, tend to justify military intervention to enforce those rights. Expansionists, rather than isolationists, are closest to the spirit of the American Constitution, with its inherently interventionist values. In fact, most US-Americans believe in the universality and superiority of their ethical tradition. Interventionist human-rights organisations are, like the neoconservative warmongers, a logical result. Human Rights Watch is not formally an 'association for the promotion of the American Way of Life' - but it tends to behave like one.

Human Rights Watch operates a number of discriminatory exclusions, to maintain its American character, and that in turn reduces internal criticism of its limited perspective. Although it publishes material in foreign languages to promote its views, the organisation itself is English-only. More seriously, HRW discriminates on grounds of nationality. Non-Americans are systematically excluded at board level - unless they have emigrated to the United States. HRW also recruits its employees in the United States, in English. The backgrounds of the Committee members (below) indicate that HRW recruits it decision-makers from the upper class, and upper-middle class. Look at their professions: there are none from middle-income occupations, let alone any poor illegal immigrants, or Somali peasants.

Human Rights Watch can therefore claim no ethical superiority. It is itself involved in practices it condemns elsewhere, such as discrimination in employment, and exclusion from social structures. It can also claim no neutrality. An organisation which will not allow a Serb or Somali to be a board member, can give no neutral assessment of a Serbian or Somali state. It would probably be impossible for this all-American, English-only, elite organisation, to be anything else but paternalistic and arrogant. To the people who run HRW, the non-western world consists of a list of atrocities, and via the media they communicate that attitude to the American public. It can only dehumanise African, Asians, Arabs and eastern Europeans. Combined with a tendency to see the rest of the world as an enemy, that will contribute to new abuses and continuing civilian deaths, during America's crusades.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who runs the HRW Europe Committee?
Human Rights Watch is organised approximately by continent. The Europe section was established in 1978, originally named 'Helsinki Steering Committee' or 'Helsinki Watch'. It is the core of the later Human Rights Watch organisation. In the late 1970's, human rights had become the main issue in Cold War propaganda, after Soviet concessions at the Helsinki summit (1975), allowing human rights monitoring. Western governments encouraged 'private' organisations to use this concession - not out of moral concern, but as a means of pressuring the Soviet Union. HRW was one of these 'private' organisations: in other words, it began as a Cold War propaganda instrument.
The committee is now called the Europe and Central Asia Advisory Committee. It is still affiliated with the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, which co-ordinates the "Helsinki committees". The membership now includes fewer ex-diplomats than in the 1990's, more academics, and a few HRW donors. This web page and other similar publicity, has probably influenced the change in style. (By appointing his tax lawyer to the HRW Board, Soros exposed himself to ridicule and charges of cronyism).

The list of committee members below is as of March 2004.

Peter Osnos, chair

George Soros' publisher. He is Chief Executive of Public Affairs publishers.
Alice Henkin, Vice Chair
Human Rights lawyer, Director of the Justice and Society Program at the Aspen Institute. Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the most influential elite foreign-policy lobby. The President and CEO of the Aspen Institute is Walter Issacson, who is also Chairman and CEO of CNN News.
Henri Barkey
Professor of International Relations at Lehigh University, advised the State Department on Turkish and Kurdish issues. Married to Ellen Laipson, former Special Assistant to Madeleine Albright, when Albright was UN Ambassador. Considered anti-Turkish by some Turkish media. See: Columnist on US Plans for Cyprus, 1999.

Jonathan Fanton, ex-member
Chair of the HRW International Committee until 2003, and still a member. President of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, itself a HRW donor. Former Vice President of the University of Chicago, in 1982 appointed as President of the New School for Social Research, now the New School University. He is active in building US academic contacts with eastern Europe, directed at the new pro-western elites, see the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies (TCDS) page.
Morton Abramowitz, ex-member
A link to the foreign policy establishment, one of several at HRW. Abramowitz was U.S. Ambassador to Turkey (1989-91) and Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research (1985-89), among other posts: see his personal details at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he is a Fellow. The CFR is the heart of interventionist US policy since 1921 (and hated by the isolationist right).
He directed the CFR Balkan Economic Task Force, which published a report on "Reconstructing the Balkans".

