Carlos Santana Wants Obama to Legalize Pot

President Barack Obama brushed off a question about whether the legalization of marijuana would help pull the nation of a recession during his March 26 online town hall. But guitar great Carlos Santana says he wishes that the President would seriously consider it.

In an interview this week, Santana said:

"Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education. You will see a transformation in America."

He added that legalizing pot is "really way overdue, like the prohibition with the alcohol and stuff like that."

"I really believe that as soon as we legalize and decriminalize marijuana we can actually afford a really good governor who won't keep taking money away from education and from teachers and send him back to Hollywood where he can do 'D' movies and we can get an 'A' governor," continued Santana, referring to former movie star and current California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Santana made the comments while promoting his upcoming residency in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, where his show will debut May 27 and run through 2010.

dude hell yeah thats awesome it totally makes sense..........oh sh!!!t this isnt aol

He's right they say California would generate over 1 Billion Dollars a year from just Marijuana alone. If it was made legal. I mean come on Pot is illegal but Cigarettes are legal.

amen to that!

here's the thing that kills me: it's a PLANT.

it grows naturally on this earth. you don't need to do anything to it, you don't need to add chemicals, you don't need to process anything - you pick it, it dries, and viola! weed. and you're telling me it's not yet legal for consenting adults - in the land of the free??

grow it, tax it, and make it's abuses punishable by similar laws as those in effect for alcohol. instantly, you've got billions in profit for the government, less money - both state and federal - being spent on arresting and prosecuting people whose only offense was possession. take that out of the mix, and you've instantly freed up at least $7,000,000,000 (yup, that's 7 billion) of taxpayer's money. throw in how much the government can make in taxes alone? we're talking a ballpark of $10 billion and up per year.

i could go on forever ... head overe here for more info on the guys fighting the fight:
