New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was accidentally shot in the leg at a night club. According to both Fox Sports and ESPN.com, the wound is not life threatening, but Buress did spend the night in the hospital.

It has not been revealed what nightclub the shooting took place at.

Giants' team spokesman Pat Halon said "I don't have anything for you at this stage," as the team left for a flight to Washington for a Sunday game against the Redskins.

NFL spokesman Joe Browne said, "We are gathering information, just like everyone else."

Two weeks ago Burress,31, injured his hamstring in a game against the Baltimore Ravens. The team had said on Friday, prior to the shooting, that he would not play this Sunday.

Earlier this year, Burress was suspended for a game against Seattle on Oct. 5 and fined $117,500 for skipping a team meeting and failing to notify the team. He said it was a family emergency.
