LeBron James Also Proves That He's The King of Charity

LeBron James used his celebrity status tonight to give something back to the community. He treated 800 local residents, many of which were homeless families, to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the Quicken Loans Arena. Following the dinner, which was complete with all the fixings, attendees were treated to a movie.

In past years James gave out turkeys, but this year he went all out. In addition to the hearty meal and movie, each of the families were presented with with gift cards for free groceries and free transportation passes.

Following the meal, the families also got to experience red carpet treatment as they were escorted along a red carpet to Tower City Cinemas just down the street. At the theater, they were treated to a special screening of "Alvin and the Chipmunks", a 20th Century Fox film not in theaters until December 14.

James, who in past years has given away turkeys, also presented the families with gift cards for free groceries during the holidays along with free transportation passes. The event was sponsored by the LeBron James Family Foundation.

James, 22, who grew up in nearby Akron, said that he was touched by the event:

"It's great to see the smiles on kids' faces. That's the most important thing to me. It really means a lot to them and it's special for me."

He continued, saying:

"It's kind of overwhelming. I'm in a position where I'm able to do things like this. It's not like I have to, it's because I want to. I know I can't fulfill every kid's dream. But I'm thankful I can do something like this, especially during the holidays."

LeBron James was also joined at the event by teammates Shannon Brown, Coach Mike Brown, and General Manager Danny Ferry. They treated the kids to a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Cavs' locker room.

The event was sponsored by LeBron James Family Foundation, who also held a similar event for preselected families in Akron on Sunday.
