Rock On the Range Provides Great Weekend for Music Fans

Thousands of music fans converged to Columbus Crew Stadium to witness the 2008 Rock on the Range festival. Fans witnessed the marquee events of Stone Temple Pilots reunion show Saturday night along with Kid Rock, the headline act on Sunday night, who brought special guests Peter Wolf and Rev. Run of Run DMC fame to wow the older guests of the crowd. Both acts showed why they had the headlining honors as they provided the most entertaining sets of the weekend.

Saturday's weather was nearly perfect for the 40,000 plus fans who attended the event. With temperatures in the mid 70's and plenty of sunshine fans were treated to sets by Filter, Staind, and Disturbed. While those acts had the occasional stadium anthems, including Disturbed's surprisingly good cover of Phil Collin's Land of Confusion, the crowd was clearly blown away by Stone Temple Pilots who have been absent from the rock scene for most of this decade. Playing hit after hit Scott Weiland and the DeLeo brothers made their comeback show worth the hype. STP's show stops in Cleveland tomorrow night at the State Theater.

Sunday the weather took a turn for the worse. A cold, gray, and windy day couldn't dampen the crowds spirit though. Acts such as Papa Roach, Sevendust, Seether, and 3 Doors Down warmed up the crowd for headline act Kid Rock. Kid Rock must have known that STP would set the bar high as he brought 80's icons from J. Geils Band and Run DMC. It seemed as the whole crowd knew the words to 'Angel is a Centerfold' and "Walk This Way". Kid Rock showed his diverse influences in country, rock, and rap in the hour and half long set that concluded the show and sent concert goers home happy and forgetting that had had to endure hours of cold temperatures.

It was great to see that Rock N Roll is alive and well in the state of Ohio. The only disappointing thing from a Cleveland standpoint is that the event is in Columbus and not in the rock n roll hall of fame city.
