Cavaliers Season Tips Off With High Expectations

The Cleveland Cavavliers hit the hardwood for the first time tonight at the Quicken Loans Arena as the team hosts the Toronto Raptors for the teams first exhibition game. The Cavaliers, who nearly defeated the would be NBA Champion Boston Celtics, looked primed to make a run deep into the playoffs and perhaps bring the ctiy's first championship home since the Browns won the NFL title in 1964.

Cavaliers leader LeBron James hasn't shied away from expressing his desire to do just that. He told the assembled media last week:

"As a leader, I think I can lead these guys to the championship," he said. "We really believe that. It's not about making the playoffs for our team anymore. It's about winning a championship."

The Cavaliers got an enormous addition in the off-season by bringing in by landing standout point guard Mo Williams in a three player deal that sent Damon Jones to the Bucks and forward Joe Smith to Oklahoma City. The Cavaliers main problems in the past had been that LeBron James had been the only player to create on the floor. That problem no longer exists and his fellow James is thrilled with the addition.

"It brings another dimension to our team," James said. "It doesn't allow the defense to overload the side of the floor I'm on. If you do, Mo is able to create by himself 1-on-1 against anybody in this league and any defender in this league. I don't like to say it allows me to rest because I never rest."

The road to what could be an historic starts tonight against the Raptors and hopefully the ride doesn't come to an end until a parade down Euclid Avenue in June.
