CC Sabathia is Now CC Cy Young

CC Sabathia has done something no Cleveland Indians player has done since 1972. He has won the American League Cy Young Award. The last Indian to accomplish the feat was spit-ball legend and Hall of Fame hurler Gaylord Perry. Sabathia was able to edge out Boston Red Sox's 20 game winner Josh Beckett

The Indians left-hander had his finest season in his 7 year career posting a 19-7 record with 209 strikeouts, a 3.21 ERA, and hurled 241 for the American League Central Champs. While the regular season was spectacular, Sabathia has faced severe criticism from Cleveland Indians fans for his poor showing in the playoffs which included zero wins in their American League Championship loss.

While breaking the 35 year jinx of not having Cy Young winner is great for the Cleveland Indians, the fact that Sabathia is a free agent after the 2008 season will leave the club with a tough choice at the end of next season. Barry Zito's seven-year deal with the San Francisco Giants worth $126 million at the end of last season has probably made Sabathia's value rise through the charts. The Indians will have to debate keeping the 28 year at a high price or hope that he signs a home team discount.
