Michael Phelps in Shocking Drug Scandal After Being Pictured Taking Hit from a Bong
Normally when you talk about Olympic athletes using drugs it is steroids or some type of supplement that can increase their performance in their sport. Michael Phelps, who dazzles the sports world last year, isn't exactly Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens when it comes to his drug of choice. The record breaking gold medalist, instead, has been snapped on camera taken a hit of a marijuana bong that was obtained by UK scandal sheet News of the World.
The picture was taken at a University of South Carolina party and, if it is proven that there that was in fact cannabis in the bong, Phelps would likely get sanctioned from the Olympic committee.
In the past few months, Phelps has been partying hard and having some insiders in the sport wondering if he can regain his world class athletic mantle with his lifestyle. In the the News of the World Report, they wrote:
One party-goer who witnessed the star’s behaviour told the News of the World: “He was out of control from the moment he got there.
“If he continues to party like that I’d be amazed if he ever won any more medals again.”
In 2004 after his Olympic glory in Greece, Phelps was popped for a DUI and sentenced to 18 months probation. After dominating this Olympic games, that scandal blew over and the swimming star was able to earn a number of endorsements. With this new allegation, the only thing that Phelps may now be able to advertise is an upcoming c film.
This isn't the first time that Phelps has made headlines for the wrong reasons.

The truth of the matter that pot should be legal. Its not like Phelps is helping his atheltic career by smoking some dope. This should hardly even be a story but is making headlines everywhere. What a joke!

Marijuana is not addictive. Maybe if you'd try it instead of listening to the bullshit that's pumped into your head as a child you would know that. But I think it did increase his performance. Think about it, how else would you get hungry enough to intake 12000 callories a day and be his size.

Everyone's been waiting to find SOMETHING wrong with Phelps. Well, they've found it. They're just SO jealous of him, they want to be able to stop him from winning any more medals.

Yep, its official. Cannabis has been proven to lower friction between ones skin and water. Not to mention that it improves your lung capacity. I think they should take away all his gold medals and lock him up.
You all say that smoking weed isn't bad...well obviously it is. It is after all ILLEGAL and it's that way for a reason. Lord help our children of the future. It seems like every time they find a role model that role model has to go and screw things up. I mean come on. Your an AMERICAN GOLD MEDALIST and young kids look up to you. It is not illegal for safety reason. The reason it became illegal was because of pressure from the tobacco industry, also anti immigration hopped on board this band wagon. Every ethnic group has its drug of preference and for Mexican Americans it was Marijuana, easy way to keep them out is make it illegal. Also the war on drugs was for the right reason... right?? wrong. the reason that the war on drugs was started is because Mrs. Regan made a fool of herself on the world stage and needed something to improve her public image. so to boost her image she trashed the images of so many across america. You want to know the real drug killer in america look at something you have probably have every week. Based on the combined 2004 to 2006 National Surveys on Drug Use and Health data from current drivers aged 18 or older, 15.1% had driven under the influence of alcohol during the past year and 4.7% had driven under the influence of illicit drugs. Compare those rates to traffic accidents you will see how ILLEGAL it should be.

Michael is a young person that needs help with his behaviors and emotional state. We all feel proud for what he did in the olympics, he brough glory to our great nation in the mist of a political/economical stressful moment.
He needs help, he needs therapy and get closer to Christ. If he receive that his life will change and this scandal will be seen as it is, a mistake.

Who can you blame it on easier? The press for airing it so much that yea probably 90% of all kids will hear about by just walking by a television. Or will you blame him for making his own choices? He's a grown up I think.. Let's not be so judgmental of the guy! It's not up to you if he wins gold medal and it's not up to you if he drinks a 6-pack a day or smokes 3 joints a day. Keep you nose out of it, it's no one's place to pass judgment and tell him what he can or can't do. Unless you know him personally, you shouldn't even expect an apology, or care.
The hypocracy of Americans about marijuana is astounding. In case everyone has forgotten, both of our most recent US presidents have admitted to smoking Marijuana, and unless I'm mistaken the Presdient should be held to a higher standard than a 23 year old swimmer. Ironically, no one seems to care about the presidents doing it- they brush it off as insignificant youthful indiscretion- yet Michael Phelps is a horrible role model and should have his life ruined? This is so silly! There are more important things to obsess over than smoking marijuana!
