Harry Potter Actor Stabbed to Death in Street Brawl
An actor set to appear in the next Harry Potter film was murdered over a dispute involving an alleged mobile phone theft. Rob Knox, 18, died around 1am on Saturday in a street attack outside the Metro Bar in Sidcup, Kent UK.
Four other men were also injured in the attack, with one being stabbed in the head.
According to a friend who was with Rob and his friends that evening, one of Rob's friends had his mobile phone stolen the week prior and accused a black man in the bar of taking it.
There was a minor scuffle the last time, but the man was in the bar again Friday evening, and Rob's friend confronted him again, said the friend. The man left and said he would be back, and the boys were expecting trouble, but nothing like what happened.
According to the witness:
"It was around midnight when this car pulled up outside and I saw two black blokes get out and come into the bar. One of them was shouting something at Jamie and then he threw a chair at him.
‘ It all went mad and there were several blokes fighting ’
"The next thing it all went mad and there were several blokes fighting. I stayed inside the bar so I didn’t really see what happened outside but I heard that one of the black blokes had two knives on him and he was stabbing anyone who went near him."
Knox had just wrapped up work on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where he had landed a small role as Ravenclaw student Marcus Belby.
A spokesman for Warner Bros. said, "We are deeply saddened and shocked by this news and at this time our sympathies are with his family."
Rob's parents, Sally and Colin Knox, also issued a statement:
"Rob was kind and thoughtful and would always help out others - he would always spend his last penny on other people instead of himself.
"The life and soul of the party, he was very outgoing, loved sports, and would always strike up a conversation with people.
"He was respectful to others and adored by all his family and friends. He was asset to the family."
One of Rob's friends, Tom Hopkins, 18, pinned down a man armed with a knife outside the bar with the assitance of another friend, Tarik Ozress, 17. The two wrestled with the man for several minutes before police arrived on scene. During the struggle, Tom was stabbed in the head.
In all, a total of four men were taken to the hospital with injuries. Police have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.
In the meantime, flowers have been piled at the location where Rob Knox died.
