David Shuster Suspened by MSNBC for Chelsea Clinton "Pimp" Comment

MSNBC suspended correspondent David Shuster when Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign derided a comment he made yesterday. Shuster said that Hillary "pimped out" their daughter during this election cycle. The suspension comes after Clinton camp stated that she may not debate on the network. Chris Matthews, who hosts the political show 'Hardball' on the network, has ruffled feathers this election cycle in the Clinton camp.

Howard Wolfson said on a conference call today that Shuster's comments were "beneath contempt" and added:

"I, at this point, can't envision a scenario where we would continue to engage in debates on that network."

Shuster made an appearance on the network today to apologize before being suspended.

Jeremy Gaines, a spokesman for the network said:

"NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks."

Will his suspension keep the debate that is scheduled in Cleveland on? Most likely as Clinton needs all the free airtime that she can muster as Barack Obama, her chief Democratic rival, is well ahead in fundraising.

Here is the video of what got Shuster in hot water:

Comments

Hillary

Clinton people are shooting themselves in the foot with this one. He was just using slang and it really is no big deal. Maybe she just wanted to get in the news but they overreacted here.

Words Mean Something - Especially if you are a Professional

LETS START WITH A CLEAR DEFINITION SO THERE IS NO MIXING OF WORDS:

"Doesn't it seem sort of like Chelsea's being pimped out, in some weird sort of way?" said Shuster on air, in front of millions of viewers.

Definition of Pimp: A pimp finds and manages clients for prostitutes and engages them in prostitution (in brothels in most cases and some cases street prostitution) in order to profit from their earnings. Typically, a pimp will not force prostitutes to stay with him, although some have been known to be abusive in order to keep their prostitutes submissive or to maximize profits

FURTHER MY ACTIONS - I AM ANGRY TOO: I am mass mailing this to all the Senators until you FIRE that's right FIRE Mr. Shuster the Sexual disgraceful and distasteful reporter he is. We are responsible for our words.

He chose to let his political hot headed beliefs get in the way a bad idea. I will be sending this to the head of your network, your competitor and even "Fox-Noise" to get the job done if necessary.

Don't allow you or your staff to destroy the reputation of the innocent and i do mean innocent - Mr. Oberman you stand for decency and should have never allowed this, I feel betrayed, angry and cannot imagine how Chelsea must be feeling; so violated by your network.

David Shuster comment

I'm for Barack, first of all, but Shuster's comment is over the board. He needs to learn a lesson. He's talking on national tv not at his home where what he has said is probably (normally) happening within his family.

David Shuster Takes MSNBC Into the Sewer.

David Shuster's remarks were highly offensive, basically calling Chelsea a whore and her mother a pimp. Such mortal insults are rarely well received. Unfortunately, MSNBC has fostered this culture, pushing their politics of personal attack to the edge. So MSNBC can hardly claim it is unexpected when this culture produced a comment like Shuster's which SOARS FAR over the edge.

This is not only offensive to women. Any man with a wife and daughter understands the harm when someone publicly calls their daughter a whore and their wife a pimp, then smirks and laughs in their face. Isn't that what David Shuster of MSNBC did? Sure it is.

I'm a white male. The remarks were offensive and way over the edge (Shuster can be heard snickering in the backround after making the remark), the call for Shuster's head was proper, Shuster's "apology" compounded MSNBC's problem by being insincere, and MSNBC under-reacted by only suspending him temporarily. I doubt its over.

Sexist comment toward a female presidential candidiate

David Who?..........
Oh yeah! - David Scheister

Pimping

Shuster's comment is simply the logical extension of the anti-Clinton reporting begun by Chris Mathews. Because Shuster took it too far his punishment should be more severe. However his media pimp, Mathews, should not pass unscathed.

Why does this bother Shuster?

You know, my problem isn't with phrase "pimped out." True, it's damned distasteful, but it's just a phrase. What I find ridiculous and offensive is the press taking perfectly normal activity - in this case, a family member helping with a campaign - and implying that it's something corrupt, questionable - "unseemly." Why does the media CONSTANTLY do this with the Clintons? And NOBODY else?

Hillary Clinton's daughter is helping out with her mother's campaign. So? Why does this jackass Shuster seem to think that there's something wrong and "unseemly" about that?

Agreed

It didn't seem to bother Shuster when one of Mitt Romney's sons was recording messages in Spanish to help his father's campaign in Florida. You have a perfectly upstanding young woman helping her mother's campaign and that's unseemly? Yet somehow the impudent, spoiled behavior of the Bush twins is OK? It's interesting to me that a media that bent right over for the Bush Administration every step of the way is so against the Clintons. I have to wonder what their motives are, probably in direct contrast with the interest of those making UNDER 250,000 a year.

