Kellen Winslow to Penthouse: Cleveland Browns Changing Uniforms Next Year

If you are going to go by the word of the "Soldier" Kellen Winslow, the Cleveland Browns are set to change their uniforms next season.

The gifted, if somewhat mentally imbalanced, tight end told the mens magazine Penthouse:

Penthouse: The Browns have never significantly changed their uniforms design. But when your name is the Browns, what can you really do with that?

The Soldier's Answer : You know what? We're in the process of changing all that. Next year, you're gonna see some new uniforms for the Cleveland Browns. This is really a big part of what Braylon Edwards and I have been talking about for a long time. It may be something similar to what the Broncos have. It's time for a change. Sometimes people live in the past in Cleveland. That's fine, but this team is trying to build an identity and start up something new.

Kellen, did that motorcycle accident do something other than damage your knees? The Cleveland Browns will change their uniforms the same day that the New York Yankees change their traditional jerseys. It will not happen no matter how much Braylon Edwards wants that. Although the Browns should lose that silly Al Lerner emblem on their sleeves, which only reminds true Browns fans that it was on his plane that the agreement to move the team was signed on.

Do Not Change

Randy Leaner, do not change the uniforms of the Browns. The tirdition is strong and that is what the fans relate to.

The uniform was good enough

The uniform was good enough for Jim Brown. Therefore, it is by far good enough for the "soldier" and anyone else. Stick to playing hard for a tradition, not changing it to make it yours. The Cleveland Browns are a gift to football. Why do you think so many teams are having "throw-back day" uniforms. The uniform must stay the same. Do not change it!!!
You cannot put a price on tradition. Once you change the uniform, it will continue to change every 10-20 years. The Bengals changed and now no one remembers why Paul Brown made them look almost like the Browns. That was a great tradition that would have continued to foster the rivalry. Everyone agrees that owners, players, and coaches come and go. However, the unwritten tradition of the Browns will go as well, if not protected against short term thinking and financial gain.

NO NEW UNI's!!!

The browns should stay away from breaking tradition and keep the unforms as they are ready are. The city of Cleveland faught really hard to keep the Browns identity intact. if the Browns go the way of the Bronco with a more modern look, its taking away the blue collar feel of the team. As a fan i only as a few things when it comes to the look of the team. 1. dont put a logo on the helmets ever 2. dont touch the classic look of the franchise. If the team wants to implement an alternate like they did a few years back, sure i can kind of understand that. But dont ditch the classic uniform set.

Don't change and soldier

Don't change and soldier shut up. You don't know the history here. Go play for Baltimore you punk.

Browns need a Change people

Dude you're a Jacka$$ why don't you go to baltimore and leave Winslow here! The guys a beast the Browns have been in need of a tweaking for years, The unis they have now reflect losing and many bad teams. the Browns "Glory years" were the late 40s to the early 60s and 3 yrs in the 80's. they are not changing the helmet just a few tweaks to the uni. Hell if you whinners had it your way we'd still be in white helmets

Similar to the Broncos?

Can't wait for another team in Rollerball Uniforms

KEEP THE UNIFORMS!!

PLEASE, keep the same uniforms we have pretty much always had! If Braylon and Kellen love being a Cleveland Brown the way they say they do, then they should just shut up, and play ball! That would be like the Packers or Cowboys changing their uni's... tradition should mean something!!

Do not change the uniform.

Winslow clearly doesn't like the Browns uniforms. Both times the team has worn their 1957-59 throwbacks, Winslow was only player not wearing the traditional striped socks. Hopefully he was fined. Winslow and Edwards should feel honored and privileged to wear the uniform of Browns greats of the past. What have they done to merit a say in the uniform design? I'm a rock-solid Browns traditionalist. If it came down to losing the traditional uniform or losing Edwards and Winslow, I'd keep the uniform.

Get with the Program

Seriously, I've been a Browns fan my entire life and I've always thought the uniforms could use a change to something more contemporary. I mean, look at some of the throwback this year and you can see the Packers and Eagles, two of the oldest teams in the NFL, even changed their colors. I would change the colors to purple and black (I know those are Baltimore's colors but, admit it, those are awesome uniforms). In order to keep a uniform that is truly unique, I would make the jerseys and pants pinstriped. It would also be cool if we put the team name on the back of the uniform, instead of player names. We would be the only team in the NFL with pinstripes and would still have the most original uniforms in the league. I would keep the team name the Browns though.

New Uniforms?

There are a lot of things the Browns can do to their uniforms and not end up looking dated like the Broncos. I happened to like the orange alternates from a few years back. I can see going with a 3-D effect on the numbers. But any change should look "traditional", and not like something the Oregon Ducks or Miami Hurricanes would wear.

put the elf on the helmet!!

put the elf on the helmet!!

elf on the browns helmet.

I feel the Browns need to put the brownie elf on their helmets. It's time to have that logo as their main logo. It brought them luck in the forties, fifties, and sixties, you know, when they were good. All the NFL teams have nice logos except for the browns. They look poor,Like they can't afford a logo.Look,I was born and raised in Cleveland. The city is so hung up on the word "tradition" that's why that city is so far behind in everything. The owner of the Browns needs to wake up and get with the times.

browns unis

the browns just need a little tweaking thats it. keep the helmet the same take the stripes off the jerseys outline the numbers in grey, put the brownie logo on the shoulder, and make the pants grey(like the ny giants did) and use 2 browns stripes w/ a white one in the middle. thats it...no modern crap..atlanta ugly, denver ugly, buffalo holy crap get my drift?

