Phillies Heading to World Series, Defeat LA Dodgers 5-1

The Philadelphia Phillies have defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 tonight in the National League Championship Series and will represent the National League in the World Series. The Phillies will face the winner of the ALCS, in which the Tampa Rays currently own a 3-1 lead against the Boston Red Sox.

The Phillies, managed by Cleveland Indians ex skipper Charlie Manuel, will be making their first World Series trip since they were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993.

Phillies' Leadoff hitter Jimmy Rollins started off the game by hitting a home run and would score again in the 3rd 2008 NL MVP candaiate Ryan Howard, who won the award in 2006, went 3-4 while driving in a run and scoring in the game as well. Picking up the win for Philly was Cole Hamels who went 7 strong innings allowing only 1 run on 5 hits. Brad Lidge came in to seal the deal in the 9th in a non save situation and sealed the pennant for Philadelphia.