Stephen Del Rosso
Ex-diplomat, also member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Works for the Carnegie Corporation as 'Senior Program Officer' International Peace and Security, and before that for the Pew Trust. See his biography at the Carnegie website - a typical international affairs career.
Barbara Finberg
A donor of HRW, see the list below. A retired vice president with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, who donated $1 million to Stanford University.
Felice Gaer
Human rights specialist at the American Jewish Committee, and Chairperson of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, which is primarily active against Islamic countries and China. According to this JTA report, Gaer praised Madeleine Albright for her "outstanding human rights record", apparently meaning that she would not allow any criticism of Israel's housing policy in Jerusalem. Gaer was also chair of the Steering Committee for the 50th anniversary of the UN Human Rights Declaration, see this biography:
"Ms.Gaer is Director of the Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights. Author, speaker, and activist, she is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Board of Directors of the Andrei Sakharov Foundation, a member of the International Human Rights Council at the Carter Center, ...Vice President of the International League for Human Rights."
In 1999, Felice Gaer was a non-governmental member of the United States delegation to a United Nations Human Rights Commission meeting in Geneva, where (according to the Voice of America) she denounced Sudan, saying the the U.S. "cannot accept those who invoke Islam or other religions as justification for atrocious human rights abuses." More interesting ( with hindsight) is this speech at the Geneva meeting, where she suggested the UN should no longer investigate prison rapes in the US: "we would urge the Special Rapporteurs to focus their attention on countries where the situation is the most dire and the abuses the most severe."

The disclosures about abuse of prisoners in Iraq illustrate the ethical problem here. One thing you can't say, is that 'America doesn't treat its own prisoners like that'. Americans do treat their fellow citizens like that - in American jails, which have a consistently bad record on prisoner abuse. But Felice Gaer suggested that it somehow isn't as bad, if the US authorities do such things. The United States, she said, was committed to human rights and... "When violations occur, we have the mechanisms and protections in place to prosecute."

In reality, US authorities responded as at Abu Ghraib, and Guantanamo Bay: they obstructed outside investigators. The Report of the mission to the United States of America on the issue of violence against women in state and federal prisons says:

"...on the eve of her visit to Michigan, the Special Rapporteur received a letter dated 12 June 1998 from the Governor of Michigan informing her that she would not be allowed to ... visit any of the women's prisons... The Special Rapporteur found this refusal particularly disturbing since she had received very serious allegations of sexual misconduct occurring at Florence Crane Women's Facility and Camp Branch Facility for Women in Coldwater, Michigan, as well as at Scott Correctional Facility for Women in Plymouth, Michigan."

Virginia and California also obstructed the Special Rapporteur. Felice Gaer knew that, because the report had already been published. She was lying when she told the UN that "we welcome outside investigations". Instead of condemning the obstruction, she diverted attention to abuses in Nigeria, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and China. The United States, she explained, is an open, democratic society.

That sounds like Donald Rumsfeld speaking about Abu Ghraib. It is dangerous attitude: it implies that America can ultimately do no wrong, since its open society is a perfect defence against abuse of power. Human Rights Watch does promote that attitude - that 'human rights abuse' is essentially something done by foreigners, and that American institutions are somehow immunised against it. Now, the US soldiers who abused and killed prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan don't see themselves as comparable to the previous regimes: they see themselves as the good guys, defenders of a system which is infinitely better. Certainly under wartime conditions, that attitude inevitably leads to abuses.

So Human Rights Watch itself must accept some of the blame, for what happened to the prisoners. HRW divides humanity in two: on the one side are the supporters of American values. On the other, worthless criminal barbarian rapists and torturers. In this logic 'human rights' does not imply that Iraqi prisoners should be treated with respect, but rather the opposite. From "our torture is different" it's a small step to "our torture is acceptable because it is anti-torturer" and then another small step to "human rights means torturing torturers". Or their friends, or their family, or the subversives who want to appease them...

Michael Erwin Gellert
Vice Chairman of the Board at Fanton's New School for Social Research. Partner in the private investment company Windcrest Partners, and Chairman of the Board of the Carnegie Institute. Gellert is or was a director of Premier Parks Inc., owner of the Six Flags and Walibi theme park chains.

