Lebron James On the Cover of Vogue Magazine in April

Lebron James becomes only the third man ever to grace the cover of 116 year old fashion magazine Vogue. The Cleveland Cavaliers star is joined by Tom Brady's supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bündchen in the April edition of the magazine.

King James told Sports Illustrated about the experience:

"Me being a big guy and a big supporter of fashion, to be on the cover with Gisele, on the cover of the biggest fashion magazine ever -- it's pretty good."

Bündchen shared her thoughts on the experience shooting the cover with the NBA Superstar saying:

"He doesn't really make you feel small, even though he is big," she says in the magazine. "I think my leg is like the size of his shoe."

Why did you potray lebron to

Why did you potray lebron to look like king kong and gisele to look like his captive he's running off in to the jungle with. The picture is absolutley is horrible and i hope you dont sell enough copies to make your quota!!!!!!!!! VOUGE SUCKS FOR THIS PICTURE

magazine cover

because he is a basketball player and thats what he does when he is out there on the court and she is a supermodel and that what she does. what did u want him to do. whatever he did u would just find something else to complain about eveything isnt always white and black just leave it alone he didnt have a problem with it why should u stop making life harder than it already is

wow retard

you are such a douche man ya right like they meant to make KING james be King Kong u might enjoy dick sucking but lebron does not.

Pooooooor taste!!!!

Pooooooor taste!!!!

ummmm.......

I heard the controversy over this picture.......i'm an african american and if anybody has ever watched basketball up closely the athletes make faces like that after the dunk or make a nice shot........people want to say that the picture is racist i don't see how it is. It was just all in fun and I don't really think lebron took it that way. People portray the pic to look like king kong and if you see it that way that's your opinion but try to look on the positive side......

re

So youre saying as an "African American" you dont have a problem with another black person being portrayed as a gorilla on a magazine?

lol

Why oh why do people make a mountain out of a molehill? King James is just showing a little emotion like he said. I'm pretty sure the people commenting negative about him either hate his basketball team or are racist? I'm white and i have to say he is the MAN

cover of magazine

how is it poor taste that's what he does when hegisplaying basketball why cant it just be a basketball player and a supermodel on the cover and leave it at that but of not people have to make everything difficult when it doesn't have to be if they put steve nash on with her instead of lebron u would say why cant they put a black athlete on now that is his on u cant be happy with that u have to find some stupid reason to throw race he is an adult he knows whats for him and whats bad he doesn't have a problem with the cover why should u always have to find something to bitch about just be happy for once makes life much easier

Race-baiting

The context: first cover of a black man on their magazine- Ever. First time out, positive emotions on display or negative ones? Hmmmm. Negative? We all love LeBron, but lets not let that arrest us from shaming Annie Lebovitz and Vogue. They should know better. There are more than enough negative portrayals of black men in the media. Enough! Have some sense! There is a name for it: it is called "Race Baiting for Fun and Profit." Time to call it what it is. To conclude that the cover is harmless is not possible unless one views it out of context.

Move Forward

Why do people take black images and constantly try to portray them as unequal to white society.

Vogue cover

Annie Leibowitz has done this before. Her image of African-Americans is straight out of a King Kong movie. Compare the poster to the movie and this photo. It is photographic plagiarism at its finest.

what kind of person assumes

what kind of person assumes that he was supposed to look like a giant ape? its a picture of a man and a woman. you must be a pretty sick person to make the connection between this and king kong

Being a realist

I have never seen a white man, athlete or otherwise asked to pose in such a manner!!!! If the picture had indeed been him playing in court with that expression....it would have been fine. Do they have to make him look like that on a magazine cover..... a fashion one at that!!!!!!!! That snarl does not look like a I-am-gonna-dunk-this one.......it looks like a guarilla.......

The way he is being portrayed is degrading.

WAT IS WRONG W/YOU GUYS??

are you serious?? lebron makes a break in another way and people wanna b fagets about. i don't give a damn about being politically correct ok? yes lebron is black and so what. to all those black folk that think they're making everything racist then you need to get into the year 2009. yes racism is around bt grow up. the picutre is friggin ingenious. it shows beauty and the beast. it brings people's attention and if lebron is cool w/it then y cry about it. real talk tho i'm disappointed in the ppl that try ta make this somehow racist. no matter what you woulda brought sumthing up w/race. y isn't there a black man there? y did they hafta make a black guy look like that? it's disgraceful... grow up.

Here's some basic reasoning for everybody

Essentially what has happened here is that a picture has been taken that can be viewed different ways from different perspectives. The resemblance between this photo and a photo of King Kong and his captive is obvious, but it doesn't make it an intentional jab at Lebron or African Americans.
However, this does not mean that we simply act like we don't see King Kong in this photo, we do, and thats okay. Basketball players often refer to each other as beasts or monsters in the game. If King Kong hadn't been a monkey then this wouldn't even be an issue. Nevertheless, two thing can be seen here, both should be recognized and accepted, but no malice should be taken from it
