Bernie Mac Dead at Age 50
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, comedian Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning. The newspaper cites a close friend of Mac's family as the source.
Mac had been hospitalized at Northwesten Memorial Hospital in Chicago for a week where he was being treated for pneumonia. Last weekend several websites falsely reported that the funnyman had died, and his publicist repeatedly denied that he was dying. Just two days ago he was said to be in "stable" condition.
TMZ followed up on the Sun-Times report, getting a statement from Bernie's rep:
"Actor/ comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family's privacy continues to be respected."
Bernie Mac, whose real name is Bernard McCullough, was preceded in death by both his mother and his only two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda McCollough and his daughter Je'Niece, and his only grandchild, Jasmine.

Bernie Mac, you will be greatly missed. You were one of our greatest comedians. I am a huge fan of yours and have seen everything that you have played in. I still watch "The Bernie Mac Show" til this day, even thouhg they are reruns. I am devastated and in shock! I miss you already Bernie Mac. I send my condolences to the McCollough family. He was truly one of the greatest.... Love ya Bernie Mac!! :(