Paul Goble
Director of Communications and political commentator at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Cold War propaganda transmitters that survived the end of the Cold War. From their website
"Free Europe, Inc., was established in 1949 as non-profit, private corporations to broadcast news and current affairs programs to Eastern European countries behind the Iron Curtain. The Radio Liberty Committee, Inc., was created two years later along the same lines to broadcast to the nations inside the Soviet Union. Both were funded principally by the U.S. Congress, through the Central Intelligence Agency, but they also received some private donations as well. The two corporations were merged into a single RFE/RL, Inc. in 1975."

It is still funded by the US Government, through Congressional appropriation.

Bill Green, ex-member
Former Republican member of Congress, a trustee of the New School for Social Research (where Fanton is President), with many other public and business posts: see the biography at the American Assembly, an academic/political think-tank.
Stanley Hoffman
A pro-interventionist theorist (of course that means US intervention, not a Taliban invasion of the US). Professor at Harvard, see his biography. Note that his colleagues include Daniel Goldhagen, who openly advocated occupation of Serbia, to impose a US-style democracy: see A New Serbia.
Jeri Laber
Longtime HRW staff member, since the Helsinki Watch period. Now an advisor, without executive tasks,
Kati Marton, ex-member
President of the Committee to Protect Journalists. However this 'protection' did not extend to journalists killed by NATO bombing of the Belgrade TV studios: she declined to condemn it. This may, perhaps, have something to do with not embarrassing her husband: Richard C. Holbrooke, former Special Envoy to Yugoslavia, and US Ambassador to the United Nations. For an idea of the social world behind Human Rights Watch, and a glimpse of of how US foreign policy is made, see this article about their cocktail parties...
Dick Holbrooke, who's been U.N. ambassador since August, has a different idea of what sort of people the suite should be filled with. Tonight, he's hosting a dinner for General Wesley Clark, the granite-faced, soft-spoken nato chief, who is leaving his post in April. .... Dressed in a formal pin-striped suit, crisp white shirt, and red tie, Holbrooke still manages to look comfortably rumpled -- his unruly hair is the secret to this effect -- as he banters his way around the room. Introducing Clark to billionaire financier George Soros and Canadian press lord Conrad Black, Holbrooke teasingly calls the general, whose formal title is supreme Allied commander for Europe, "The Supreme,"...
Holbrooke's wife, the author Kati Marton, is equally adept at the art of the cocktail party. Dressed in an elegant white pantsuit, she ushers guests into the dining room, where four tables are set for a meal of crab cakes and sautéed duck. Marton and Holbrooke, who have been giving twice-a-week diplomatic dinners, have a carefully choreographed act. "I give the opening toast, which is unorthodox in the U.N. village," she explains. "Richard and I are making the point we're doing this together."
Ambassador A-List, from the January 3, 2000 issue of New York Magazine.

As 'journalist protector', Kati Marton lobbied for the Soros-funded B92 radio in Belgrade, which played a central role in the opposition under Milosevic, at least until his last year in power. The campaign for B92 is illustrative of the symbiotic relationship of interventionist lobbies and interventionist governments. Marton was lobbying to protect an 'independent' radio station which was already part-funded by the US government (National Endowment for Democracy). Partly as a result, it got even more western funding.

Immediately after the station was banned, Ivor Roberts, the British ambassador, showed his support by visiting its offices on the fifth floor of a run-down socialist-style building in downtown Belgrade. Carl Bildt, then the international High Representative in charge of the civilian side of the Dayton peace agreement in Bosnia, the US State Department, and Kati Marton of the Committee to Protect Journalists also made protests on behalf of the station.

Internet technology and international pressure proved to be effective weapons against Milosevic. After two days he withdrew his edict forbidding B-92 to broadcast. It seems likely that he was convinced that lifting the ban would win Western praise and deflect international attention from his electoral fraud. Immediately afterward, B-92 was able - through funds provided equally by the BBC, the British Foreign Office, USAID, the European Union, and George Soros's Open Society Foundation-to gain access to a satellite that linked twenty-eight independent local radio stations, covering 70 percent of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which is now made up of Serbia and Montenegro.
1997 article from the New York Review of Books

Prema Mathai-Davis, ex-member
A token non-westerner, an Indian immigrant. She was, however, also CEO of the YWCA (Young Womens Christian Association), which is as American as can be.
Jack Matlock, ex-member
US Ambassador to the Soviet Union during its collapse, 1987-1991. Author of Autopsy On An Empire: The American Ambassador's Account of the Collapse of the Soviet Union (Random House, 1995).
Member of the large Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council. The Atlantic Council is more than a pro-NATO fan club: it supports an expansionist US foreign policy in general. Note their recent paper (in pdf format) Beyond Kosovo, a redesign of the Balkans within the framework of the proposed Stability Pact.

