Columbus Day Isn't the Only Holiday This Week
While Columbus Day 2008 only has a few more hours left to honor the great explorer don't fret if you are still in the festive mood. There are two more days of observance this week. The first day comes on National Boss's Day which is Thursday, October 16th. National Boss's Day is when you are suppose to treat your supervisor with extreme kindness and maybe purchase them a small gift.
"We find that employees today want to show their appreciation for their superiors who not only take on the challenges of leading a successful team, but also work to mentor employees and assist in their professional growth," said Abby Gibbs, Boss's Day product manager at American Greetings. "To meet these needs, this year's line of Boss's Day cards from American Greetings offer warm sentiments of appreciation with just a little humor to reflect the more personal nature of boss-employee relationships today."
If you don't feel that your boss is deserving of a token of appreciation or you are just too cash strapped to afford a nicety for them this year you cannot forget your sweetheart. For the loved one in your life, the third Saturday in the month is upon us and those of us in the Great Lakes region knows that marks Sweetest Day.
Sweetest Day got its origins right here in Cleveland and has spread to many other parts of the country since its inception in early 1920's. Sweetest Day has spread to many other neighboring areas and, for those who have never celebrated the day, liken it to the "Valentines Day of the Fall" where you shower your partner with gifts and romance.
So, if you are lamenting the fact that you didn't have enough time to celebrate the life of Christopher Columbus today take solace in the fact that there are two more days this week you can be festive and help spread holiday cheer.
