Ohio Could Lose Up to Two Congressional Seats After 2010 Census
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland warns that the state is in "great danger" of losing up to two congressional seats after the completion of the 2010 census. He said Thursday that he is certain Ohio will lose one member in the U.S. House of Representatives, and that chances are good that the state could lose two.
Ohio was close to losing a representative after the 2000 Census. Since then, the state has seen its population decline further and residents relocate to warmer climates with stronger economies.
On Thursday Strickland signed an executive order which established the Ohio Complete Count Committee, which is charged with raising awareness of the upcoming Census. The gov. emphasized that it is vital that every resident is counted so that Ohio does not miss out on federal aid or lose more than one representative in Congress.