The Atlantic Council list of sponsors is a delight for corporate-conspiracy theorists. Yes, it is all paid for by the Rockefeller foundation, the Soros foundation, the Nuclear Energy Institute, Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop, Exxon, British Nuclear Fuels, the US Army and the European Union. And, no surprise to conspiracy fans, Matlock attended the 1996 Bilderberg Conference.

Walter Link
Chairman of the Global Academy Institute for Globalization, Human Rights, and Leadership - obviously not a man to limit the scope of his activities. Promoter of the Blue Planet Run, a global foot-race starting in San Francisco, which will improve the global water supply. That's what it says at the website anyway. The Academy is associated with the futurist John Naisbitt.
Michael McFaul
Hoover Institution Fellow at Stanford University. See his biography. A lobbyist for the 'democratisation' of Russia, and relatively hostile to the Putin government. Note, that there is no lobby in Russia, that seeks to decide the form of government of the United States.
Sarah E. Mendelson
Senior Fellow at the Center For Strategic and International Studies. Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Chechnya specialist. See her CV.
Karl Meyer
Editor of World Policy Journal, published by the World Policy Institute. The WPI supports an expansionist and interventionist American foreign policy: it is part of Jonathan Fanton's New School University.
Joel Motley
Also on the main HRW Board. Managing Director, Carmona Motley, Inc. Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, where he was a member of their Task Force on Non-Lethal Technologies. This is what Mr. Motley wants to do the poor, to improve their human rights:
- jamming or destruction of communications, together with the ability to transmit television and radio programs of ones choice, potentially useful for reducing inflammatory, sometimes genocidal, messages or separating murderous rulers from army and populace;
- slickums and stickums to impede vehicle or foot traffic;
- highly obnoxious sounds and smells, capable of inducing immediate flight or temporary digestive distress.
That would have helped in Somalia, concludes the CFR Task Force. Needless to say there was no Somali on the Task Force either. Motley is also on the Advisory Board of LEAP, an educational charity, where they develop courses in, among other things, conflict resolution. Their website doesn't say whether the children are trained to use digestive distress agents.

Herbert Okun
Career diplomat, former Special Advisor on Yugoslavia to Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, Deputy Co-Chairman of the International Conference on the former Yugoslavia. Member of the Board of the Lawyers Alliance for World Security (LAWS) and its affiliate the Committee for National Security (CNS) which gives this biography:
Ambassador Herbert Okun is the U.S. member and Vice-President of the International Narcotics Control Board, and Visiting Lecturer on International Law at Yale Law School. Previously, he was the Deputy Chairman on the U.S. delegation at the SALT II negotiations and led the U.S. delegation in the trilateral U.S.-U.K.-USSR Talks on the CTBT. From 1991 to 1993 Ambassador Okun was Special Advisor on Yugoslavia to Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, Personal Envoy of the U.N. Secretary General, and Deputy Co-Chairman of the International Conference on the former Yugoslavia. He also served as Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN from 1985 to 1989 serving on the General Assembly, the Disarmament Committee and the Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Amb. Okun was also U.S. Ambassador to the former German Democratic Republic.

He was from 1990-97 Executive Director of the Financial Services Volunteer Corps, "a non-profit organization providing voluntary assistance to help establish free-market financial systems in former communist countries", see his biography at International Security Studies at Yale University, where he is also a board member. This Corps is a de facto agency of USAID, see how it is listed country-by-country in their report. Although it is not relevant to Human Rights Watch, this curriculum vitae gives a good impression of the kind of international elite created by such programs.

Okun is also a member emeritus of the board of the European Institute in Washington, an Atlanticist lobby. It organises the European-American Policy Forum, the European-American Congressional Forum, and the Transatlantic Joint Security Policies Project. Okun is a special advisor to the Carnegie Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict funded by the Carnegie Corporation. (It links pro-western international elite figures advocating a formal structure for control of states by the "international community").

Okun was a member of a Task Force (including Bianca Jagger and George Soros) on war criminals: see their report . Although it also demands "UN Sanctions Against States Harboring Indicted War Criminals" it is unlikely that the Task Force members meant the man quoted at the start of their report, President Clinton.

