UCLA Defeats Miami of Ohio 64-59 in the 2K Sports Classic Basketball Tournament

With their 64-59 win over Miami (Ohio) Thursday night, UCLA advances to the next round of the 2K Sports Classic - the semifinals. It wasn't an easy win for the No. 4 Bruins, who survived a defensive struggle to pull of the win.

UCLA Coach Ben Howland said, "That was a very hard-fought win. We knew they'd be very patient. They really grind it out and make it tough. They also have senior, veteran guys."

The Bruins are now 2-0 and will be up against Michigan at New York's Madison Square Garden in the tournament's semi-finals next week. The other semi-final game will feature No. 8 Duke and Southern Illinois.

Darren Collison and Josh Shipp, both seniors, scored 16 points each to help UCLA get its 30th consecutive home victory over a non-conference opponent. Veterans of three consecutive Final Fours, the guys generated offense just one night after the team's impressive freshmen put on a show in their college debuts.

On the Miami side, Michael Bramos scored 22 points for the RedHawks, who went 1-1 in the tournament. They're not knocked out of it yet, and will face No. 5 Pittsburgh on Monday.

Miami coach Charlie Coles said of the game, "We played a good team on their home floor. Of course, I would have liked to have won this game, but if you lose, I want to make sure what carryover we have. I hope this is a good carryover and we take away what we did right and not the emotions of the game."