Cleveland Needs a Change!

The team has been infused with a shot of new youth and vibrance and so should the uniforms. Sure, we had some good teams with those uniforms, but, like Phil Savage said when he came in here, most of those memories are in black and white. Let's move on now that we have a solid group of core players and a team that is built for the future and make the change. This could possibly be the next great Browns team and it should have it's own identity. In fact, I have a lot of HORRIBLE memories of those uniforms. Anyone remember, Mike Phipps, Paul McDonald, 'The Drive', 'The Fumble', Mike Oliphant, Mike Junkin, Tim Couch, 'Bottlegate', Gerard Warren, 'The Steel City Meltdown',............should I go on???? There are a TON of BAD memories wrapped up in those uniforms as well. Let's make a clean break from the past as this team moves onto a more successful future!

It's this same mentality that has held Cleveland back as a city as well. I love the city, but it's mindset infuriates me at times!

“Change is the essence of life.Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.”

Absolutely correct!!!

It seems to me that when teams change their uniforms, it changes their fortunes as well. How can we wear a throwback that looks like the same thing we already wear? You people and your "don't change tradition" are hysterical!! What tradition? Otto Graham and/or Marion Motley? They wore a WHITE helmet!! What tradition? Jim Brown? Do you think if they wear a uniform like his that they'll play like his team did? Has that worked in the 40 years since he last played here? After him, our only "tradition" has mostly been LOSING!!! I agree that the helmet should not be touched, being that IT IS THE TEAM LOGO!!! The elf should be prominently displayed on the field and sold more, but not placed on the uniform. The jersey and pants don't need a drastic change AT ALL!! A classy and modern look would be a brown jersey with white numbers, possibly trimmed in a thin orange pinstripe, a thick orange stripe down the side that continues down the leg to a solid orange stripe around the calf. The orange stripe down the leg would be trimmed with a brown pinstripe on either side of the orange stripe. The pants could be white, but I believe that a very light tan as I have seen on some leather team jackets would be awesome. I use that particular color scheme on Madden, and it looks great. The white jersey would reverse the colors of the numbers and shirt, but remain exactly the same. C'mon, folks! You gotta be kidding!!

Uniform Change

How about adding "Property of the Pittsburgh Steelers" ?

a squeak of a tweak

Colors: Keep, maybe make the orange a little darker, more saturated.

Helmet: DO NOT CHANGE!

Jersey: DO NOT CHANGE!

Pants: I like the Orange pants we used a few years ago. So it goes, orange, brown, orange. A lot of color on the field.

If they change anything, change the away jerseys. Keep the same colors, just change up where they go on everything. Hell, make the helmet white. I don't mind away being different. Don't change home. If you do, make it a squeak of a tweak.

uniforms

I'd like to see Brown pants with white jerseys sometimes. Just have more variety but same color schemes. No NFL Europe schemes, I agree. Bills, Broncos, Falcons look terrible.

KEEP IT CLASSY

If we change the uniforms anything beyond their basic design, we are falling away from the reason we got the team back as the Browns. If you hate the colors or the jerseys, you obviously wouldn't have cared if Cleveland got itself a completely different team in 1999. The orange alternates were not terrible, the Kardiac Kids' orange pants were amazing, but the classic basics of white pants with white and brown tops is essential to proving that we are unwilling to give up as a city. Don't be Bengals. Don't be Ravens. Be Browns. Our colors tribute the kindness of Bowling Green's letting our team use their fields. Our helmets represent an era of greatness. Our tradition is the all-time most loving, devoted set of fans. We have had bad times in these uniforms, sure... but we have also had good times. Minor detail-based changes are fine. But I should be able to wear a jersey from nearly any year and have any past present or future fan know from a distance that I support the Cleveland Browns. Don't let this be 1984 all over again. Uniform updates are not worth it. They could be disasterous...

the browns will never change

the browns will never change their uniforms other than minor adjustment to stripes, etc. live with it.

The Browns aren't doing

The Browns aren't doing anything crazy to their uniforms. White jerseys w/ white pants are simply boring as all can be. They should incorporate brown pants and orange pants to be mixed and matched with white, brown, orange jerseys. Lots of intriguing combos there. The storied tradtion of the 49ers changed up their uni's for a more modern look. if you ask me were a few years late. I'm sure we will do something similar to san fran keeping the general idea and not going to say who shot the couch like bengals, buffalo, seattle....

Browns Uniform Change

The Browns ARE adjusting their uniforms TONIGHT! They are going to be wearing dark brown pants.
As a fan since the 50's......I'd like to see a more modern uniform. Sometimes little things can change a mindset.
Look at Bowling Green's uniform now. It's modernized. It was THEIR uniform that Paul Brown used for the Cleveland Browns.
Change is not a bad thing. I hope they don't stop with the brown pants. I'd like to see a real change/upgrade.
CHANGE DIDN'T HURT THE BRONCOS.
GO BROWNS!!!!!!! GO BIG DAWGS!!!!!!!!
ps....."DAWGS" has been a change in and of itself.
