Mel Gibson Attends "X-Men" Premiere with His Girlfriend

Mel Gibson attended the debut of the latest X-Men movie Tuesday evening, bringing along with him Russian composer Oksana Grigorieva and effectively confirming that the two are sleeping together. In court papers Gibson says that he and his wife have been separated for more than two and a half years, but their split and Gibson's relationship with a new woman have been quietly kept under wraps. That was, until, Gibson's wife filed for divorce earlier this month.

Grigorieva is signed to Gibson's Icon Records, and is also separated from her ex, Timothy Dalton. Property records have tied Gibson and Grigorieva together, and blurry photographs of them together in Costa Rica have been in the press for months.

So while their relationship wasn't exactly secret, it also wasn't very well known. Gibson has apparently kept the split with his wife under wraps for years. His date of the breakup dates back to his infamous anti-semetic tirade against Los Angeles sheriff's deputies. Had their split been exposed at the time, it could have dealt his image an even more crushing blow.

Gibson's wife, however, has taken the matter public finally by filing official court papers. By taking his relationship with Grigorieva public, it's simply a way for him to show that he has nothing to hide.
