Feds Throw the Book at Tax Scofflaw Wesley Snipes

Tax scofflaw Wesley Snipes has been sentenced to serve 3 years for tax evasion. Judge William Terrell Hodges said the actor and stated he showed a "history of contempt over a period of time". Snipes was also fined up to $5 Million dollars and along with the 3 years behind bars was the maxium he could be sentenced for. Snipes legal team said that they are set to appeal the sentence.

“We were hoping for a complete acquittal,” a lawyer representing Snipes stated following the verdict. “I have faith in the process, and I have faith in the jury system. We will appeal.”

Prosecutors, who recommended the stiff sentence, seemed upset that Snipes showed no public remorse for avoiding paying taxes. Snipes acknowledged he made mistakes but never clearly cited what those mistakes were. That seemed to irk the people who held his fate in their hands.

“He never stated he didn’t pay his taxes or show any remorse for it,” said Robert O’Neill.
