"Sweet" Caroline Kennedy: Neil Diamond Reveals Famous Inspiration

Have you ever wondered what in the world Neil Diamond was singing about when he crooned the song "Sweet Caroline" Well, today, the world knows what his inspiration was when he sang "Sweet Caroline, good times never seem so good". So who exactly was Caroline? None other than Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of JFK. And no, they didn't have some kind of love affair. Diamond said that he wrote the song after seeing a “innocent, wonderful” of the girl 40 years ago.

He told her on her 50th birthday and she was happy with the news. Who wouldn't be? The song has truly endured the test of time. Here is what he said when she heard the news:

“It was a No. 1 record and probably is the biggest, most important song of my career, and I have to thank her for the inspiration. I’m happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline,” says Diamond. “I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy.”
