Earl Paulk at the Center of New Southern Megachurch Sex Scandal
Archbishop Earl Paul at the Chapel Hill Harvester Church located just outside Atlanta is at the center of a new sex scandal set to rock the megachurch. Paulk's family stood in front of their parish a few Sundays ago and revealed his dirty secret: their 80-year-old leader had years earlier slept with his brother's wife and fathered a child by her.
The secret was exposed by a recent court-ordered paternity test, and although this is not Paulk or the church's first brush with scandal, Paulk could find himself in trouble with the law this time for lying under oath about the affair.
Proof of the affair and lie is Paulk's 34-year-old son, D.E. Paulk, who was known for years publicly as his nephew. D.E. Paulk said that he did not know that Earl Paulk was his father until the paternity test: "I was disappointed, and I was surprised," he said.
Earl Paulk was ordered to take the paternity test at the request of the Cobb County district attorney's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Both agencies are currently investigating Earl Paulk for potential perjury and false-swearing charges that stem from a lawsuit.
The church, Archbiship Earl Paulk, and his brother are being sued by a former employee, Mona Brewer. Brewer claims that Paulk manipulated her into an affair from 1989 to 2003 by telling her it was her only path to salvation. Paulk, standing in front of his church, admitted to the affair last January. In a 2006 deposition related to the lawsuit, Paulk said under oath that the only woman he had ever slept with outside of his marriage was Brewer. However, the paternity test proved otherwise.
According to D.E. Paulk, the results of the paternity test are quickening a transformation that has already been underway in the church after more than a decade of sex scandals and various lawsuits involving the Paulks.
At its high point in the 1990's, the church boasted more than 10,000 members and 24 pastors. Today, they have 1,500 members and 18 pastors. The church was started in 1960 with only a few dozen members in the Little Five Points neighborhood of Atlanta. Flash-forward to today, and its now located in the suburbs on a 100-acre lot, with a collection of buildings surrounding a neo-Gothic cathedral.
Back in 1992, a member of the church claimed she was pressured into a sexual relationship with Don Paulk, and other members of the church claimed to have been coerced into sex with Earl Paulk, as well as other members of the church's administration. In retaliation, the church countered their claims with a $24 million libel lawsuit again seven former church members, which was later dropped.
With the latest Paulk family transgression revealed for all the world to see, D.E. Paulk is hoping that they will soon be able to put all of the scandals behind them.
"I am so very sorry for the collateral damage it's caused our family and the families hurt by the removing of the veil that hid our humanity and our sinfulness," said D.E. Paulk, who was named a head pastor at the church one year ago.
Some former members of the church have likened it to a "cult". Jan Royston, a former member, began an online support group for former members to discuss their hurt feelings and crushed faith.

Earl Paulk at the Center of New Southern Megachurch Sex Scandal
My heart goes out to the people who were hurt and abused. Unfortunately, people are very fragile and once a crime is committed, once someone has been hurt, there can be no real justice: no one can take away the hurt once it has been doled out.
There is still love, however, and humility. And the courage needed to pick yourself up from the hurt and walk on, forgiving.
Earl Paulk
The people involved with Paulk and that church deserve exactly what they get! Paulk has been know for his deeds by the Atlanta christian community since he was pastor of Hemphill Church of God back in the 50's
That SOB is just plain EVIL
God is Holy!
God will clean ALL evil and seperate that from His true church. We must continue to read the Bible and ask God for discernment at these end-times. Remember just living any way will not allow us to make it to heaven or live victorious here now. Evil will be exposed for just what it is and who it is.
God is a Holy God and that is what He expects from us. We can walk in the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit, but the proof is in how we live behind close doors.
I encourage people to read the word of God for themselves and know who God truly is.
Do not be fooled by the junk that will come out at this time of wash-day.
Bishop Earl Paulk
You sound very bitter. You should really sit back and check yourself. We are not to judge lest we are to be judged. The man had a calling on his life. And he did many great works though he has sinned. I am not making any excuses for his wrongful actions at all. What he did was very sinful, but God will handle it. There is no one on earth, who could cast stones at this man because of the sins that has transpired for we all have sinned. Does the degree of sin matter to God?
You don't appear to have very much compassion, and let's make it clear that you represent a very bitter, selfish being... YOU!
