Legendary Youngstown State Coach Dom Rosselli Has Passed Away at 93
Youngstown State University has lost a legend today. Dom Rosselli, who was the winningest head coach in both basketball and baseball at the school, has died at the age of 93. Rosselli coached the basketball team for 38 seasons and won 60% of the contests he coached in. On the baseball diamond he was the head man for 31 years. Not one that liked being idle, Rosselli also was an assistant coach at Youngstown State in football for over 20 years.
Former YSU football coach Jim Tressel told the Associated Press after the passing that Rosselli will be missed and had an impact on many lives during his career. He also leaves a legacy in the sporting world. The Youngstown native compiled an impressive 589-388 record as a head coach on the basketball court.
YSU President Dr. David Sweet said in a statement released by the school:
“Though he was small in stature, he was a giant in YSU athletics and a role model for us all — students, faculty and staff. His enthusiasm for the university was relentless. His contributions to the university were innumerable. And his memory will live forever. My most heartfelt sympathies go to his family. He will be missed.”
Rosselli also coached future Major League Baseball pitcher Dave Dravecky during his four years at the school.
Funeral arrangements are currently pending. He is survived by his wife, Connie, four children and several grandchildren.