A curiosity: this human rights supporter is accused of an attempt to destroy the right to free speech, in his post at the International Narcotics Control Board: see A Duty to Censor: U.N. Officials Want to Crack Down on Drug War Protesters in the libertarian Reason Magazine.

Jane Olson
Represents HRW Southern California on the main HRW Board, see her biography. One of the few who are simply human rights activists, although her views are clearly 100% acceptable to the US Government. She was appointed a member of the U.S. delegation to the 1991 Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) in Moscow. The biography notes that she "...participated in many investigation delegations to the former USSR, Yugoslavia, the Caucasus, Cuba, Vietnam and Cambodia". There is even a photo gallery: Jane with helmet in front of an armoured car in Bosnia, Jane at Tianmen Square, Jane in Red Square, Jane celebrates Ukrainian independence, Jane in Cambodia with Queen Noor of Jordan.
Again note, that US citizens consider it normal to travel to Europe, to decide on Europe's 'Security and Cooperation'. However, there is absolutely no equivalent "Conference on North American Security and Cooperation", where Europeans arrive, to tell Americans what to do. And no Bosnians are allowed to drive armoured vehicles around the United States.

Hannah Pakula
Author, member of the Freedom to Write Committee at PEN, the international writers organisation. Widow of film director Alan Pakula. Co-organiser of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival.
Kathleen Peratis
Also Chair of the HRW Women's Rights Advisory Committee. Lawyer in New York, see the biography. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom - Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, which campaigns for a dual-state solution in Israel. Also a Board Member at B'nai Jeshurun, "a Zionist congregation"
"Collectively and individually, BJ members love and support the State of Israel. The continuing violence in Israel deepens our commitment as it saddens our hearts. We pray together for peace. At the same time, we assume our obligation as sacred communities to take action that will both encourage ongoing dialogue about the situation and explore the myriad ways that we - collectively and individually - can support Israel fulfill the vision put forth in its Declaration of Independence."

Peratis bought her way onto the Committee, she is listed in the 1995 donor's list.

Barnett Rubin
Academic and Soros-institutes advisor. Director of the "Center for Preventive Action" at the Council on Foreign Relations. The center is funded by the US Government through USIP, and by the Carnegie Corporation as part of their program Preventing Deadly Conflict. "Preventive Action" means intervention.
He is a member of the centers South Balkans Working Group, and edited a 1996 Council on Foreign Relations study Towards Comprehensive Peace in Southeast Europe: Conflict Prevention in the South Balkans. Rubin is an Afghanistan specialist, also on the Board of the Asia division of HRW. He authored and edited several works on Afghanistan. Rubin apparently had a curious attitude to the Taliban, he saw them as a bulwark against Islamic radicalism. No doubt he changed his attitude after 11 September 2001. See this letter to NPR, entitled Afghanistan Whitewash:
While the Lyden-Rubin conversation made no mention of US support for the Taliban, they referred several times to US "pressure" on the Taliban to now respect human rights. This is a total white wash which distorts the historical record beyond recognition.

Rubin is on the Advisory Board of the Soros Foundation Central Eurasia Project. He is an advisor of the Forced Migration Project of Soros' Open Society Institute, and he is also on the Board of the Soros Humanitarian Fund for Tajikistan. Perhaps most interesting is that the U.S. Institute of Peace (a de facto government agency) gave him a grant to research "formation of a new state system in Central Eurasia".
Barnett Rubin articles on Central Asia

This may be repetitive, but note once again that there are absolutely no Foundations or Institutes in Central Asia, which pay people to design "new state systems" in North America. For people like Rubin "human rights" mean simply that the US designs the world. See this article at the Soros Central Asia site, The Political Economy of War and Peace in Afghanistan, advocating a de facto colonial government in Afghanistan financed by oil revenues. He wasn't talking about the present Karzai government, which meets the description, but about the Taliban regime. Although they might prefer to forget this now, western foreign policy circles did consider recognising the Taliban, in a sort of oil-for-sharia swop.

Rubin is also a member of the US State Department Advisory Committee on Religious Freedom Abroad. The Final Report of this Committee also sums up what the United States can do, when it finds religious freedom has been infringed. The list begins at "friendly, persuasive: open an embassy" and ends with "act of war".