Chelsea Clinton

The comment is reprehensible. Ms C Clintons actions are perfectly normal for a 27 year old woman who supports a candidate. Obama girl is neat to Matthews and Shuster , but Hilary is a caculative slut to them. HMMMMMMM?

Shuster

He has been anti-Clinton from the beginning. He was all over Bill when he worked at Fox News. Maybe he still thinks he works there.

Shuster should be sacked

Yet another example of how the US Media will stoop to any levels to attract eyeballs... This isnt reporting.. This is pandering. Seriously dude be responsible because there are several folks watching the program.. His comment was reprehensible and he should be punished

Shuster comment

On MSNBC's Hardball with Cris Matthews the Clinton's are pounded on any and everything they do. At the end of his show, his round table is made up of Clinton haters who make remarks that can't be rebutted, and leaves viewers with a thought that if Cris thinks this way, it must be true. The biggest Clinton hater is not David Shuster, but Rachel Madow of Air America. I don't think she has ever said a good thing about the Clintons, and when Keith Olbermann brings her on his show, you can expect some snide remark about Bill or Hillary. The pimp remark is kinda tame after listening to Chris and Rachel.....

I guess it is a generational

I guess it is a generational thing, but I don't find the phrase "pimped out" that offensive. The metaphor has been dead to me for a long time now so I don’t picture actual pimps and whores.
What I do find offensive is that the Democratic party holds their own membership in such contempt that 40% of the primary has to be decided by career politicians in backroom deals. Nobody cares that peoples family support them, that is expected. I think what David was talking about here is sending the Clinton daughter to sweet talk these "super delegates". Again though, as long as super delegates exist, campaigns are going to stop at nothing to pander to them across the board. Why do we voters put up with this garbage from our party?

Shuster's Failed Apology

It was the time delay between the insult and the apology that will hurt David Shuster and MSNBC, in the exact same way and for the exact same reasons similar delays have damaged other media reputations. The delay (and initial refusal to even acknowledge the mistake) clearly implied that Shuster (like Chris Matthews several weeks earlier) didn't quite "get it" until MSNBC brass explained it to him. If media personalities want to avoid escalating mistakes like this they should take an immersion program in public relations crisis management -- the advice they should follow is pretty straightforward: a proper apology, according to http://www.perfectapology.com, should always include the following:

1. a detailed account of the situation
2. acknowledgement of the hurt or damage done
3. taking responsibility for the situation
4. recognition of your role in the event
5. a statement of regret
6. asking for forgiveness
7. a promise that it won't happen again
8. a form of restitution whenever possible

Obviously perfect apologies work best when delivered to recipients who are prepared to forgive. But when the aggrieved community sees an opportunity to push the hurt a little further then no apology is likely to be good enough. And that is precisely where we are today -- we're in the midst of a political charged election environment where the primary imperative is not to be reasonable but to search for ways to generate support for your side. When media personalities like MSNBC's David Shuster or Chris Mathews (or MSNBC's Don Imus, or Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman, etc.) screw up by insulting Chelsea or Hillary (or the Rutgers University women's basketball team, or Tiger Woods, etc.) even perfect apologies may not work, for perfectly rational political reasons.

The real error in these cases was not the initial mistake but the fact that the best, most sincere and meticulously worded apology was the last one to be issued by those who screwed up. What is so fascinating (and perplexing) about the rising number of failed public apologies over the last few years is that so few public figures (surrounded by public relations advisers) really know how to do it well, or quickly enough.

Get a Life

Big deal, its no more than the comments her father made down there in S.C., which in my opinion hit a real low for him. I defended him more than once but that was directed against a fine decent man who did not deserve it, so you think what David said was bad well I say big deal.

David Schuster is not a law

David Schuster is not a law abiding person. He is a lawless thug. I worked side by side with him in Little Rock covering the Whitewater trials and he was extremely abusive to me. He harassed me inside of the Federal courthouse in Little Rock and on the grounds of the Whitehouse. His harassment of me continued for months. I filed a complaint against him with the federal marshalls and with the local station who employed him. Nothing was done about him. I am not surprised that he would abuse the nation's airwaves with his unlawful characterizations of Chelsea Clinton. Not only should he be fired, he should be sued for defamation, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for intentional harassment. He should have been prosecuted for what he did to me in Arkansas and in DC and the only reason he wasn't was because he was a Clinton hater. Given his history of harassment, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and immediately. Judith Haney, USNewsLink

What???

Jesus...get a grip lady. You are such a whining cry baby. I could hardly read your stupid post, you are the problem with this country that you are so damn sensitive that you feel harrassed. Get over it and get a backbone. Seriously....I am so tired of whiners like you I can barely take it anymore. This country was created by people who survived covered wagons through long journeys, Indians, hunger, and criminals to make a new life for themselves. Listen to how you sound!!! You need therapy, seriously...life is hard, get used to it. People say things that you won't like, tough!!!!! This country is free, we are not socialist, you don't have a right to dictate crap to anyone. This guy can say what he wants, don't like it? Turn the damn channel but we are free people. Grow up or move to a country that the government will protect you stupid ears. Do us all a favor and move to china, see how that works out for you.

