Music Review: Purgation, Trigger The Bloodshed

Yet again we get another death metal outfit. Will Trigger The Bloodshed be like the rest or be better with their debut release Purgation? “Inception” introduces “Merciless Ignorance” as both fill out guttural growls, traditional double bass and pawed guitar strokes as they give us no surprises andare traditional in their sound. “Lacerated” is similar as it’s monotonous and bleak with only a small hint of difference with screaming and growling in the lyrics and a bit of blaring guitars, but it’s unclear and nonexistent.
They offer a nice interluding instrumental on “The Defiled” as they brought synthesizers into an orchestral interpretation alongside the blistering riffs and machine-gun like drum breaks. Unfortunately that was their only reach into experimentation as they return into degradation with “Severed” as it’s a total mess of music and vocal abilities, but they’re quite true to the form of the genre. They yet again get back into different nuances with “Hollow” as it’s full of low-fi production quality, echoed shredding and light percussion creating something somber. “Mortuary Walls” is another tragic death metal cut as it’s just unabashedly repetitive except for the hues of feedback.
“A Wretched Betrayal” continued the annihilation of the eardrums as it was vile and inhumane. “Retribution” may be the most understandable of the songs on here as the vocals are sort of listenable and the guitar work isn’t that badly crafted. “Whited Sepulcher” is just like “Retribution” in its style as it’s not really great, but has some nice sound. “A Perfect Casket” finally ends this release on a soft note as they utilize a ballad set to black metal proportions showing us that they could be a melodic death metal group. Trigger The Bloodshed answered the question an they’re a normative death metal band, but they do give some indication that they’ll stretch the barriers a bit as they’re not terrific, but are at least above average.
