McCain Leads Obama in Yet Another Ohio Poll

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has edged out his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, for the second time in two weeks in the key swing state of Ohio. This is despite the fact that according to those polled in Ohio, they are worse off than they were four years ago.

The Ohio News Organization poll found that 48 percent of Ohio's likely voters said they would vote for McCain, compared to 42 percent who said they would vote for Obama.

Interestingly, voters polled said that they believe Obama better understands the economic problems facing the state than McCain, by 46 to 39 percent. If that is the case, an issue other than the economy must be weighing more heavily on the minds of Ohioans.

Last week a poll in Ohio by Public Policy Voting showed McCain wit 48 percent support, versus Obama's 44 percent. Like in 2004 when Bush won Ohio over John Kerry by 2 percentage points, Ohio is giving all indications that they'll be going red yet again.

Obama has a lot invested in the state of Ohio, with 70 field offices compared to McCain's 40 field offices. A loss in Ohio most certainly means losing one's bid for the White House. Both candidates have made numerous trips to the state in hopes of courting voters, with McCain making a stop in Cleveland yet again later this evening.

With polls showing the race a dead heat in Ohio, Obama now has 70 field offices and McCain has 40.

Maybe the reason people

Maybe the reason people don't hold being worse off than four years ago against McCain is that Ted Strickland told them he would fix the state's economy and has done nothing, that Sherrod Brown ran on the economy and has only proposed job killing laws since he got to DC, and that the economy is very strong in other states. The voters are smart enough to realize that George Bush and John McCain haven't hurt Ohio and that Barack Obama can't help it, that the answer must be local, not national.

McCain

Ohio's seeming preference for McCain who lies, who is the real elitist in the race and who will sacrifice his principles in order to gain office can only be due to the inability of Ohioans to vote for a black candidate. Shame on you Ohio.

Don't believe any of them

I have to admit this name calling by the pols and their brainwashed masses is rather entertaining. Unfortunately, you all miss the point. Both candidates from the major parties are only concerned about self-empowerment. Where are the candidates that will truly fight for us? Where are the candidates that will promise to enact laws that keep lobbyists out of DC? Where are the candidates that will promise to enact laws that make it illegal to outspend the budget? Where are the candidates that will promise to amend and enforce term limits for legislators? And where are the canditates that will clean up what has become arguably the most corrupt government on this planet? Answer....not B. Hussein Obama or Mr. Potato Head. They are in it for themselves. To believe otherwise is foolishness and these two idiots are counting on you. Want government out of your lives....think third party. dano has spoken, that is all

Agreed. Mr Nader is my

Agreed. Mr Nader is my choice. I love his running mate too.

The Only Reason?

The percentage of people who dislike Obama for race is small. The polls reflect good Ohio instincts, not racism. Ohio is seeing what the rest of the country sees.

"The polls reflect good Ohio

"The polls reflect good Ohio instincts"

Good Ohio instincts? Lol. You are the people that put Bush in office for 2 terms. Shame on you. Why don't you wake up and smell the coffee Ohio?

It was the United States and

It was the United States and not Ohio that put Bush in office. Perhaps candidates should wake up and run campaigns that do more than pander to Ohio and Florida year in and year out.

Racism

Racism is alive and well in Ohio and yes it is the MAIN reason for McCain winning there.I lived in Ohio for 42 years and know first hand about the racism there.John Clouse, a 57 year old white man from Ohio say's black people are lazy and he does not trust a black man for President. This statement sums up EXACTLY how people feel in Ohio.My brother who has a son and daughter, both of them live with black people will be voting for McCain because he does not want one of them running the country.I have tried to talk sense into other people from Ohio but they are blind and do not want to see or listen to reason.Ohio has an unemployment rate of 6.2% and will go up under McCain. When you say that race is not an issue you must not have lived or visited Ohio.

End The Accusations Of

End The Accusations Of Racism: Vote Against Obama’s Unqualified White Side!

Really, 98% of blacks are voting for Obama.

Maybe Michelle Obama shouldn't have blocked Hillary for the VP position.

To bad. So sad.

You dummy Michelle didn't

You dummy Michelle didn't block Hillary. She started the race card and that wasn't acceptable with the Obama team that is why she wasn't pick for VP. The point is Ohio just don't have any since I live there the people here voted for Bush a second time in office knowing they were losing more and more jobs everyday, just don't make no since to me how people here don't mind being poor. On top of that gave McCain another union indorcement. SAD

best suited candidate

It is my hope that my fellow citizens will look beyond partisanship. As a Republican, I am dismayed by the Republican campaign shenanigans.

