Roger Federer's Struggles Continue: Upended by Blake in Quarterfinals

The Americans are cheering on James Blake run in the Olympics while the world wonders what happened to the once almighty Roger Federer. Federer, once about as unbeatable as it gets on a tennis court, lost to United States' tennis player Blake in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). The result is nothing less than astonishing when you look at the past 8 meetings where Blake was winless and managed to win only one set off the Swiss star.

"This is unbelievable," said Blake. "It's not very often you get to say you beat the No.1 player in the world anytime, but to do it at the Olympics with USA on your chest, I'm so proud to be part of this team."

It wasn't good news on the women's side for the United States. Both Venus and Serena Williams were bounced from the tournament. Serena was ousted by Elena Dementieva of Russia while the home crowd of China spurred China's Li Na past Venus Williams 7-5, 7-5.

Blake's next opponent will be against Chile's Fernando Gonzalez in the semifinals. The stakes will be high as the pair will play for the right to win a gold medal for their respective countries.
