Using Sarah Palin for Fundraising, Planned Parenthood Nets $760k in Donations

Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, currently John McCain's vice presidential running mate for the 2008 elections, is staunchly anti-abortion and is an unlikely contributor to such pro-choice organizations like Planned Parenthood. But thanks to a clever viral e-mail campaign that urged Palin detractors to make a donation in her name, Planned Parenthood have received a donation so far of $763,350 in Palin's name.
Nearly 30,000 people from all 50 U.S. states have donated in her name. Two-thirds of those donating were first time donors to Planned Parenthood.
The e-mail lists McCain's Arlington, Virginia campaign headquarters as Palin's address for donors to use, and asks people to contribute $10 to Planned Parenthood. The e-mail continues, stating: "And here's the good part. When you make a donation to Planned Parenthood in her name, they'll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor." That's an awful lot of trees too.
Palin, a mother of five children, including an unwed, pregnant teenager daughter and an infant with Down's Syndrome, is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

Suffragettes are often quoted as being in opposition to abortion, but I don't think most people today can fully appreciate the context of their opposition.
Can you imagine not being able to vote? Thanks to the suffragettes, women now have voices and choices!
Few of us know ALL that the suffragettes had to go through to win votes for women. But before they did, abortion was often the only option for pregnant women.
Discrimination in education and employment made it virtually impossible for a woman to provide for a child that was born out of wedlock, whether as a result of rape or consensual relations.
My own great-grandmother was raped and impregnated, but fought to keep her child. Against terrible odds, she managed to do so.
I have written a unique e-mail series that tells her story, and goes behind the scenes in the lives of eight of the world's most famous women to reveal the shocking and sometimes heartbreaking truth of what life was REALLY like for women before we won the vote.
