Parma Schools to Layoff 50, Close 2 Schools

The Parma City School District's $13.6 million levy failed last week, making it the third straight levy struck down by area voters. On Monday, the school board approved the layoff of 50 teachers.

School Board president Cyndee Bratz called the layoffs "devastating", and noted that plans to close two schools are also in the works.

Parma's levy campaign was overshadowed by an FBI corruption probe of deals that had been approved by one of the school board members that resigned in March.

Within Cuyahoga County, four other school levies past this Spring.

Do they not get it? No one

Do they not get it? No one has money to spend on levies that, if they budgeted properly, reduced salaries of over paid board members, would be unnecessary. We are not stupid. Don't use pictures of kids, and send them door to door to try to make people feel guilty. That backfired big time. Wake up Parma. You are being held accountable.

Closing two schools.

The schools closing should be clarified. That was going to happen no matter what the outcome of the levy vote. It was announced and approved by the School Board long before the levy vote.

And they were very clear last fall when they started talking about it. Declining enrollment dictated they do it, not any levy vote.

I get it

I get the fact that they cut all the art classes and most music classes.

Hmmm, Levy failed again!

Hmmm,
Levy failed again! Let's see why! Corruption, lies and wasted spending of tax payers money. Citizens living paycheck to paycheck while the chief of police made over a million dollars in overtime. Streets filled with potholes ( West Ridgewood ).
Now they want voters to pass Gambling so ( more ) corruption can spread.
The voters are not going to take it anymore and i'm proud of them. No levy will pass for a while. Enron, Madoff, Government bailout of tax payers money which went soley to the rich. Last but not least (Health Insurance)! What the hell!
Since when does our government care about our health when they still allow cigarettes? Is it because they get a certain percentage of money from each pack sold? The answer is yes. What insurance is not a scam? Come on now.
Enough is enough.
