Music Review: It's America, Rodney Atkins

It’s been nearly three years since Rodney Atkins gave us If You’re Going Through Hell and now he returns with another hit maker on It’s America. This disc starts with a thunderously charismatic song called “Tell A Country Boy” as it’s in-your-face and honest with the bold lyrics and melodic tones getting you to crank it up loud in your car on a sunny day. Up next is “Chasin’ Girls” which is another fun-loving ditty that is full of vibrato and assertive licks from the guitars and fiddle telling us the truth about the crazy carefree nature of looking for a good time.
“Best Things” is yet another beautiful track on here that mirrors Atkins’ tough rugged exterior with his soft interior as it’s retrospective and smooth in its temperament and flows very nicely. “Friends With Tractors” brings it back to that great up tempo boot-stomping kind of beat that he’s been known to deliver as this could be a future arena anthem. Next was this album’s title cut as it gives us this scintillating story about American life from all corners of our nation as “It’s America’s” style is inspiring and uplifting all at once while still getting your fist lifted high in the air and your voices singing wildly to the chorus. “Rockin’ Of The Cradle” however is mid-tempo and chills the mood deeply hitting you hard in the chest with its material and harmonious structure.
“When It’S My Time” and “The River Just Knows” rounds out this amazing release as Rodney pulls out his best work to date. Everything on this album was perfectly produced and masterfully crafted giving us a truly original country music experience. Rodney Atkins definitely has carried the torch for contemporary country music with It’s America and we expect more in the future from him.
