The World's First Flourescent Dog Unveiled

Meet Ruby Puppy, one of four cloned pups that glow because they have genetic information from sea anemones, a breakthrough that scientists are hoping will aid in the study of human diseases. According to New Scientist Magazine, the dogs produce a protein that glows under ultraviolet light.
The first transgenic dog - called this because it has genes transferred from another speciies - was created by cloning and inserting cells expressing a red flourescent gene which is produced by sea anemones. They hope that it will eventually lead to transgenic dog models of human diseases.
One of the researchers involved with this project, CheMyong Ko of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, said:
"The next step for us is to generate a true disease model."
The team was lead by Byeong-Chun Lee of Seoul National University in South Korea. He was also a part of the 2005 scientific effort with stem cell researcher Woo Suk Hwang that created the first cloned dog.

stop cloning puppies
it is so cute, I want one. Think of all the candles I can save when the electricity goes out!
i think people should stop cloning puppies its really wrong and i think our government is very messed up with this kind of thing
This has nothing to do with our government. This is something in South Korea.
Why are we wasting money doing this crap when we're trillions of dollars in dept. God, this is so stupid.
stop cloning them but do make them glow still i think thats cool p.s. i want a none cloned glowing puppy
I agree. The Frankensteins of the world should stop cloning animals, especially "man's vest friend".
is it hurting anyone to clone puppies..if anything its helping aid in the study of disease to help benefit humans
I think it's pretty obvious what we're doing to these dogs is not harming them in any way. At least nothing superficial. I don't see anything wrong with this, if anything, it's implicative of how much genetics is progressing. A scary and awesome thought. When are the first smart dogs gonna appear...?
Clone the puppies! It's not hurting them! And plus I have a black labradour that lies down on my stairs sometimes and when it's dark I sometime accidentally step on him (But I manage to step away fast enough to not hurt him) so if he glowed in the dark he would not be in danger as much!
stop the outrageous thinking that this is okay! its mutany! I dont care if I spelled that wrong, its disgusting, SO JUST STOP IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they don't glow in the dark!
the "glowing" only shows up under ultraviolet light
so if the power goes out your dog isn't going to help because it has to be sitting under ultraviolet light...which takes electricity
Dont you love how 90% of the comments don't even respond to the article... they read the head lines and formulate an opinion with out even reading...
1. This has nothing to do with our government
2. This isnt harming any of our animals... we are procreating as well as finding ways to keep people alive....
3. The dogs dont "glow in the dark" READ THE ARTICLE
Not entirely true, we cannot know how many puppies died during the course of getting the experiment to this level.
HEY COULD WE CLONE FLOURESCENT RATS SO I CAN SEE THEM IN MY HOUSE A NIGHT. I THINK IT WOULD BE COOL!!
Now if they could only clone a dog that won't go on my lawn or dig in my garden! hahaha http://www.scholarshiphunter.com/keepdogsofflawn.html
I think I need to take one of these the next time I go to LaserQuest! I mean, cloning is cool, but I think that the fact they combined a dog with a sea anenome is awesome!
