Cleveland Cavaliers To Honor Joe Tait on Wednesday

Joe Tait, who has announced Cleveland Cavilers basketball for 35 seasons, will be calling his 3,000th game on Wednesday. The broadcasting legend will be honored at halftime and fans will be "Way to go Joe" signs as they enter the arena for the game against the New Orleans Hornets.

“Joe is an incomparable one-man show. Generations of fans have experienced Cavs basketball as Joe narrates every nuance of action from left to right on their radio dials,” said Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena President Len Komoroski. “There is no one that delivers the game call, and color commentary too, like our own Joe Tait and we congratulate him on this milestone broadcast.”

Tait's play calling is legendary locally and to NBA fans worldwide. He has been the broadcaster for the Cavaliers since the inception of the team, although he was on hiatus when his "tell it like it is" style got him in trouble with then owner Ted Stepien in 1981 and 1982. The 70 year old has been named Ohio Sportscaster of the Year in 1974, 1976, 1978, 1991, 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2004.

Never heard Tait call a game? Here is a classic clip from "The Miracle at Richfield" in 1976.
