American Airlines Cancels Flight Due to Hostile Customers

American Airlines flight 1908 from Miami to LaGuardia on Sunday night was delayed because the flight crew didn't show up on time, and when they did finally arrive, pissed off passengers began to boo. This hostile behavior on behalf of the passengers apparently proved to be too threatening, and the American Airlines crew refused to fly.

One passenger described the incident saying, "...and then they closed them behind glass doors, and they kind of threatened us that they weren't going to fly with the way people were acting. Some people got very agitated." Another passenger indicated that a few people were acting like a mob and using harsh language.

At this point, two American Airlines crew members refused to work in a "hostile" environment, and because they were unable to find another crew, the flight was grounded and cancelled.

Passengers on the cancelled flight were compensated and given a hotel for the night. When they finally arrived at LaGuardia the next evening, however, passengers found out that their bags had been sent to JFK.

Just more of the same

Now rage is in the air.

Why was the flight crew delayed? How long? Were the passengers kept informed about the delay.

If the delay was a long one were the passengers offered other options. It seems there is a lot left out of this story.
If you are looking for intelligent comments about behavior then more info is needed. If the puropse of this story is to fan the flames od discontent then you are well on your way to fulfill that purpose.

flight 1908

I was on that flight. The flight was supposed to leave at 9:45 and the crew did not arrive until 11:30. Almost all the articles failed to mention that MOST people clapped and cheered when the crew got there and maybe 2 or 3 people booed. 250 people had to find another way home because of those 2 or 3 people (AND AA could have just ejected those three-since they knew exactly who they were). Also, all the other people who were on the previous flight had made it through customs and had been sitting there for an hour when the crew arrived. Seems unlikely that the average Joe could get through customs faster than the flight crew.

I too was on the flight and

I too was on the flight and can vouch that at most a handful of people booed. I was in an accident and had perscription drugs I needed and was denied acces to bag after the cancellation. Not only could they identify those who booed but Miami police was talking to the main lady while I was leaving the airport.

Did it ever occur to anyone

Did it ever occur to anyone that the flight crew was late because they were flying in on another plane that was delayed landing in Miami? That was why they didn't go though security or customs...
