Cleveland Clinic Plans to Expand & Renovate Lakewood Hospital

On Friday the Cleveland Clinic announced a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation plan for Lakewood Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio. The plan is being calle dthe "Vision for Tomorrow", and is a multi-year project.

Under the plan, the 400-bed hospital will transform to offer only private patient rooms, and will expand outpatient care. In addition, Lakewood Hospital will forge more partnerships with community organizations on wellness programs, and will strengthen management of chronic diseases such as diabetes. They will also better align Clinic services and community doctors with the hospital.

The Cleveland Clinic also plans to create centers of excellence in geriatrics, neurological services, diabetes/endocrine, and orthopedics at Lakewood Hospital.

The plan will unfold over the next few years, but there are already some projects slated for 2009, which include: beginning the transition to private rooms, enhancing the endovascular suite, improving the parking garage, installing new heating and cooling systems, and creating an eight-bed unit for acute care of the elderly.

Lakewood Hospital is a Cleveland Clinic hospital, and was founded in 1907.