Help
There is help for guys like Earl Poulk at Sex Addicts Anonymous or Love and Sex Addicts Anonymous. God may forgive, but people don't. The church shoots their wounded, the place where people go for inspiration, the bar-room of the codependent. The reason why people don't confess sin at a church before they're discovered is that no one moves up the evangelical food chain exposing it. Hire theologians from seminaries, and become evangelical Roman Catholics. But don't hire a recovered pervert--what would he know? Funny how some "ho" from a well in Samaria converted more of her ex-lovers than did all the rabbis at the Synagogue. Earl has always been blind leading the blind. He doesn't have a story to tell, and the ones who flock to him are as sick as he is.
This is no surprise. Big
This is no surprise. Big business churches are all about scandal. When a big money business brain rapes people with ancient superstition and calls it holy, what can one expect? There are so many weak minds that believe ministers actually know more than they do about a subject that no living being knows anything about, that it makes them a dependent population that is easy to manipulate and take advantage of.It's no wonder Dante reserved his lowest, hottest ring of Hell for preachers!
EARL PAULK
Yea!!! You sound like a real scholar, lol. I'm sure there's a even hotter place reserved for idiots like you!
AMEN
AMEN
PAULK - NOW WHAT!
OK it's done. How do the believers recover? First, acknowledge that they had a blind case of pastor worship. The Bible warns against this very thing!
These folks have been accepting it for years like sheep to the slaughter. One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is the gift of "Discernment". Those who claim to be "living in the spirit", must reacess their beliefs. If truly in the Spirit, where has your ability to discern been? SO NOW WHAT?
ASAP END THE DYNASTY!!!!!!! UNTIL YOU'VE DONE THAT
YOUR CHURCH IS BEYOND GOD'S SIGHT & BLESSINGS!
A Paulk Ministry is no longer culpable. It is your church, take it back remembering what the Bible says about the sins of the father. Sweep Clean!
Personally, I would find another church. One filled with the true spirit of God.
My Brothers & Sisters, I wish you well!
All I can do is weep. No
All I can do is weep. No matter what anyone can say to me, back when I moved to ATL in 1995, this church pulled me through some very depressing situations. And for all these various scandals.....this is the devils work....all we can do now is pray. Pray for the Paulk family, pray for the church, pray for all those who found God through this ministry. Pray!
???
Why does everyone call anything that goes bad at churches the devil? I think Christians and I am a christian, blames WAAYYY too much on the devil. The Devil has no authority OR power to work in any area of your life unless YOU allow him to and this is through your flesh and carnality. In this case, it appears yes, the enemy worked through the flesh and carnality of church leadership but it was by THEIR CHOICES! Why do you think we have a free will?? TheWILL TO choose life or death, blessings or curses. The power lies with the person and their choices. This is a case of the church leadership now reaping what has been sown all these years. God is allowing the truth to finally be yelled from the rooftops. Yes, pray for everyone. I assure you, God WILL judge between HIS own. IF they will follow the word in all their actions, justice will be sweet.
Too much money and power
Christians are being robbed blind. The tithe is null and void in this day and time. Filthy thieving ministers robbing even poor people of 10% of their disability and social security checks, and making them feel bad with Mal. 3:10 if they don't fork it over. If some of these preachers didn't have so much money, maybe they wouldn't be so attractive to their congregants. People please read your Bibles, and use a concordance, for goodness' sake! You can find concordances free online. Give your money to the sick and poor, instead of these jackleg preachers!
Too much money and power
Who says that tithing is null and void? YOU!!! You need to read your Bible a little better.Tithing is and always has been a principle of God, in the old and new testament. Read Mat.23:23. Jesus said we ought to love more, have more mercy, be more faithful...practice all these without forgetting to do the other (TITHE). You sound bitter and you need to reconsider.
The tithe is obsolete! The
The tithe is obsolete! The verse you have taken out of context is Jesus speaking to the Pharisees, who were under the law. The tithe was ONLY for the Levitical priests, and the tithe was never, ever money. Read Duet.14:21 to the end. Once again people are believing they are cursed because they don't tithe...I guess it all depends on us giving and not Jesus' death and resurrection. FYI Abraham tithed the spoils of the war (which was a pagan practice). There is no record of him tithing any thing of his own.
