Joaquin Phoenix Makes Musical Debut in Vegas as a Rapper
Joaquin Phoenix, 34, is clearly having some kind of early mid-life crisis. Just three months ago he announced that he was quitting the acting business, and that his most recent movie, Two Lovers, was his last. Phoenix's brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, told reporters that he would be going into music. In addition to his transition from acting to music, Phoenix has also changed his looked. He's put on some weight and hasn't shaved in months, looking a far cry from the smoothly-shaven star nominated for an Oscar for his performance with Reese Witherspoon in the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line.
On Saturday, Phoenix made his transition to the music world official. Instead of having formed a band, as most of us might have guessed, he decided to embark upon a career in rap. Debuting at the Las Vegas nightclub LAVO, Phoenix's performance is said to have "mainly consisted of shuffling back and forth and bouncing stiffly with the beat", but we'll let you decide for yourself what you think of his performance. Check out the series of videos below. At the end of the second video, Phoenix trips and falls.
Casey Affleck was on hand for the entire thing, filming it for a documentary about Phoenix's attempt to make it as a musician. This entire bizarre scenario has left many wondering if: 1- Phoenix has gone insane, or 2- If this is all one big joke.
Phoenix insists that this is not a joke:
“This is who I am. This is my story,” he told People magazine before the performance. "Are there people out there who think I’m a joke? I’m sure there will be … I can’t worry about that.”
In other related news, Phoenix's first album is rumored to be produced by Sean Combs (aka Puff Daddy/P Diddy).

Nope no drugs involved..
Yeah ,Yeah, Yeah ..Yeah.... If you believe...'they put a man on the moon' - then Andy Kaufman LIVES AGAIN!
I'm looking really forward to the wrestling events myself,...... and those Elvis moves.
And of course REM's incredible tribute song....
"Andy did you hear about this one?"
Marty Chambers
I hope it is drugs
He WAS a great actor! Maybe its not to late to come back to acting
I hope there were drugs involved. Seriously debilitating drugs. The kind that induce the delusions of grandeur that would cause an otherwise successful perosn to grow a beard and decide to launch an impromptu hip-hop career.
So succesful people can't grow a beard by what you are saying? Stereotyping should be a crime.
I really liked him as an actor. He cant even put down his smokes to perform what does that tell ya. I dont think that hes comfortable either with his performance. What I would like to know is if Summer likes her brother sooooooooooo much why does she let her hubby affleck showcase him around like some dork or monkey on a lease or whatever he is suppose to be. Dude somebody slap him so hard that he wakes up. Sean are ya watching this you get on T.V. and worry about the groups you labled and give them a hard time but you are letting this go on give me a break. This has to be a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!
good point, if his sister and the rest of his family cared about him they would intervene, instead of letting him carry on like this. I don't get it, isn't there anyone close to him who feels the need to help him before it's too late?
yea i wouldnt want him to end up like his brother... but i kinda hope its drugs...
If I had the upbringing that he and his late brother had, I'd probably be at least as nuts
I feel sorry for the guy..... you can't help but wonder if he's sane.
Question I have is , why not do rap BEFORE you decide to give up acting?
By his apperance and performance, Phoenix has a lot of fine tuning to do....
and a new look....the one he has is pretty bad...
Good luck
This guy is a dork!!!!! WTF he isn't happy being a decent actor? He would rather be a horrible rapper???? I don't get this one at all
I can see that he would rather be broke... at least its a sign of being "humble!" BAH HAHAHA
free yourself man, let it all hang out
he sucks as an actor too glad hes washed up
he need help now''''''''''''''''' today.
One word...PEYOTE...lots of PEYOTE
I honestly cannot stand him. I couldn't help but laugh when he was on Letterman. If it's a joke then it's a stupid joke. I guess he really wanted some attention. If it is for real I feel bad for him even if I can't stand him. He really is not a good actor. Watching him in movies makes my skin crawl. He is just one of those people that get under my skin, but if he is nuts that's too bad. If it's a joke, all the more reason I will dislike him. He's an idiot...
My drugs are consuming him! His soul will be mine soon, HA HA HA hahahahaha!
