Were These Comments by Atlanta Falcons Owner Arthur Blank Racist?

Is Arthur Blank the 2008 Al Campanis? Blank is under fire for saying that quarterback Michael Vick has to "lay off the fried chicken" if he wants to return to the NFL after his prison term is up.

Here is the video:

So, do you think that Blank is racist or did he just use a poor choice of words?

Comments

he is not a racist because

he is not a racist because he has shown nothing but love for Vick. He has supported him through this whole debaccle. He could have said any food, but he just happened to pick fried chicken that does not signify any racism at all.

are you serious?

This seems to be blown WAY out of proportion to me. Fried chicken is one of Vick's favorite foods. Blank and Vick used to have a great relationship and often had dinner together.
The stereotype that all black people like fried chicken is to blame here obviously.
I doubt Blank meant anything by it.

Blank the Racist

Sometimes they think they can say whatever they want. What really sickens me is the people who can't see the racist intent in that comment. I don't care if they were close or not, there is no need for a corporate mogul to perpetuate a stereotype like that. He is the owner of one of the biggest businesses in America, so your going to tell me that a person who is in the public eye, constantly speaking to people doesn't no how to choose his words wisely? That's Bull&*$%!!

racist comment

I believe a person can make a racist comment and not necessarily be a racist.

I don't know the extent of the closeness of the relationship. If they are close and he knows that Vick eats fried chicken all the time (favorite),then it is what it is. But having said that, if he doesn't know him to eat chicken anymore than anyone else, why did he choose fried chicken when he could have said anything. He is a smart man. He is in the presence of African American men all the time. He should be wise enough to know what to say and how to say it. Come on he is the owner. Be an example to your players in how to think and speak when talking to the media.

Arthur Blank's comment

I think what he said is really a slander against fried chicken (and fries, which he also mentioned). I'm sure that living in the south has shown him that those are 2 of the 'bad foods of choice'. Had they been in say New York City, he probably would have said pizza...in Philly, cheesesteaks, etc. Nothing racist about it. Leave the guy alone, he's stood behind Vick in ALL of his stupidity, which is a great example to all of us.
