Anne Hathaway in Talks to Play Her Dream Role as Judy Garland

According to Hollywood insiders, actress Anne Hathaway is currently in talks to play her big screen idol, Judy Garland, in an upcoming film based on Gerald Clarke's Biography - "Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland." The 26-year-old starlet is so desperate to appear in the film and snag the lead role that she may need to sacrifice other projects, including a leading role in a comedy called "The Fiance."

Film and stage rights to the Judy Garland story have been optioned by The Weinstein Company. If Hathaway is successful in her pursuit of the role, one of the big attractions of the film will be her singing - not recordings of Garland - and Anne is determined to do it justice.

An insider says, "Anne dearly wants to do a musical and this could be her chance. If she nails the part, she will be a shoo-in for some big awards."

Although Anne Hathaway can sing, however, being able to sing like Judy would be difficult for anyone. I would hate for anyone to try to be Judy in her heydey.
However, after seeing Hilary Swank in PS I Love You. I was struck by how much she physically looks like Judy Garland in her MGM years. She definitely could play the emotional scenes probably better than Anne, although. she would probably need to lip synch to the music. However, Hollywood never chooses according to ability or looks but who they think will bring in the big bucks- which may be Anne. Anyway whoever does the part will have a difficult time to please everyone and I hope the movie actually portrays the "real" Judy- Gerald Frank's book was good but it leaned too much to the tragic Judy and not the dynamic Judy. Judy was an extremely complex person, I always loved her genius but her emotional frailty and naivete to trust unconditionally the men in her life and be devasted by them but never gained insight on her own actions will be very difficult to play on screen. It will be interesting and I look forward to seeing the movie.

Hilary Swank looks just like Judy Garland! She should play her!
