2008 Presidential Debate Sites Revealed
In a statement issued today, presidential debate commission co-chairs Paul G. Kirk Jr. and Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr. announced the sites of the 2008 general election debates. Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and New York all snagged a debate.
The three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate will take place as follows:
- Presidential Debate: Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 @ University of Mississippi. Oxford, MS.
- Vice Presidential Debate: Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 @ Washington University. St. Louis, MO.
- Presidential Debate: Thursday, Oct. 7, 2008 @ Belmost University. Nashville, TN.
- Presidential Debate: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 @ Hofstra University. Hempstead, NY.
Two back up locations were also chosen, with those being Kentucky and North Carolina. The city of New Orleans in Louisiana had their hopes dashed, having campaigned hard to get one of the debates in their city.
Fahrenkopf said that the comission's search process picked out what they thought were the best sites:
"We went out of our way with New Orleans. We sent the team back a second time. We try to pick he best four. There are 12 universities who are disappointed."
The October 7, 2008 debate will be in the town hall format. In a town hall debate format, the two party nominees answer questions from the audience, and for the first time, questions submitted by people online will be accepted.
The remaining two presidential debates will be more traditional in nature, but with a new twist. They will be divided into eight ten-minute "issue" segments to provide a more serious discussion.

Excellent!
Once again, the two major parties have collaborated to control the "debate" process! Funded, of course, with millions from big corporate donors. Awesome! Democracy rocks!
Presidential debate locations
St. Louis is on the Mississippi. All other sites, including alternates, are east of the Mississippi. This is not a geographic balance.

Are they all writing off the West?
debates
Forget the debates, neither Hillary or Obama are worthy to occupy the Oval Office. Political party affilation aside, the only person qualified to be the next president of the United States is Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico.
Morally bankrupt
The exclusion of New Orleans , and the ridiculous excuses given for that exclusion, show how morally bankrupt the political system of this so called country is. I give up. This country isn't worth the fight anymore.
Excited?
I seem to be the only one on there that is excited about this, but as a student of one of these universities, I'm anticipating this debate intensely. It will be an experience of a lifetime!

Wow...I can't believe there are two in the South and not a single one within half a continent of the West Coast. They are framing the audience response before the candidates are nominated. so tell me this election isn't already bought and paid for?
