Microsoft Does Something Cool for a Change

Has the world turned upside down? Microsoft has actually unleashed something (gasp) that is cool. With the launch of the Microsoft Zune 2.0, the company, long know for stale and outdated offerings, has come up with a very cool concept. Zune Social is the name and lets users, whether they use Microsoft's answer to Apple's iPod, a chance to let them peer into what you are listening to at the moment. Kind of like a MySpace for music geeks, the social network will display the music that you have uploaded for the whole world to see.

The online community, which is free, will allow users to sample songs (30 seconds) and will give statistics of what people have in their headphones.

The new Zune was released this week and is getting better marks then its predecessor which was panned by tech junkies. So, is Apple shaking in its boots yet? Probably not, but with innovation on the upswing they better not look behind because Microsoft seems to want to catch up.
