Sarah Palin's Personal E-Mail Account Compromised
John McCain's running mate, Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, may be in some hot water over using her personal, unarchived e-mail address (gov.sarah@yahoo.com) to conduct state business. The practice is questionable because it violates public records requests and may end up stalling the information gathering in the infamous Troopergate scandal. But here's the big news of the day - a few folks from the online message board 4Chan got ahold of a password to what appears to be another Palin personal e-mail account, gov.palin@yahoo.com.
It could be just a prank, but the screenshots and evidence are believed to be pretty damning at this point. You can decide for yourself whether or not it's an elaborate hoax, but here's the details as to why it's all pretty convincing:
- The contact list includes an e-mail address for Sarah's husband, Todd Palin, which is confirmed as being legitimate.
- The contact list also contains a phone number for Bristol Palin, which is also genuine.
- Also included in the contact list is an address for Beth Leschper, Palin's deputy communications director.
- There's an e-mail in there from Amy McCorkell, a known associate of Palin from Wasilla who's likely to have her personal e-mail address.
- The public profile for gov.palin@yahoo.com show's the last update to the profile was in April 2008, well before she had any inkling she'd be McCain's running mate.
- The mailbox contained e-mails to and from Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell about a local radio talk host.
- New family photos that we haven't seen yet!
- E-mails to Ivy Frye, a Palin aide.
- Public profiles for gov.sarah@yahoo.com and gov.palin@yahoo.com, which were both previously publicly accessible, were both deleted at the same time.
Before you try to hack into the account yourself, I should warn you that it is no longer possible. One good samaritan reset the password and attempted to alert Palin to the security breach, but he also posted the new password. Multiple people tried to log-in at the same time, which caused the account to be frozen for 24 hours. And now, somehow, the account has been deleted.
Fortunately, there were plenty of screen grabs saved, which you can view below. Palin's contact list has also been posted online, but we're declining to reproduce that to respect the privacy of the individuals involved.

Those of you who have never actually had an official government email account may not know this but, guess what, it is ILLEGAL to use that account for partisan political purposes, e.g. commiserating with Schwarzenegger, chatting with an aide who offers morale support, etc etc. Ergo, one must use personal email for that sort of thing.

When I said it was "pretty damning", I was referring to the evidence that it is likely her email account and not a prank. I was not referring to the content of her emails.
Most employees of the government have their email address on their business card. And a governor communicating with a governor seems legit to me. Your probably on the left...am I right?
As far as what has been released etc. there has been no EVIDENCE that she broke any laws and conducted any actual state business.
They hacked her email trying to prove she did something wrong.
If she did, would they not already have released it?

Anyone ever heard of the phrase, "assumptions make an a** out of you and me"? Perhaps both sides should think about this before making the claims that everyone has.
To the left: why worry about the use of her e-mail until someone with authority to look into the matter actually does? Raise hell about it until then, but don't assume that anything in these hacked accounts automatically makes her a criminal. She's a real person and does have the right to enjoy the use of a private e-mail address.

I don't see how this can be fake, since obviously some of the emails were received prior to the VP nomination.
Because the left is suffering from Bush derangement syndrome and Palin derangement syndrome they do not see the real problem with this. They are focused on Palin's email account and see nothing wrong with the illegal activity that uncovered it. They have a huge problem with the government scanning cell phone calls overseas looking for terrorists plotting to kill us, but they see no problem with sympathetic hackers tapping into private email accounts for political reasons. The threat of terrorists and the hackers breaking into Palin's account is the same. Both are an invasion of our freedoms. This is why we must defeat the leftists at the polls in November. The more we elect these people, the more of this behavior will be tolerated and one-sided.

Palin said she visited Ireland. Fact? Her plane stopped in Ireland to refuel there, ONLY.
Palin said she visited Iraq. Fact? Alaska National Guard says she was in Kuwait and visited a border crossing to Iraq, ONLY.
She told Charlie Gibson that she thought that many Vice Presidential nominees didn't have contact with foreign leaders before being elected. Fact? Every Vice Presidential nominee since WWII, except Agnew, had extensive contact with foreign heads of state before being nominated.
Timothy, you quoted Mark Twain... and Palin tried to paraphrase Lincoln in her interview with Charlie Gibson. Perhaps the Lincoln quote about which Palin should have given a great deal more thought is, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time."

The McCain campaign has verified that the account was Governor Palin's, as reported by Associated Press. Both the governor and her husband's personal accounts have been deleted. Along with everything in them apparently. Presumably Yahoo can recover any and all government-related messages, should that be required.
Have you folks considered that you don't know who did this hack? Seeing as the first reaction to it is to make people angry at democrats, don't you think it's a little bit possible that there is reverse psychology at work?
