Clevelanders Being Lured With Cavs Tickets and Gift Cards in Gun Buy-Back Program

While The Beatles may have sang 'Happiness is a warm gun' many Cleveland area residents will be saying 'Happiness is a turned in gun' as the two biggest cities in the region offer a number of goodies for getting guns off the streets. The Cleveland event offers people turning in working firearms $50 gas or food gift card, two tickets to a Cavaliers game and will be entered into a raffle to win up to $1,000. The event takes place in Cleveland on Saturday (November 25) at the Convention center and will run from 7:30am-12:00pm.

The city of Akron is offering a similar program on two days this week on Friday and Saturday (Nov-24-25) from 10am-6pm at the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Residents of the rubber city will obtain $100 grocery card from Acme in exchange of for a firearm.

The city of Cleveland's Chief of Police Michael McGrath praised the program in a news release that stated:

“This effort will help us to avert a tragedy in the City of Cleveland. I can’t tell you who and I can’t tell you when, but someone’s life will be saved because of the event.”

Last year, the city of Cleveland pulled 421 guns off the street in a similar event held in November.
