Less for More: Plain Dealer Likely to Increase Daily Newspaper Price
The newspaper industry is facing tough economic times, and the Plain Dealer is no exception. Back in June of this year, top PD executives told editorial staff members that big changes were in store for the paper, the first of those being that they would soon cut 35 pages per week from the paper and 20% of the workforce. However that is only the beginning. Inside sources reveal that a price hike is also likely to be announced within the next two weeks.
The paper is currently $0.50 on weekdays. The increased price is more than likely to be set at $0.75 for dailies, much like the national paper USA Today. The Sunday paper may also see an increase.
The price increase isn't likely to go over too well with Clevelanders, who have already seen the quality of the city's one daily decline with the reduction of pages.

Not worth the .50 they are charging now. If they increase it to .75, I guess I stop reading the PD.
I only buy the paper so I will have some paper for my kitty litter box. The PD is so fickle and is written so elementary school age level. I have found important stories (what's going on at the Justice Center, etc) hidden in the weekend papers, but then during the week lame stories except when it is something going on (corruption / politics) that they just can't ignore. I read most of my news on line including Cleveland.com from time to time. The rest of my news I get from CNN, Fox, etc. Scene magazine I like a lot too. I hope the writers find jobs before the paper shuts down for good. Bernstein, Fulwood, Brett, Connie Schultz, etc are my favorites.