Rubin was also involved in the 1997 New York meeting, where the United States attempted to create a unified Yugoslav opposition, with among others Vuk Draskovic. The effort failed at the time: the opposition never united until Milosevic fell.

Colette Shulman
Womens' rights specialist. Works for the US 'National Council for Research on Women', where she is editor of 'Women's Dialogue', a Russian-language magazine for Russian women. Does the Russian Federation have a national research council which publishes English-language magazines for American women? I doubt it: it is the American obsession to redesign the rest of the world, in detail.
Leon Sigal, also known as Lee Sigal
Director of the Northeast Asia Cooperative Security Project at the Social Science Research Council, specialist on North Korea, author of 'Disarming Strangers: Nuclear Diplomacy with North Korea'. It is not clear why he is on the Europe Advisory Committee, instead of the Asia committee. See his biography:
...member of the editorial board of The New York Times from 1989 until 1995. In 1979 he served as International Affairs Fellow in the Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs at the Department of State and in 1980 as Special Assistant to the Director. He was a Rockefeller Younger Scholar in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution from 1972-1974 and a guest scholar there in 1981-1984. From 1974 to 1989 he taught international politics at Wesleyan University as a professor of government. He was an adjunct professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs from 1985 to 1989 and from 1996 to 2000, and visiting lecturer at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School in 1988 and 2000.

Sigal is a member of the Board of Advisors at Globalbeat Syndicate, part of the New York University Dept of Journalism.

Malcolm Smith
Senior Consultant, former President, at General American Investors Company, Inc.
George Soros
In some ways the 'Osama bin Laden' of the human rights movement - a rich man using his wealth, to spread his values across the world. See this overview of his role in Eastern Europe: George Soros: New Statesman Profile (Neil Clark, June 2003). The Public Affairs site gives this short biography of George Soros, chief financier of HRW and of numerous organisations in eastern Europe with pro-American, pro-market policies.
George Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1930. In 1947 he emigrated to England, where he graduated from the London School of Economics. While a student in London, Mr. Soros became familiar with the work of the philosopher Karl Popper, who had a profound influence on his thinking and later on his philanthropic activities. In 1956 he moved to the United States, where he began to accumulate a large fortune through an international investment fund he founded and managed.

Mr. Soros currently serves as chairman of Soros Fund Management L.L.C., a private investment management firm that serves as principal investment advisor to the Quantum Group of Funds. The Quantum Fund N.V., the oldest and largest fund within the Quantum Group, is generally recognized as having the best performance record of any investment fund in the world in its twenty-nine-year history.

Mr. Soros established his first foundation, the Open Society Fund, in New York in 1979 and his first Eastern European foundation in Hungary in 1984. He now funds a network of foundations that operate in thirty-one countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union, as well as southern Africa, Haiti, Guatemala, Mongolia and the United States. These foundations are dedicated to building and maintaining the infrastructure and institutions of an open society. Mr. Soros has also founded other major institutions, such as the Central European University and the International Science Foundation. In 1994, the foundations in the network spent a total of approximately $300 million; in 1995, $350 million; in 1996, $362 million; and in 1997, $428 million. Giving for 1998 is expected to be maintained at that level.

Privatization Project

Open Society Institute Budapest

Marco Stoffel
Founder and director of the Third Millennium Foundation. Although it sounds harmless, the Foundation promotes a pseudo-ethical theory aimed at children, in which morality is reduced to 'empathy'. It also funds some human rights research.
Ruti Teitel
Professor of Constitutional Law at the New York Law School, see his biography. In the last few years he has specialised in the Constitutions of eastern European countries, and advised on the new Ukrainian constitution.
Mark von Hagen
Director of the Harriman Institute - an International Relations institute of Columbia University in New York. A Soviet and post-Soviet specialist, with a long list of publications, see his profile at the institute website.

Patricia M. Wald
US Judge, appointed to the Yugoslavia Tribunal (ICTY) in The Hague, until 2001. See this interview. Incidentally, the Soros Foundation also paid for the equipment of the Tribunal - so much for its judicial impartiality.
Mark Walton
This is apparently a British specialist in human rights and mental health, but I can not link him definitively to HRW.
William D. Zabel
George Soros legal advisor, on foundation and charity law. A estate and family financial lawyer for the rich at Schulte, Roth, and Zabel. His biography lists his involvement with these Soros Foundations: "Newly Independent States and the Baltic Republics, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Central European University and Open Society Fund". See this biographical article originally from the National Law Journal:
When fate knocks, rich ring for Zabel
He is a trustee of Fanton's New School of Social Research, and member of the Advisory Board of the World Policy Institute at the New School.

