Work Begins on Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital in UAE

The official groundbreaking for the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) hospital was held over the weekend on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates' capital city. The facility, which is scheduled to welcome its first patients in early 2011, will be a unique extension of the Cleveland Clinic model, who will play a vital role in the success and operation of the hospital.

CCAD will be a 360-bed (scalable to 490), multi-specialty facility located on Al Sowa Island in the UAE, across from the Abu Dhabi Mall. One of the main objectives of the CCAD is to meet the needs of patients that currently travel abroad for treatment.

CCAD will be a physician-led medical facility served by United States trained and board certified physicians. Medical professionals working at CCAD will receive on going training directly from the Cleveland Clinic here in Cleveland, Ohio.

Through a comprehensive range of specialties and sub-specialties, CCAD will ofer the region's most advanced tertiary/quaternary medical services. Both local and international patients will receive world-class care in an unique environment combining "seven star" amenities and service standards with the highest quality patient care and superior clinical outcomes.

“Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will enhance health, wellness and long life for so many. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will combine the best of American medicine with the style and energy of this incredible city and nation," ” said Delos M. “Toby” Cosgrove, President and CEO, Cleveland Clinic.

The agreement was initially signed in September 2006, between the Cleveland Clinic and Mubadala Healthcare in the UAE. San Francisco-based architecture firm HDR was appointed to design the hospital, and ALDAR Properties has been designated the task of building the state-of-the-art facility.

The Cleveland Clinic has began their recruiting efforts for the new facility exactly one year ago. Those interested in employment at CCAD are encouraged to visit the facility's website at www.clevelandclinicabudhabi.com, where further information about CCAD can also be found.

HDR is Omaha-based. There is an office in San Francisco.

HDR; Genesis Planning is an awesome company. They also have another location in Houston, Texas. They are now working hand in hand with First Gulf International Inc. a medical equipment sales company.
HDR plans, and FGICO supplies. You can not get any better satisfaction and excellence than having two companies working hand in hand to create a top notch hospital. I hope FGICO is rewarded the CCAD procurement contract. I also hope to see the two companies excel in the future. The economy is not holding either corporation down! One hell of an investment right there.

As the subject states I'm realy not happy with the way the authorities of Abudhabi treat the people claimed to be tseted HIV positive, because its very painfull to be told the opposite of what you knew of your HIV status by this i mean a person on the case i'm about tell was tested negative in Tanzania, having traveled to abudhabi she went for testing (as per regulations she was told)then she was told that she is +ve, on being told that she was given few minutes to inform any relative she wanted and told to hand over her mobile phone, passport and visa to the police who was called by the doctor then she was shifted to a different premise where she found another Nigerian Lady with chains on her feet with some soldiers guarding the place she realized that it was a jail for HIV+ve people,on entering the place she was also chained on her feet all this because she was Tested +ve.This is my question to Abudhabi authorities is this fair for a human being? jailing and chaining someone for being sick and why do you treat people like animals? Should we Tanzanians treat the arabs here the same because I believe there are HIV +ve Arab foreigners here in TZ who are +Ve?.Does this mean Abudhabi is the HIV free zone? of course not, then what do you do when you find that your citizens are +ve? do you kill them?or jail them? if not why do you think its ok to stigmatise a foreigner?

omg... that's really bad - i have never heard of something like that going on in Abu Dhabi... scary!
