Dutrow Throws Desormeaux Under Bus for Big Brown's Belmont Ride

Richard Dutrow Jr, the loquacious trainer of Belmont flop Big Brown, had said his horse winning the Triple Crown was a forgone conclusion last week. If you had watched the race, you knew that Big Brown was in serious trouble heading for the stretch and their was really no way he was going to place in the money. That didn't stop the brash trainer from questioning Kent Desormeaux's ride on Saturday.

He spoke to the Daily Racing Form yesterday about the loss, saying:

"It happened in the wrong race," Dutrow said. "It was a huge race, biggest race I've ever been in. I feel like a loser right now and I don't know why. Usually when I get beat I can handle it the right way, and I've handled this the right way, but I just feel like something's not right. I know it's not the combination that our stable has with the horse, me, [exercise rider] Michelle [Nevin], the groom. I know he went into this race unbelievable, so the rest Kent's got to answer."

Dutrow added:

"Getting the horse from the gate to the first turn like that is not the way to play the game," Dutrow said. "A lot of people say that it really confuses the horse. I'm sure he didn't have [any] idea what the hell was going on going into the first turn the way [Desormeaux] was switching him all over the damn track. I don't know what he was doing. Did he tell you what he was doing?"

It seems that Dutrow is as poor of a loser as he is a winner. The loud mouth trainer now is blaming his jockey for a rank horse, and saving the Big Brown who his headed for stud at a price tag of $50 Million. Desormeaux did the right thing by pulling up Big Brown and for Dutrow to say otherwise makes his character even more questionable than it already had been. Dutrow, it is bad enough that you are a poor winner and now you have made yourself look even worse whining about a horse who just didn't run the way you expected him to and made you look like a fool.
