Music Review: Sol-Angel and The Hadley St. Dreams, Solange Knowles

Bayonce’s baby sister, Solange Knowles climbs out of the shadows and gives us her own style on Sol-Angel and The Hadley St. Dreams. “God Given Name” starts off this album with dreamy keyboards, chilled saxophones and slick high hats as Noles’ sultry vocals flutter across the page. “T.O.N.Y.” gets it into a funky groove as it’s one of those sappy love-lost songs that is arranged with slamming bass lines and Solange’s pretty lyrics backed by melodic singers.

“Would’ve Been The One” is put into a island flavor with reggae-influenced keys, flowing guitars and beautiful vocals as this is a nice pop track. “I Decided, Pt. 1” is quite soulful and old school in its scheme as she wails away with twinkling piano and high hats as it’s a good cut to bop to. “Valentine’s Day” returned to the balladeering as she brings it down immensely as it’s a sweetly directed track with some classic R&B form.

“Ode To Marvin” is a even-tempoed cut that’s classy and situated to ‘70s rhythms and doo-wop tones as it’s a good song to listen. “I Told You So” intertwined jazz, soul and contemporary beats with this laid-back alto that relaxes you right. “This Bird” ends as this release began; just perfectly seductive as it’s a icy cold cut with mellow modes and dark synths. Solange Knowles made a mark for herself with this album and definitely has staked her claim in her genre’s category.