Prior to the primaries, many Republicans were supporting Barack Obama. I hope they will think back — and re-ignite their keen observations (often cited back then) that his moderation would bring a new willingness on the part of both Democrats and Republicans to work together.

I recently watched an interview with New York’s Mayor Bloomberg. He talked about the importance of judgment. He said he had not yet made a decision or an endorsement, noting that on the economy, both campaigns had consulted with him.

Good judgment seems to come naturally to Sen. Obama. He sincerely looks at all sides of an issue, consults with others, and thinks through the consequences of action.

Sen. McCain, on the other hand, lauds his reputation as a maverick. He “shoots from the hip” so to speak, meaning that he speaks before he thinks. Often he “thinks better” of his words and actions. The problem is that once a bridge is burned, it is costly in both time and resources to rebuild it.

Yes, it is important to be able to “think on one’s feet.” I’ve watched Obama do just that — for example during his Saddleback Church interview. McCain, on the other hand, reacts.

With a military metaphor, McCain reacts like a combat soldier, decisive. Following his training. On the other hand, Obama thinks like a commander, considering all fronts, before leading an attack, defense, and/or retreat.

Who is better suited to be commander-in-chief? In my mind, between Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama, Barack Obama is the clear choice.

I grew up in Ohio. Racism was taught -- not in school, but at the dinner table. Remember George Wallace? It's hard to combat racism in oneself. All I can say is, that if prejudiced Republicans switched to McCain with the choice of ultra conservative Palin, I sincerely hope that prejudiced Democrats will switch to Obama with the choice of Joe Biden.

You talk about judgement.

You talk about judgement. What about integrity? To me thats is more important.

So, as a Hillary Supporter, I am supporting Mccain.

Hillary supporters

Those who supported Hillary Clinton and now support McCain were never actually for Hillary and what she stands for. They are for their own sorry selves as disappointed women and who are angry. McCain certainly disappointed his first wife by dumping her for somebody younger and richer.
McCain has told dreadful sexist jokes and even offered up his present wife in a Miss Buffalo Chip contest. I trust you know what a buffalo chip is. It's the same as a cow pat. He is not a nice person. Yes, I'm sorry Hillary isn't in the race but I came off it. McCain doesn't really like women but he likes Hillary's 18 million supporters.

End of Accusations

Please check your facts.Hilary turned down the VP spot. Both of Obama's sides are more qualified than McCain and Palin. Why don't you do some real fact checking as I have done.Check the McCain ties, check his gun law records, check the money that his campaign manager gets from Fannie Mae(360,000 per year)for defending them against stricter regulating, check McCains record on the economy,on war. What a looser!!!
Obama for President!!

Which facts are those that

Which facts are those that Hillary was ever offered, much less turned down the VP spot? P.S. The word is "loser" not "looser"

Ohio indeed has good

Ohio indeed has good instincts. If you say they don't, you insult Ohio. If you say they do, you agree. Do you think it's a good plan to insult Ohio, as if you can shame people to vote for Obama by appealing to some fictional "white guilt?"

White guilt

There is nothing "fictional" about white guilt. Nothing fictional about racism in the United States, either. Look at the North/South divide.
President Johnson said, when he signed the Civil Rights Bill, that he had "lost the South." And he did. Look at the polls for States like Alabama and Georgia. Pro McCain. Look at the progressive Northeast. Pro Obama.

Oh brother

Major banks are crumbling and McCain has changed his messages by the hour. He has no grasp of the situation, his economic team is made up of the same people who demanded less and less regulations which partially led to this mess. Yet Ohio is sticking with him. Amazing.

McCain sticks his finger in the air and decides where he stands. He is not a leader. He is a follower. He has waffled so many times in the last 6 months it's impossible to keep track. Even by politician standards his ads are disgraceful. They all stretch the truth but McCain insults peoples intelligence.

Why are people falling for it?

Ohio votes

Someone said it right. Ohio gave Bush 2 terms. What else is there to say

McCain Puts Campaign Ahead of Country

Perhaps when Ohioans learn how McCain was willing to trade their economic security for some headlines, the polls will change. We now have eye-witness proof of the damage done to the bailout negotiations by McCain's self-serving intervention into the process: House Republican Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri in an interview on MSNBC said Republican presidential candidate John McCain's involvement in the discussion yesterday ``stopped a deal from finalizing.'' McCain, in his flailing attempts to regain momentum, is making a mockery of this election. He wanted to be the "Maverick" who came to DC to be the Leader in bailout negotiations. With Bush's help he planned to look like he brought everyone together. The attempt to inject himself into the process and gain headlines was a waste of valuable time. Now it has failed and he must go to Mississippi, tail between the legs, with nothing to show for his arrogance. McCain's new slogan- "Me First"
