17 Ejected, 1 Fan Injured in Ohio Minor League Baseball Brawl
Following a bench clearing brawl during a game between the Midwest League's Dayton Dragons and Peoria Chiefs, umpires ejected 15 players and two managers. The fight broke out in just the first inning of the game.
During the fight Peoria pitcher Julio Castillo threw a ball towards the Dayton dugout. The ball ended up in the stands, hitting a fan who was thus taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.
The first inning of the game featured three hit batters, several injured players, and managers pushing eachother. The fighting lasted only about 10 minutes, but resulted in an hour delay of the game.
Both of the single-A minor league teams protested the ejections, making a call to the league president. They argued that they did not want their pitchers playing in the outfield to complete the game.
The protesting worked, and in the end the ejections were reversed. The game was resumed at around 8:50pm, with Dayton taking home a win, 6-5.
