Philadelphia Phillies Win the World Series

The Philadelphia Phillies have defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in game 5 of the World Series and have won the 2008 championship in Major League Baseball. Game 5 had to be continued after rain interrupted play on Monday evening with the score tied 2-2 in the 6th inning. It didn't take long for the Phillies to get on the scoreboard when play resumed tonight as Geoff Jenkins led off the bottom of the 6th with a double and scored two batters later when Jayson Werth blooped a hit into center field. The Rays were able to tie the game in the 7th on a solo home run by Rocco Baldelli. The Phillies answered back in the Pat Burrell got a rally started by doubling to center field. Charlie Manuel elected to have Eric Bruntlett run for Burrell , and Bruntlett would score the winning run for the world champions when Pedro Feliz singled him in.

Brad Lidge came in the ninth to secure the victory for the Phillies as the 43,000 plus on hand celebrated the franchises first World Series title since 1980.
