Awaited 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Creating a Buzz at Chicago Auto Show

The muscle car is back. Dodge is releasing the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 next month to join the retro looking Ford Mustang on the roads, while GM prepares to launch its new Chevy Camaro sometime soon.

The 2009 Challenger brings back a nameplate that had been idle for decades. The new Challenger won't come cheap topping out at over $38,000 and Dodge plans on building only 6,800 of the vehicles.

So what do you get for 38k nowadays? A V8 6.1 Liter Hemi will power the Challenger and it will deliver 425 HP. The car sprints to 60 miles an hour in less than 4 seconds. The car will hit showrooms next month.

Here is a video where you can see the Challenger in action:

2009 Dodge Challenger

The base price of the Dodge Challenger should be around 23-25,000 based upon the base price of the Charger with the same engine. Also, the 6.1 L version will go 0-60 in the 4.8 - 4.9 second range with the automatic (a few tenths less with the manual). Lastly, Dodge will sell as many Challengers as people will buy. The 6800 that you reported is due to a limited production run for 2008. For 2009 they will build somewhere between 40,000-80,000 units depending on public demand.

2009 SRT-8 Challenger pricing...

I have a 2009 SRT-8 Challenger on order. I was recently informed that the base price for this car has jumped about $2000.00 over the 08. I also noticed that Chrysler has down graded some of the features that were standard on the 08 like the sound system for one and I'm not quite sure what else yet!! I think it kinda sucks that they up the price and down grade the features on their premium car. What's up with that Chrysler???