Zabel is a director of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights. The Lawyers Committee for Human Rights is one of the partners in the "Apparel Industry Partnership", a group set up by the Clinton administration and the US clothing and footwear industries to defuse criticism of conditions in their factories. The (not particularly radical) US trade union federation refuses to co-operate with it.

Zabel is also on the Board of Doctors of the World, the USA branch of Médecins du Monde, founded by Bernard Kouchner in 1980. Kouchner was later appointed the UN Representative ( the "governor") in Kosovo - and he has been suggested as a possible 'UN Governor' in Iraq. Despite the name, Médecins du Monde is a purely western organisation, see the affiliate list.

Warren Zimmermann
US Ambassador to Yugoslavia during its break-up, author of Origins of Catastrophe: Yugoslavia and Its Destroyers. A Cold-War career diplomat, long active in US human rights campaigns against eastern Europe. See this site for an extreme pro-Bosniac assessment of his book by Branka Magas, alleging he appeased Milosevic: "In the event, by pursuing Yugoslavia's unity rather than supporting Slovenia and Croatia in their demands for either the country's confederal transformation or its peaceful dissolution, the United States helped ensure its violent break-up". (I think it is logically consistent with US values and interests, that the US supported one policy around 1990 and another in Kosovo. The real problem is that so many people in Europe expect the US to design their states and write their Constitutions. It is because of this attitude, that people like Zimmermann, and organisations like HRW, can flourish) Zimmermann is now a professor of Diplomacy at Columbia University. If you think the 'amoral diplomat' is a stereotype, look at how his 1997 Contemporary Diplomacy course taught future diplomats:
Imagine that you are a member of Secretary Albright's Policy Planning Staff. She has asked you to write a strategy paper for one of the following diplomatic challenges:
- Dealing with NATO expansion and with the countries affected;
- Crafting a more energetic and assertive US approach to the Israeli-PLO deadlock;
-Raising the American profile in sub-Saharan Africa;
- Developing a US initiative to improve relations with Cuba;
- Forging an American approach to Central Asia and its energy wealth;
- Making better use of the UN and other multilateral organizations like OSCE;
- Weighing the relative priorities between pursuing human rights and keeping open lucrative economic opportunities;
- Increasing interest in, and support for, US foreign policy among the American people.

With Barnett Rubin, Zimmermann is a member of the Advisory Board of the Forced Migration Project at Soros Open Society Institute.

With Felice Gaer, Zimmermann is also on the Board of the quasi-commercial International Dispute Resolution Associates. (Peacemaking has become big business, but IDR is also funded by the US Government through the USIP).

He is a Trustee of the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HRW Council
The Human Rights Watch 'Council' is primarily a fund-raising group. However, its members no doubt expect some influence on HRW policy, for their $5 000 minimum donation. The Council describes itself as "...an international membership organization that seeks to increase awareness of human rights issues and support for Human Rights Watch."
At first Council membership was secret, but the list is now online: it partly overlaps with Board and Advisory Committee members. The interesting thing about the Council is that it shows how much HRW is not international. It is Anglo-American, to the point of caricature. The Council is sub-divided onto four 'regional committees'. You might expect a division by continents (the Americas, Africa, Europe and Asia-Pacific). But instead the 'regions' of the HRW global community are New York, Northern California, Southern California, and London. There is also a three-person 'Europe Committee At-Large' but it does not appear to organise any activities.

