Humorous New McCain Ad Refers to Obama as "The One"

Is Barack Obama the Choosen One? A mass email from the John McCain campaign announced on Friday the release of a new video spoof in which Obama is referred to as "The One". There are a number of religious parallels, as well as several references which compare Obama to a messianic figure.

The video opens with the narrative, "It should be known that in 2008, the world will be blessed. They will call him The One." Interspersed are clips of Obama in the media, and selected statements he has made. Sarcasm is ever-present in the video, consistently referring to Obama as a self-appointed Messiah. The ad ends with Charlton Heston as Moses, parting the Red Sea in the film "The Ten Commandments", followed by questions of Obama's leadership ability.

Although McCain has received some heat from the Obama camp, he has defended the ad. According to McCain, it is important to "display a sense of humor" in the presidential race, and that he has done.

McCain's "The One" ad follows on the heels of another spoof ad that put Obama with Hollywood celebs Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. With the attention that both ads have been able to secure, the spoofs are not likely to end. In fact, we can probably prepare for more in the near future.

The spoofs, although criticized by the Obama campaign as "juvenile antics", are an ingenious move. The Obama campaign and those media outlets who support the Democratic candidate have been attempting to paint John McCain a clueless, old man out of touch with the modern world. These are the kind of ads that appeal to the YouTube generation, the young voters accustomed to viewing short, witty films that entertain them. Furthermore, the inclusion of the gossip mag regulars also shows that he's hip, and in touch with pop culture. It's brilliant in that it counters the oppositions arguments as to why the Republican senator would be an unsuitable candidate.

What a dork McCain is becoming.

Can we ALL agree that John McCain needs NEW set of Advisers? His recent erratic campaign ad movements leave many shaking their hands!

McCain has put out at least 200 web commercials and you did not even know he had a youtube channel until this celeb ad came out.

You say you shake your head, but something is sinking in. It would not upset you unless it was working. The bottom line is it's working. You can't make everyone happy with everything you do. McCain was not going after Obama supporters, these people are hardcore. Not even a video of Obama sodomizing a goat could get them not to like him, so their approval is not his concern. He is going after Hillary supporters. Independents on the fence and forcing to make a choice. He is saying aloud what each and everyone of them is thinking. There is nothing negatives about the ads. He never says anything about barack in them. Yes Barack is popular, yes he thinks he is the one to save America from whatever, but can he lead? It's a valid question. The problem is Barack does not like to be questioned. He only wants admirers. McCain is challenging that assumption.

Only Obama fanatic can see no humor in these ads. Any reasonable person would think they are funny.

People are saying that these ads are childish. Well good. This election was starting to make me reach for my Prozac. McCain is bringing some humor into it. We don't want our leader to depress us to death. Obama is trying to run and daring anyone to criticize him at their own risk. McCain is calling his bluff.

Yes we can make fun of Barack. Yes we can criticize him. Yes we can say that he is not ready to lead. Yes we can say that he is full of himself. Yes we can say that he would sell his grandmother if it would him the election. Yes we can and we should and we will.

He may think that he has the election already in the bag, but there are a lot of mind that are still to be made up and McCain is trying to get to them with some humor. Unlike Obama who is trying to shame people into voting for him by suggesting that any doubt about him is rooted in racism. Americans should not stand for this blackmail. We will not keep quiet because we are afraid that the Army of Obamanation is going to come after us call us racists, bigots. America did not stop being America because Obama is running. We are a people of free will. We choose our leaders base on who we are as a people, not who the opposition wishes we were. Obama wishes that we were all voting for him. He will not be satisfied that America is great and tolerant nation unless he is president. He wants this election be a referundum on be how far we have come since Martin Luther King. We are great and a tolerant country if we accept him as our leader. I say no. I say I will not be bullied, intimidated into submission.

What is best for America is for America to remain a capitalist country. Taxing companies because they made a profit we think is too much is beyond un-American, it's communistic. We don't want to go down that road. We don't want socialize healthcare because as Americans we don't like to wait months to see our doctors. We don't want to shut down trade with other nations because we depend on them more than they depend on us. I like cheap clothing, cheap computers, cheap toys. I like English as the country's language even though English is my second tongue. English puts us together, the constitution holds us tight.

I like my president to know how many states the country has. Obama thinks we have 57 states. McCain may not know that Iraq does not border Afganistan, but I bet he knows that Nevada borders Arizona. Unlike Barrack who did not know that Kentucky borders Illinois.

The choice this election is simple. We can choose to get sucked in into the hype or we can stay above it. I choose to stay above it and I'm voting McCain. I don't like to be shamed into voting for anyone. Even if he's black like me.

I think you are just one hell of a white Bigot, calling himself Black, just to score some cheap points.

You've got to grow up, cos you have been overtaking by events.

Michael.

you know how people regressed when they age? This antics by McCain shows that he's incredibly childish and silly. Signs of Alzheimer's perhaps? ;)

Does McCain really think mocking my Christian faith is funny? Comparing Obama to Jesus Christ is highly offensive.

Do McCain and his disciples of dirt think it is alright to demean what some people hold sacred?

Just think what fun this bunch of frat-boys could have in the White House insulting peoples around the world and their religions. Who knows it might be worth a hilarious new war!

Vote no to the intolerance and bullying that has blighted our county for almost 8 years now. We deserve better.

ops that was Charleton Heston playing 'Moses" in a movie!

I think the ad is correct. Obama acts as if he thinks he is some kind of Messiah or Prophet depending on which religion you may want to associate him with.
I think the ad did him justice by comparing him with Moses.
If they would have compared him with Mohammed then it would have been considered a low blow.

I am no fan of McCain, but come on! Those were great ads. And as a charismatic evangelical follower of Christ, I am not at all offended at the ad titled "The One". The media and Obama have pretty much made Obama out to be the Messiah. I think it is funny to point that out using Obama's own words. LOL He may actually get my vote now. Especially if he changed his mind on immigration.