Shame on Shuster

Once again, the obvious unfairness of criticizing Hillary Clinton and her campaign for doing something that is perfectly fine for the other male candidates to do, just reaffirms that bias towards women is still alive and well in the U.S.

Funny, I don't hear Al Sharpton raising cane about this incident, that wreaks of the same distastefulness as the Don Imus comment -- but then I guess Chelsea isn't black enough.

I am not so naive to think that perhaps Shuster may have been pimped out by MSNBC in an effort to continue their Clinton-bashing campaign.

Hillary does not need to participate in debates on MSNBC -- I certainly won't be watching this network any longer, and neither will anyone else with an ounce of integrity and decency.

Mr. Shuster

If it is true that Mr. Shuster has ascended to MSNBC from Fox News, than perhaps they would like to have him back.

It is not so much that his commentary was offensive, than that it shows a lack of self-respect. For someone who considers himself so well educated, he has lowered himself to something that he clearly does not feel ashamed for. He obviously needs to gain the attention of an audience who finds that kind of comment acceptable. And since Mr. McCain has said equally offensive things about Ms. Chelsea Clinton in the past, perhaps Mr. Shuster has some friends waiting for him there at Fox who might appreciate him. Maybe he can join 'Fox & Friends."

I do feel sorry for him since he clearly does not understand that he has done anything wrong.

Shuster Sinks Low

Shame on Shuster, that "low-sinking" idiot who would say the likes of this on "International TV." It is obvious that he has a bitter grudge against the Clintons. Maybe he is anti-Women too. Women in power, or those vying for power should really do everything to clean up this mess, and rid the swine-infested media of vernon like this. If he said this about Obama, and his family, can you imagine the outcry from anti-everything,loud-mouthed Sharpton? When will the media learn to play fair? Its perfectly fine for Chelsea to campaign for her mother, but its not fine for Shuster to compare it to "prostitution."

David Shuster Suspened

If a disparaging comment is made toward a white male nothing is done. Blacks and women are so damn sensitive to almost any comment. If Shuster is fired, I personally will not watch MSNBC anymore and tell my friends to do the same.

Msnbc anchors

I think it is so bias against the Clintons. Cris should pull his head out from between his legs to. he never has a good thing to say, and is allways trying to stir up some controversy over the Clintons. I done much better under the Clinton administration than the Bush's i will be lucky to servive this last 8 years. I am not a person with money. And I have a lot less since this rich giveaway sack of crap took over. Just check your doctor exspenses now to 8 years ago

get an education dude

Look, Clinton did some good things and some really bad things. Check his record, don't just say stupid things like this. Bush did some really great things and some really dumb things as well, but he didn't cause most of the problems this country is having. Seriously, it's easy to listen and agree with uninformed people spout out such misinformation, and it's harder to look up the facts and come to your own conclusion using FACTS. Bush didn't go to war because he likes war or to make his rich buddies richer. Check youtube and you will see Bill Clinton, Hillary clinton, Harry Liar Reid, Nancy Storyteller Pelosi, and many others in the democratic party. They were all saying that we needed to invade iraq to remove Saddam because he had WMD's. Check it out.

With the attacks of the towers, it caused some financial issues, just the attack itself. Check the news reports of internets going down, businesses lossing thousands of dollars days after the attacks. Then the wars...this hurt us financially but it had to be done.

I got 2 checks from Bush, NONE from Clinton or any other democrate...EVER!!! I get tax breaks and other benefits I am not getting from Obama, Clinton, or any democrate.

The real important thing to understand is the president doesn't have as much to do with the economy as the house and senate. Check it out. With Clinton, republicans controlled the senate and gave a lot of tax breaks that helped the rich, the middle class, and even the poor. Yes you did have it better under clinton, but WHY? Clinton? NO. Stop listening to the news and start reading the bills and listening to cspan where you will find out the truth. Listen to both sides if you listen to news...FOX and CNN, both will tell you the same stories from two completely different views and you can decide which makes the most sense. George Bush didn't stick a cigar in a young girls vagina who trusted and respected him...um...like...CLINTON the sex offender. Bush is not your enemy or the real problem, it's the liars in office now like Obama. These people lie to get what they want, and they won't stop until they get it, no matter who they hurt or who they step on. The enemy is in your face now and you don't even see it....Oh well.

Clinton racism

Speaking of Chelsea Clinton:

There is bad news about her father.

It is opined that Bill Clinton committed racist hate crimes, and I am not free to say anything further about it.