Although Human Rights Watch claims to act in the name of universal values, it is an organisation with a narrow social and geographical base. If HRW Council members were truly concerned about the welfare of Africans, Tibetans or eastern Europeans, then they would at least offer them an equal chance to influence the organisation. Instead, geographical location and the high cost restrict Council Membership to the US and British upper-middle-class.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HRW Donors
Taken from an older version of the HRW website, this 1995 list is apparently the only information available. In the United States, HRW is not legally obliged to disclose who donates money. About half its funds come from foundations, and half from individual donors, in total about $20 million.
In its Annual Reports, HRW always claims that it "accepts no government funds, directly or indirectly." However, that was a lie according to the 1995 list, and it is still a lie. The Dutch Novib - now part of the Oxfam group - is a government-funded aid organisation, and in turn it funded the activities of Human Rights Watch Africa in the Great Lakes region and Angola. Oxfam itself is primarily funded by the British government and the European Union, see their annual report. It is also funded by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID. Oxfam in turn partly funds Novib, so some of that money finds it way to HRW. Both Oxfam and Novib funded the HRW report on the Rwanda genocide. So, if it is as accurate as HRW's claim not to accept any indirect government funding, look elsewhere for the truth.

Reply (3.) to Svetovid & Co., Jan. 7, 2008,

Your statement about Jasterbarsko, greatly concerned me and I simply find it very difficult to believe.
First, you mention children and second, you mention nuns. To me, this would be more an Orphanage and less a concentration camp!
I have tried to contact some people that lived in the area at that time, that is, during the 2nd world war 1940-45. I was able to contact few that were able to recall the war years that they have endured. All remembered very hard times, destruction, death, great famine and despair . When I asked them about Jasterbarsko, I was told it was all Yugo communist propaganda against Croatia.

Looking at the propaganda regarding the present historical period 1990 - 96 in Croatian history, knowing Croatians as people but most of all children loving people, knowing how nuns and clergy are helping and have help in the recent past I am compelled to believe that the Jasterbarsko was not a concentration camp. I believe that we should re examine this part of our history, written by the same people that are bent to destroy us in every which way.

You mentioned that you were exonerated for crimes committed in Srebrenica, the UN safe protected area, where your, Serbian troups, murdered thousands of civilians, under watchful eye of the same people that offered futile protection to these poor civilians. What do you call this court? Court of Justice or politically motivated unjust court? The appeal is forthcoming and the case is not over. Not that you did not try your best to avert the justice, but God willing the truth will win.

Knowing how you have manipulated and misrepresented our past, and looking at the same thing happening today, I believe we should dedicate all our time and the strength to deter you and your ways which would lead again to the fact that the victim Croatia, will be again portrayed as a villain, giving you a free hand to kill again.

The fact of the Serbian aggression 1990 – 1995 remains:
Serbia aggressed, Serbian side committed more then 95 % of most awful crimes (confirmed by CIA) and thousands of these so called courts will not ease your conscience and erase the terrible facts! Burdened with your quilt, you will always try to erase it with new reason in order to commit new crimes. Once you accept the guilt, repent, God is merciful and he forgives. Perhaps then and only then, through repenting you will be able to stop this hate that is tearing your heart and then, you may get the chance to get to know the wonderful potential of building and creating that you may have missed all this time.

May God help you find your way through Little Jesus, born today, according to your calendar.

I take this opportunity to wish all Orthodox Christians, Merry Christmas and ask them to pray that the wars of the past never happen again.

Marija

The Unspoken Truth

Good on you Marija. I am sick of all this bullshit propaganda aimed at croatians.

I will never forget what the serbs did in places like Lovas, Vukovar, Bacin and
Skabrnja just to name a few of the many attrocities committed by these satantic creatures, which also includes concentration camps such as the ones in Bosanski Samac where the prisoners were not only Croats but also Muslims, Albanians and other people who were not of Serbian nationality.

May all the victims (for whom there still isnt justice as Serbian war criminals Mladic and Karadzic are still walking free) rest in peace!

Thompson is not a hater

Thompson's songs have nothing to do with Hitler, or Jews, not even Serbs.
Thompson is one singer who started his carreer during serbian agression on Croatia. His songs are mainly about family, love, religion, no antisemitism, or anything..Song "My people"-E moj narode, is not a nazy song, it is a song that talks about neo-communists, and these are our own political problems in Croatia that have nothing to do with anyone but ourselves.

Thank you very much

FOOD FOR YOUR THOUGH about Serbian lies

Dobrica Cosic Former Yugoslav (Serbian) President

“We lie to deceive ourselves, to console others; we lie for mercy, we lie to fight fear, to encourage ourselves, to hide our and somebody else’s misery. We lie for love and honesty. We lie because freedom. The lie is the trait of our patriotism and the proof of our innate smartness. We lie creatively, imaginatively, inventively.”
