I think it's really desperate and low of Vanity Fair to take advantage of a 15-year-old girl to try and make sex sell their magazine. I mean, come on. I am a mom of a beautiful daughter who is now grown, but she was in dancing for years when she was little. One of the most beautiful pictures that I still have hanging on my wall was a picture taken prior to a recital when she was 10 years old. It is a picture of her in full makeup, looking over her shoulder, bare backed with one of those colorful fluffy boas draped accross her. She looked elegant and lovely and my daughter along with 99% of the rest of the dance team was photographed the same way with never a bad thought or word uttered as us proud moms showed off our beautiful little angels. I'm going to have to agree w/the "yikes" post. Unfortunatly, we do not live in a world where the back of a 15 year old girl is seen as "art" or "natural." To the thousands of pedophiles looking for this type of thing, what parent would willingly allow their 15 year old child to pose like that? I think this whole situation is ridiculous. This is a beautiful, natural, and artistic picture. It's showing nothing but her back. I'm sure that half of the dresses and tops girls wear on a daily basis are twice as revealing and "sexy" as this photo. She's not even showing a sensual facial expression. So lets get this straight she is less than one year from legally being able to have sex with someone under 18...at least in Michigan. For all of you parents out there you better believe most girls as good as they may seem ;) have done about everything but at 15 and every year that age gets lower and lower. So what to do ? you can criticize and act like it doesn't happen try to shut your teen out and shield them, (this will only cause them to be really bad later trust me i dated one of these girls...lotta fun) or you can approach it from a realistic angle and realize that Miley is the least of your worries. It needs to start with real parenting that doesn't shield the child from reality and lets them decide whats right and wrong. You just need to instill good values, preferably not religion based, religion can be added on top of the values but should not be the basis of decision making. Interesting side note, the US is really the only country that a good portion of the population still believes in Christianity, 95% of Europe just writes it off as something that was... is Europe bombing anyone? No so you can have good values based on getting information from as many different view points and place before making a decision without a religious core (basically unbias informed decisions). If you make to many decision for your children in general they begin to feel like they are incapable of making decision on their own and wont trust them selfs, they lack self respect and that takes you exactly to where your running away from. :) funny how that works huh. If you enstil realistic values that are based on helping man kind as a whole then there should be now worries about small temporary figures such as Miley. They will be able to sort it out as long as they can trust in what you have taught them, and that it can not be questioned or proved wrong (ie: religious base, this can be added later if you want) as long as they are values that are shared around the world no matter the religion... i can guarantee you your child will make more realistic, informed and logical decision.
