DVD Review: Star-Studded Tropic Thunder Leads to Big Laughs

If you didn't catch the star studded and wildly funny 'Tropic Thunder' your wait is almost over as the hit of the summer hits DVD next Tuesday (November 18th) which is just in time for the Holiday shopping season. The movie that boasts Hollywood heavyweights such as Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Nick Nolte, Matthew McConaughey, and Tom Cruise (who steals the movie with outrageous appearance and attitude as a Hollywood exec) is truly a must see movie and the DVD release should be added to your collection if you love great comedy. Sometimes a movie that has such star power can get lost with too many egos, like the actual story of the movie shows, but not so with this film. You can tell that everyone involved in the filiming was having great fun spoofing Hollywood and all the egos and bloated excesses that A-listers enjoy.
The set that I received to review was the two disc version which included the Unrated Director's Cut and a wide variety of special features. If you couldn't control your laughter at the movie theater for its initial release, you will love the "prequel" of the film shot as a fake documentary which showed why the film almost didn't get made. Also included is an alternate ending and excellent commentary.
In short, if you liked the Frat-Pack film in the theater there are even more laughs in store for you with the DVD release. If you didn't see the movie this summer and are a fan of any of the fine actors in this film you are almost sure to be pleased as this was probably the best comedy to grace the screen in 2008.
Here is the trailer for the film when it the summer earlier this year:
