Teen Pregnancy is on the Rise Again in the US
According to a federal report released Wednesday, teen pregnancy is on the rise in more than half of the states in the U.S. The analysis also found that Mississippi has also displaced Texas as the state with the highest teen pregnancy rate.
This latest report shows significant increases in the teen birthrate for 2006 in 26 states. 2006 is the most recent year for which data is available.
Mississippi's teen birthrate in 2006 was 60% higher than the national average. Texas and New Mexico trailed closely behind with 50% higher rates of pregnancy.
Some experts are blaming the higher teen pregnancy rates on increased federal funding for abstinence-only education. The results revealed today mark the first signficant spike in teen pregnancy rates in over 15 years.

FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY,ITS NOT THE "abstinence-only education" MOSTLY IT IS THE YOUNG MAN THAT BE WHISPERING TO THESE YOUNG FEMALES EARS.SAYING HOW MUCH THEY LOVE THEM AND HOW MUCH THEY ARE GOING TO BE HERE FOR THEM.THEY GOING TO MARRY HER,AND SHE IS THE MAIN CHICK.ALL BULL CRAP.STOP FINDING THINGS TO BALM THESE YOUNG PREGANCIES ON.YOU GOT TO GO TO THE MAIN SOURCE.WHEN THESE YOUNG FEMALES LET THESE YOUNG MAN GET IN THEIR HEADS THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS,NOT KNOWING THESE YOUNG MAN JUST WANT SOMETHING FOR THEM.NOT ALL LITTLE BOYS,JUS MOST OF THEM.MAYBE YOU SHOULD START BLAMING THE PARENTS FOR NOT TELLING THEIR CHILDREN THEY DONT NEED TO BE HAVING SEX AT A YOUNG AGE, AND DONT GET ME WRONG MOST PARENTS DO,BUT START KNOWING WHERE YOUR CHILD IS AT AND WHO THEY HANGS AROUND.STOP JUST GOING OFF OF WHAT THEY SAY,CALL THEM STAY INCOTTACT WITH OTHER PARENT.THESE YOUNG LADIES ARE HAVING BABIES BECAUSE SOME FEEL LOST,LONELY, AND NO LOVE.IT ONLY TAKES ONE TIME TO GET PREGANT.SO DONT BE STUPID.THATS WHY THEY MAKE CONDOMS,BIRTH CONROL PILLS AND THEY EVEN HAVE SHOTS FOR THAT.PLEASE BE CAREFUL,NO SEX IS THE BEST SEX
enlish, do you speak it?
Yes.
i could ask you the same thing.
"enlish?" its spelled "english", in case you didn't know.
seriously.
the other guy/girl whatever does have a point.
its not the education thats the issue. its the emotional stuff guys say. trust me. im a girl. and a teenager. and best friend to a girl who got pregnant. so i know. youre a guy, right? exactly.
obviously you dont feel like checking the pregnancy statistics among abstinence-only states, and it also seems like you hate men, so i would assume that you were a dumbass. Teens have sex, fact of life and your view is why the teen pregnancy rate increased to where it is now and its not just the little boys, girls are just as human and are in no way innocent little angels, dumbass
I believe you are mostly right... but all the things you are saying are not being taught in abstinence only programs. It needs to be explained by that it is not a good choice at a young age, but if you choose to do it at very lease take preventative measures to protect yourself. This should be taught at home and wherever else the oppurtunity presents itself. Clearly these young women can't hear it enough.. Abstinence only is an irresponsible message if sent alone, young women want to know more and what they are not taught they will try to find out on their own.
i agree wit La'Nesha King girls are getting pregnant at young age bcuz of some guys bcuz they tell them that they love them &nd that their always gonna love them no matter what so we fall in love and next thing that happens the guy is gone . In some cases some guys actually stay with their gfz but most of them just go away so it's not just girls fault &nd i dont think that teen pregnancy is like right but i dont think that is that bad either iht dont matter how old you are so it's not that bad &nd i'll support all teen that getz pregnant at young age .
i agree ... girls are easily influenced. i am one. no, im not pregnant. and no, im not sexually active. i hav learned that the reason for pregnant teens is no love. girls and boys alike. troubled homes. stress. its our way of acting out. making our loved ones notice that we are doing what we want bkuz we dont think they care. i understand there is no perfect life. but if at least us and family both try. we should have a better outcome. even tho my family don't try at least i do. and im okay bkuz of it.
i am 18 i have a steady job and a partner who loves me and our unborn child i go to college and have an apartment and a car. i am tired of people telling me to be ashamed of the child i am carrying because i am still a "teen" i have insurance and go to the OB regularly. it is awful for girls still in high school and sometimes middle to have to go through pregnancy and birth at a young age. BUT it is not the baby's fault and a baby dose not ruin your life, it makes you work harder and grow up and tough it out . nothing will be easy now like before but every child is a gift from god no matter how young the mother
Alright, lets not put this on the guys like suddenly they're the evil of the earth and "how dare they corrupt our pure young women". Fail. Its a friggin' two way street. Besides, how do you expect teenagers to control themselves when the adults barely do? And its not about telling kids not to do it. They do whatever they want anyway. The best bet is to teach abstinence ALONG WITH contraception education. That way if/when abstinence fails they at least know that they have the option of birth control.
And I am getting so tired of people blaming the guys. I mean were female not completely stupid. Not to say guys don't lie, and I know they can be persuasive but maybe if you raise your girls to have confidence in themselves and good perception they would develop the common sense not to open their legs to everyone who tells them they're pretty and special. Then we might have less of a problem.
